  1. 1. Will you attend a game and support the team while Dan Snyder is the owner of the team, regardless of success?

    • Yes
    • No
    • I would start attending games if Dan was no longer the owner of the team.

Maryland man's obituary calls for Dan Snyder to sell the Commanders

To honor him, his children decided to include his thoughts on his beloved Washington Commanders in his obit.

"He was a lifelong fan of all things related to D.C. sports, with the exception of Daniel Snyder, who he often referred to by names and in terms which cannot be printed here. Along with the health and happiness of his family and friends, he wished for nothing more than for Snyder to sell the Washington Commanders," it reads.

Darr's son, James, says Snyder's ownership was regularly a conversation topic, but it was the family's choice to include it in the obituary.

"He always wanted some way to tell him, always wanted some way to let him know how badly he didn't like him and how it wasn't going to work out," James said. "If we could do something that let my great-great-grandchildren know something about him in a couple hundred years, I think this is what he'd want them to know."

According to someone familiar with the process, Snyder already has at least four calls from groups interested in buying the team. Snyder and his bankers are exploring all options and a transaction could be for the entire NFL team or a minority stake.

Neither the Commanders or Bank of America, which has handled such notable team sales as the purchase of the Los Angeles Clippers by Steve Ballmer in 2014, would comment.

Im March of 2021 Snyder and his family got 100% control of the Commanders when he bought out his minoirty partners. It was a savvy move by Snyder as the value of NFL teams have continued to soar.

Rob Walton purchased the Denver Broncos for $4.65 billion in early August. Later that month we valued the Commanders at $5.6 billion, sixth among the league’s 32 teams. Along with the football team, Snyder owns FedEx Field and the 264 acres around it, as well as 150 acres at the team’s headquarters in Ashburn, Virginia.

As the team has rebranded from the Redskins to the Commanders, revenues have increased sharply. Team sponsorhsip revenue is surging 40% this season versus 2021 and the team landed their richest sponsorship deal ever with SeatGeek.

The Commanders, among the most iconic teams in North America due to their long history and geographical location, have only had three owners since joining the NFL in 1932 as the Boston Branves. The Commanders are also working on finding a location for a new stadium, which could be potentially be ready in five or six years.
