Posted this in the FA thread which adds some context:

Here's how Foster's 2018 has gone:

  • January 13th - Arrested n Tuscaloosa, Alabama for second-degree marijauna possession - charge got dismissed May 24 upon his completion of a diversion program.
  • February 11th - Arrested in Los Gatos for alleged domestic violence against Elissa Ennis - She withdrew her complaint, but the NFL investigated and suspended him 2 games for the legal issue.
  • June 6th - He pleaded no contest to the weapons violation and was put on two years probation and sentenced to 30 days of community service.
  • July 3rd - He was suspended for 2 games by the NFL under its personal conduct and substance abuse policies.
  • October 12th - Police were called to a location jointly occupied by Foster/Ennis when their neighbors called after a loud argument. It started over things found on Foster's cell phone, according to police, who told the couple to peacefully resolve the situation and didn't make any arrests.
  • November 24th - Arrested in Tampa for domestic abuse against Ennis at the team's hotel.
  • November 25th - 49ers release Foster, citing they "laid out some very specific ground rules for Reuben" and in the Q&A portion of John Lynch's comments said "He didn’t protect the team".
  • November 27th - The Washington Redskins are the only team to put in a waiver claim for Reuben Foster, so he's now a member of their team.

He's been arrested 3 times this year. Not all relate to his ex. His ex might be nuts, but he appears to have issues avoiding her (no restraining order).

More teams inquired than that.

Looks like I made an assumption and was way, way wrong

Eagles, not Redskins, only NFL team to contact police about latest arrest of Reuben Foster

If that is too much text, sorry in advance mods

I don't see any risk to the move.  Maybe this becomes an issue if the guy actually sticks around and becomes an important player for us.  But at that point, he'll be playing good football and no one will care.

Agreed, there is nearly no risk at all. It’s something some will be bothered by for a moment, but no more so than they are when someone puts a jar of peanut butter back empty. PR is, essentially, what your record is. Dallas picks up everyone & it never hurts them, one team (🤫) has an owner popping pills by the handful and they’re good to go, and Pitt plays a QB who is as nasty a human as there is...and their - “pr hit” - was jack s...

The upside is immense, the down side doesn’t actually exist. There aren’t 8 humans who will care about this if he’s guilty & gets cut. If that happens, someone else will be working him out in the not too distant future.

Washington, from my understanding, had Allen & Foster in their top 5, much as we had Payne & James this year...let Derwin get accused and he will be here too. The name of our team is far more significant, but Snyder doesn’t blink, he certainly isn’t worried about the faux outrage over some accusations against a LB...his home isn’t all that far from the White House or Supreme Court ..where far more serious positions are held by men facing far more significant accusations.

Risk potential: 0.5/100

Reward potential: 100/100

I’m a guy who would rather lose with a Joe Gibbs than win with a Mike Vick, but reality is, the guy will never wear a Redskins jersey if he’s not exonerated.

There are guys on nearly every team with past accusations against them...Denver recently picked up AJ Johnson & not a peep was heard ...anywhere. If he becomes a star, & there is a chance that he will, that story will become bigger news.

For the 'give him a chance' brigade - he's had chances - numerous. If there were no issues he would still be at San Fran.

He obviously has serious issues and they should be addressed before anybody even thinks about hiring him. It wouldn't surprise me if it was Allen. He would sell his grandmother for a decent winning season. Sorry - he would sell somebody else's grandmother.

A good, well run club does not make this move.

Do you think that he views this at a second chance and will work extra hard to play for us?  Sometime people need a change of scenery

People are good at keeping things quite, that they want quiet. Some teams want it to be known that they are doing their due diligence, others don’t want it to be known when they are sniffing around the likes of Reuben Foster.

Team's getting severely slammed on multiple major news outlets--tv, radio, print.

Radio people say talk show lines are lit up and far into the negative for the 'skins.

Predictably. Dallas was slammed for Hardy. This is the next scene in the play, a classic we’ve all seen many times.

I just saw them do a piece on CNN.  Not flattering.

Obvious backlash is obvious.  It would interesting to know who in the FO was against claiming him.  My guess is Jay was not in favor.

I bet Jay was in favor.

Right, at this point I'm trying to look at this move in a vacuum and understand that this move doesn't endorse or accept any behavior, all it does is give us the chance to have him a member of this team if we chose to do so.  Where we go from here will be the true test, depending on the outcome of the investigation and whatever events take place from here.  If he's guilty, we can cut him and it's like it never happened.  No moneys paid, no real harm done.  If he's guilty and we decide to hang by him with some false narrative... then we'll come out of this thing looking terrible.

Foster is paid pursuant to his existing contract while he is on the exempt list and it counts against the cap.  Goodell can take Foster off of the exempt list at any time, and probably will pending the investigation by the Florida police department.  At that point, Foster takes up a roster spot and its up to the Skins whether they play him.  My guess is that if he's taking a roster spot, he'll play.  But, in any case, the Skins are paying his salary until he is waived, at a minimum.

A more interesting question is whether the Skins could drop Foster and not be obligated to pay the guaranteed portion of his contract which includes some, but not all, of 2020.

This organization has been a laughing stock media circus since Snyder bought the team, Finally the past 5 or so years we appeared to have matured , Drafting players, Staying away from high priced over the hill free agents, not being a media mockery and then 2018 and its like we are completely regressing. I Mean WTF is going on.

Its like the RedskinsF/O doesn't get the whole team chemistry thing, they really don't.

Why do you think our teams chemistry will be hurt by this?

Dallas picked up Hardy after he had paid off the victim and she had bolted, leaving the prosecution with no witness (supposedly).  This case has unlimited opportunity to embarrass the Skins: (1) when Foster is charged, (2) when Foster is taken off the exempt list, (3) when the trial begins, (4) any time the victim wants to speak out, (5) when we need his roster spot, (6) when the trial concludes, (7) when draft day comes and they need to figure out whether they need a LB, (7) when he beats up the guy who gives him a flu shot,....

Bruce Allen is an idiot if he thinks this will blow over in a few days.

Considering how long the 49ers tried to make it work with Aldon Smith.......they showed Foster the door rather quickly in comparison.

They caught the backlash that we are facing now when they didn’t cut him after the initial accusation. In the not too distant future, they were lauded for standing by their guy and letting the process play out.

Aldon Smith was better.  And they got burned by Smith, so stands to reason the next guy would get a shorter leash.

Already it's turning into a **** storm with players publicly saying that the FO is essentially lying.

It is, frankly, adorable for people to think that a change of scenery will do something for him.  Have you seen his record, legally/discipline/PR?  He will do the same thing here.  This isn't DJ not fitting a scheme; this is a personality.  Different zip codes, uniform colors, and terminology will make zero difference in the long run.  What something like this does is enable the behaviors.  Oh, you caused enough of a stir to be accused of all of this?  No problem, we'll just have another team pay you millions.  What does that say to a kid?

He got into a fight with a medical worker during his physical at the ****ing combine.  The place where EVERYONE knows you have to be on your best behavior and that you'll have a national audience.  Oh, while failing a drug test.  Goes on to fail again in the NFL.  Gets arrested twice in the first two months of the year.  Gets arrested four ****ing days ago for the same goddamn thing.

As for those who are saying it won't affect team chemistry, you've got to be kidding me.  It tells the defense that it's so bad that they're willing to take this kind of risk.  It tells the team that it's okay to act like this.  I don't care if he did it or not; he knew that he was being watched and continued to put himself in a position that got him cut a year after being taken in the first round.  But that's okay because after he's suspended forever he will make up for Mason Foster's sideline-to-sideline slowness.  This is the anti-London Fletcher.

Not to mention that he's made of glass and was injured half of his rookie year and this year until, you know, he was released because third arrest.

This isn't like trying to sign a young Lawrence Taylor, the guy isn't even that good and can't stay healthy.  I don't know why so many of you are coming to his defense.

And another notch in the idiocy of this front office.

Everything that hat makes it’s way to twitter, radio & television is for ratings, I’d not act based on what someone else feels is good for ratings. Many of those who act outraged, which creates more outrage, which boosts ratings, have supported far more sinister creatures than Reuben.

So you're getting political again and you seem to feel a need to respond a lot---rather than the temp ban facing you, you can voluntarily take the rest of the day off of this thread and return tomorrow. And then make sure it doesn't happen again.

(I edited the comment out of the original post so folks coming along wouldn't read it, respond, and extend the tangent---that's why we have rules)

So there's actually a chance that once he's convicted he's doing so as a Redskins...

Without ever playing a snap for the team...
