Miami Herald: I’m done trying to understand Trump supporters. Why don’t they try to understand me?

Actual Republicans or the current crop of goo masquerading as Republicans?  While I find it unwise to attach a label to myself (conservative, liberal, Republican, Democrat, etc), there are many aspects of what is supposed to be conservatism that I find I would be more inclined toward over liberalism.

Caveat... that’s if you strip away any nonsense that has been attached to those words. For instance, “strong family values” does not mean gay people are icky but Imma worship this dude who keeps groping women & cheating on his wives with porn stars. Capitalism does not mean a system that benefits those who already possess capital. Small government does not mean forfeiting good ideas that can help people if it’s going to cut into our lobbyists’ profits.

So in short, you support Republicans slogans, just not their actions:)

That's how I was for a long time.  And there are still slogans I believe in.  I left the GOP because they never lived up to their slogans.

Same here. I never saw the "trickle down", and I voted for Reagan. My best money came in the Clinton administration and I had to come to terms with that and check out the dem side. Once I did, I realized I identified more with their ideology & that Rush Limbaugh was feeding me a bunch of bull**** every night.

Voted for Harry Brown in 2000, Kerry in '04, etc.

When I'm getting ready to vote, the standard I try to use is "Do I think the country will be better off if this person wins?"

To me, I care more about what I think they will accomplish, than what their slogans might be.

For example, when contemplating Hillary/Trump, I was really comparing "Hillary with a Republican congress" vs "Trump with a Republican congress".  So I really didn't expect a lot of grand accomplishments from Hillary.  (I figured she would basically be a third term of Obama.)

One of my coworkers strolled into my office yesterday and out of nowhere just started singing Trump's praises to me. I had no idea why. He just began a conversation about all good things Trump. I pretended not to listen at first but when it reached about the 4 minute mark I simply replied, "There's no reason on Earth why you and I should have this conversation."

It turned into a yelling match with me repeatedly saying that the discussion was a moot point and that neither of us would ever bend. I pleaded with him to stop the madness. He woke up with morning wood for Trump and brought it to me, knowing I'm not a supporter. It was basically a troll job because he must have been mad about something else and needed to transfer that anger to another person... an easy target.

At some point he just kept repeating "but the economy and the coal jobs (he's from WV) and Obama was a liar and Ivanka is gorgeous she's a future president, etc etc." while I tried to ignore him until finally I had to physically get up and leave the room to avoid tackling this guy and pounding his face into the floor.

It's a "Master Bait" shop, smarty-pants!

I work at a video production studio in downtown DC. This guy is the house engineer. A crusty old ex-drug addict from rural WV but admittedly a smart dude who can get anything up and running. Great problem solver and usually a good person to be around. He actually flip-flops about Trump a lot but this was one of those days where he was on the Trump train and looking for people to piss off. Mission accomplished.

Not that smart, apparently. He can't take the temp of the room or realize he's in a work situation unless there literally are no other people who can do what he does.

Then, he's trolling. Still, hard to take somebody like that seriously.

I can blow off any single comment or even ignore a Trump rave for a few minutes but after repeatedly expressing that the discussion was going nowhere and still being hassled, I got angry. Not at the content of the conversation. I know he was batsh*t. It was the persistent effort to drag me into it. Srsly, F these people.

I am so tired of the "more money in my paycheck" reasoning for claiming the economy is great.  So many factors go into your own specific paycheck.  It could be as simple as you being in the same position for multiple years when "insert President here" is elected and your raises are built-in regardless.   I remember during the Dubya Presidency my good buddy would often float the "well, I make more money under Bush than I did Clinton, so..." and I I kept trying to explain to him that we were teenagers during Clinton, he worked at a pizza joint and then a JC Penny call center and now works at HP.  I don't think the President has anything to do with it.

This is actually a great got damn idea. it would be the greatest troll job of the century outside of Trumps election.

And It would be easy lol

I’m 100 percent in. It’s all about sitting down and break bread with those who look different than you do. Giving thanks for diversity. Definitely done by liberals early on. Let’s do this.

The SALT act imposed during Trump's **** royally ****ed me when it came to taxes.  All I know is because of his laws, I had like $18k less that I could deduct from last year when it came tax time this past year.

Right. I should have clarified. I didn't mean on the macro level that policies don't effect the economy/paychecks.  I was more meaning the people who see minimal effects in their pay check up or down when in reality those changes were likely coming regardless, say a built-in raise or merit increase etc etc etc
