That’s pretty much all of what I want in a future stadium.  On a side note, it looks like teams that are traditionally northern/cold weather teams might be rethinking the usefulness of outdoor stadiums. Apparently the Browns owner wants a new stadium that will be a retractable roof/dome stadium, and the Bears also want to either renovate Soldier Field to a retractable roof/dome (similar to SoFI, or build a new stadium in the burbs that’s a retractable roof/dome.

 

My guess is that in 10 years, only a handful of teams will be playing outdoors in the cold & snow.  It’s becoming increasingly evident that owners are starting to realize the benefit of having a year-round stadium with activities and events other than just football games in the Fall.

LOL, not that ugly, but I would love a stadium like SoFi, Allegiant or US Bank.  A premier destination for fans and entertainers.

Can't believe those renderings of the moat palace were released in 2016 and here we are, still at FedEx and probably still will be significantly past the 2027 agreement with that company.

 

I'd like the new stadium to be 65k tops, be near public transport, and also have restaurants and bars nearby. I'd prefer open air, but realize that likely isn't going to happen.

I want a slightly smaller stadium at the old site in town, which judging by his moves with the sixers, Harris probably does too.

Harris did say in an interview that he hopes to fund a lot of this himself. We shall see if that is possible.

The taxpayers and personal seat license holders are funding the majority of the stadium.  Harris will try to pay very little of it himself. He will be pay some but his intention to get tazpayers to fund most of it.  Just like every other sports team owner for the most part.

Agreed. 65k should be the max capacity. Maybe less. Built on the existing site of the old RFK, so gameday blimp shots will look straight down Capital St. to the Washington Monument. Also, the roof needs to be constructed to magnify the volume of the crowd back onto the field for the full 12th-man effect for maximum homefield advantage. How long has it been since we had that? I would say the last time I felt the full 12th-man presence was playing Dallass at home in December 2005. God, FedEx was loud that night!

I was there that night as well.  One of the finest moments in that stadium and there have been few.  28-0 at the half.  I really felt that 2005 team was a serious contender once they got hot.  Then 2006 was such a let down.

I agree with those that suggest keeping the capacity at no more than 65k.  With the proper construction, 65k can be LOUD, and the seats can all be decent.  I'd love for their new home to be as loud as the Seahawks stadium.  Steep seats, close to the field, and holding the noise in.

 

Grass is key.  HAVE to have a grass field.  They probably can't find enough real estate to do what the Cardinals and Raiders do (roll the field outside for sunshine and rain), so they'll probably need a retractable roof.

 

And it HAS to be near a Metro Station.  Not a mile and a half hike like FedEx Field, but one where you pop up out of the station with only a 2-3 minute walk in front of you.  Nationals Park is really nice in that regard, hopefully the Commanders can do the same thing.

That's one area where I think Virginia might have an edge. They recently expanded the Silver Line out to Ashburn and you have lots of open space there. 

 

I live in Va but would still prefer it to be in DC, but it is a legitimate option if space is an issue in the DC area.

I gave up on open air, and Captiol Hill hasn't changed enough to expect bunch of walking distance bars and restaurants to RFK site either.

No way is it going to be open air.  Even cold weather teams like the Bears & Browns are now realizing the benefits of having a dome/retractable roof stadium now.  Open air stadiums severely limit the number of year round events that you can host, which will bring in significant revenue to restaurants, shops and businesses around the stadium.  Imagine having the ability to host SB's, Final Fours, WrestleMania's, and major concerts year round with a roof over the stadium.  You lose all that potential revenue if you build an open air stadium, with only 8-9 NFL games per year, and maybe a summer concert or two.  It's not economically feasible to build open air stadiums anymore, unless your climate can support year-round events, like LA, Phoenix, Las Vegas, etc,

 

Roofed stadiums also benefits NFL players too.  Think of the free agents we've lost, due to our facilities being bottom tier, along with our dilapidated stadium.  Players love playing at SoFi, Allegiant, and US Bank stadiums, because the facilities are world class, and its climate controlled.  Even MetLife stadium is hated by Jets & Giants fans, and that building isn't even 15 years old.  Jets & Giants fans are also jealous of the newer stadiums, and they get envious when they realize that they play in a dump surrounded by a swamp.

Something to keep in mind: this whole Ted Mess is not good for the commanders going back to DC.  
 

If VA throws Ted out and DC gives him money to stay, that’s less money for the RFK site.  
 

More and more it looks like MD is going to make the best deal.

I disagree because of how bad so many people involved with DC government want the Commanders in the RFK site and only care about Ted when he tries stupid stunts like that.

 

It's a bad look them going to VA, but I'm sure DC knew before anyone what the proposal was and the money from VA hadn't even been voted on yet for approval.

 

Harris seems serious about moving back, ball will be in his court gow much he wants to spend to make that real.  The more he does, the better, Maryland knows they on deck only if RFK falls through versus a serious threat.

I still like the idea of sticking it in the quarry in Herndon off 28. Opens up some really interesting stadium concepts like leaving one side of it a solid stone wall. Imagine how unique and loud that would be.  (I'm just making this up btw. no idea how deep the thing is or what the walls would look like)
