Ted Cruz is fundraising off his bill limiting senators to two terms in office while running for his third term

 

Sen. Ted Cruz is fundraising off legislation to limit senators to serving two terms in office, all while he's running for his third.

 

The Texas Republican touted his bill in a fundraising email for Senate Republicans' campaign arm Thursday, seeking contributions and asking supporters to respond to a term limits poll. The contributions benefit Ted Cruz for Senate and the National Republican Senatorial Committee.

 

"It's finally time we do something about the entrenched politicians in Washington," wrote Cruz, who was first elected to the Senate in 2012. "I want to know what YOU think about my Constitutional Amendment to impose TERM LIMITS on Senators and House Members."

 

In January, Cruz proposed a Constitutional amendment that would ban a US senator from serving more than 12 years and House members from serving more than three 2-year terms.

However, the resolution would not count terms served by members before enactment against them. That means Cruz would not be term-limited until 2036 if the bill were passed by this Congress, the Texas Tribune noted.

In court filings on Thursday, Trump's lawyers argued that the 2005 "Access Hollywood" tape, in which a then-newlywed Trump boasted about groping women, shouldn't be admitted as evidence in an upcoming defamation trial brought by Elle advice columnist E. Jean Carroll. 

 

Carroll sued Trump for defamation in 2019 after he publicly denied her claim that she was raped by him in a Bergdorf Goodman dressing room in the mid-1990s.

 

Carroll filed a second lawsuit for claims of defamation and rape last year — both lawsuits have April trial dates and may end up being tried together. The request to exclude the "Access Hollywood" tape was made in the first, defamation-only case.

 

Trump's lawyers argued in court filings Thursday that the "Access Hollywood" tape "must be precluded"  from trial because it is "irrelevant and highly prejudicial."

Parler app once hailed as conservative Twitter alternative yanked by new owners

 

Parler, a social media app that with low content moderation measures that catered to conservatives, will be taken down by its new owners, according to a Friday announcement. 

 

The app was acquired by the digital media company Starboard, formerly known as Olympic Media. Parler had been floundering after it was briefly pulled from mainstream app stores and Amazon’s web hosting service

 

Starboard’s announcement said that the app as it is “currently constituted will be pulled down from operation to undergo a strategic assessment.”

 

“No reasonable person believes that a Twitter clone just for conservatives is a viable business any more,” Starboard said in the announcement.

The problem with anyone thinking that republicans might pay a price at the polls over passing abortion bans that only a small portion of their base supports is that when people actually go to vote the “Democrats want go raise your taxes” gaslighting overwhelms the modest “government should restrict what (some one who isn’t me) people do to with” bodies.
