NoCalMike
Very surprised Lions didn't challenge that spot. Seemed like the ideal time to do it as it means you for sure preserve that lead going into halftime.

It's a 1-gap defense. There are 6 gaps on a standard line without tight ends/wings,etc. The DL fills 4 of them in theory. Our backers aren't filling the other two. And, our defensive linemen take turns not filling gaps as well. So the result is gaping holes.
ExoDus84
Watching this commercial where the FedEx guy runs an obstacle course while holding packages. He looks good. Wonder if he can play LB?
Malapropismic Depository
Did you guys see the highlight on that punt return against the Packers ? Near the end of the run, the Punter had the perfect angle on him, and the returner steps toward him, and the Punter backs away and lets him run in LOL
Koolblue13
Our D line is amazing. That is clearly not an issue. Watch the Detroit D who have invested in Ragland and Collins. Not world beaters, but absolutely starting LBers
Voice_of_Reason
I get that Alex Smith is a checkdown QB. But he completes such a high percentage, it can be very effective.

The main thing that makes the short passing game work is throwing to guys who are in motion/running in stride. That is basically 90% of the 49ers passing game with Jimmy G at QB and it works because no one is breaking stride to catch the pass. Washington's short passing game it is throwing to guys who are always sitting down in the flat, so they catch it and are usually met with immediate contact or continually are doing that "run backwards to get around a defender and lose yards" move. That isn't on Alex Smith, but on the scheme/play designs themselves.

NickyJ
We have a way of winning this game: Let Alex be Alex. Build it around checkdowns, give the occasional deep throw to keep them honest. Nor more gadget plays. We just can't do it.
