However, I still don’t get the serious interest in paying a WR big money. if it happens, fine, just seems like a luxury approach.

He already has that #1 here in Mclaurin. He’s got his poor mans McCaffery in the backs. Gibson and McKissic have the makings of a very solid duo.

Based on what we have, another young receiver needs to emerge. We have enough on the books for one more to stick. It’s a deep draft class to add another. Got for a true deep threat target. Add a mid range contract in FA to round the group out.

Get a #1 TE.

I think the idea might be similar to mu idea.  That this year it will just be easier to get a top WR than a top TE in free agency

Yeah that is a fair point. Could be a few very good WRs available in a cap restricted year.

I think we need to draft a TE in the mid rounds. Probably should for the next couple of drafts.

I swear it feels our entire lineup is nothing but Curtis Samuels. I’d rather have a big strong physical possession receiver. Hopefully Harmon comes back healthy because he could be a huge part of this Corp.

Terry McLaurin is nothing like Samuels. McLaurin is one of the best receivers in the game and can make the tough physical catches and is every bit a possession receiver. What I think we actually need is a TE who can block and catch to help fill that role as well. The days of the 6-4 WRs that are physical are disappearing (unless they run 4.3's like Metcalf), we need need more speed and quickness to create deception so defenses stay confused.

I’d argue we have a plethora of WR3-4 guys. We have 1 WR1 and 0 WR2.

Thats why I go big in FA at receiver or I don’t go at all.

Though I’m not sure if cam Sims or Wright couldn’t develop into a solid #2.  It’s probably unlikely but it’s not impossible.  But they’re not there now for sure.

You’re right and I was thinking about that after I posted it. It’s Terry and then a bunch of Samuels.

I got the interest with Cooper, I think in hindsight Rivera will be comfortable we don’t have that contract on the books now. That’s would have been another 20mil wasted this season. Rivera has also now had a season to see Mclaurin first hand. I mean, in 18 months he should be getting a 75-80mil contract extension. Don’t need 2 of those concurrently on the books at WR.

This is why you pay one now and front load it. I doubt Jonathan Allen is back beyond next year tbh and now that we don’t have a qb we’ll have to worry about dishing out 30 mil a year for at least another 4 years now is the time to make a splashy signing. Bring in Robinson or Kenny and give them a ton on a 3 year bridge deal so they’ll still get another big contract before 30. Only have one or maybe two years of overlapping heavy pay for two receivers and call it a day.

We do have cap space but it won’t bring quite the riches people expect if the cap is no more than the reported 175m. Not ideal for front loading contracts either.

But as I said, if we do decide to blow our wad on a WR I’m sure come the time I’ll be drooling over the move like everyone else.:rofl89:

We’re projected to have about 20 million in rollover so technically we’re sitting at 195 if that’s what the cap is. I also don’t expect us to go nuts in FA but if there’s a position I think we can best fill with an established player it’s WR.

yeah, with rollover we'd have about 51 million, letting go of Smith gets us another 14+ and June 1st Collins adds another 8.  Of course there's no guarantee we're letting go of Collins, but with Smith, at the very least he's not here under his current contract

If we go tight end I prefer it be a Hunter Long, Freiermuth, Bushman, Ferguson type versus Pitts/Jordan type.

Also... Jamie Collins is another guy I really would have liked having inside.

We have a great TE!!!! He doubles as a QB.....extend this man!!!

I don’t hate it. But I don’t really see a need for it. He’d be functioning similarly to how he was playing when he was down in the box this season and he still whiffed on a way too many tackles for my liking.

The upside is he’ll flash once in awhile and make some big plays to kind of cover up the bad ones.

I don’t know about cap implications but if he isn’t playing Will I would move on from him if possible. Curl plays better at SS

Curl has been strong. Certainly justifies the reluctance to bring another SS like Reid straight onto the roster. I’ll eat my words on that one.

Another reflection from yesterday’s game is also that, yep, we could really benefit from a high end WR alongside Terry Mc. If this years FA pool looks like it may well be heading, it’s worth the investment.

Stills may still be good 😛

He was productive through last year.

Only 11 catches thus far this year, with a TD, but only been targeted 19 times

A couple possible reasons why he was let go - change in coaching staff, going another direction, and I believe they've had someone come back from injury, and been getting nice production from Fuller, Cooks, and Cobb.

Regardless, he's expected to latch on somewhere. And noone needs a receiver more than we do. Surely, he's good enough to crack our WR lineup

I have kind of thought about him but he is just another WR4. I don’t think we need him

I think Stills would be an incredibly shrewd pick-up if we could. I doubt he would come here. I can seem him going back to Miami TbH.

Miami fans and media seem to hate Stills, I think there was trouble there with him but I haven't seen anything specific.
