Police Fired 90 Bullets At A Black Man, Killing Him And Then Handcuffing His Body, His Family Said

The family of Jayland Walker, who was shot and killed by police in Akron, Ohio, on Monday, is demanding answers as details about the brutality of the shooting sparked protests in the city.

Walker, a 25-year-old Black man, was chased by police after refusing to stop when officers tried to pull him over for a traffic violation at 12:30 a.m. on Monday, according to the Akron Police Department. Police claimed a shot was fired from the car, and after the driver slowed down and got out of the vehicle, officers followed him on foot into a parking lot.

"Actions by the suspect caused the officers to perceive he posed a deadly threat to them," police said. "In response to this threat, officers discharged their firearms, striking the suspect."

Walker was pronounced dead at the scene. The Summit County Medical Examiner's Office determined that his cause of death was from multiple gunshot wounds and ruled it a homicide.

Police fired more than 90 rounds at Walker during the encounter, striking him more 60 times, including in his face, Bobby DiCello, the family's attorney, told BuzzFeed News, citing information that the family received from Akron Police Chief Steve Mylett.

"We know that he was handcuffed after he was shot and killed, and he was found with his hands cuffed on his back when the medical personnel arrived," DiCello added.

Akron, Ohio, sets downtown curfew, cancels fireworks in wake of Jayland Walker protests

Officials on Monday set a 9 p.m. curfew for downtown Akron, Ohio, and canceled a fireworks show in the wake of protests over the police killing of Black motorist Jayland Walker.

Mayor Dan Horrigan said the action was necessary due to the threat of violence and property damage in the northeast Ohio city's downtown district.

Police on Sunday released officers' body camera footage of the June 27 shooting, and Horrigan praised protesters for their initial "peaceful" demonstration that "did not escalate to violence and destruction."

"However, as night fell and others began to join, the protests became no longer peaceful," he said in a statement. "There was significant property damage done to downtown Akron."

Florida police officer charged with DUI in patrol car

An Apopka police officer was reportedly charged with DUI after he was pulled over in a marked patrol vehicle in Eustis on his way to work Monday.

WFTV reported Oscar Mayorga was pulled over by Eustis police officers after they saw him driving recklessly. When he was pulled over, police saw Mayorga had an open beer can in the car’s center cupholder.

Mayorga also smelled of alcohol, according to Channel 9.

When officers asked Mayorga to get out of the car for a sobriety test, WFTV said couldn’t keep his balance and almost fell several times.

At the point Mayorga reportedly told officers he had “three tall boys” before his shift.

Flagstaff PD officers fully naked, fondled during massage investigation

Two Flagstaff police officers went undercover to massage parlors, took their pants off, and allowed themselves to be fondled eight different times.

Experts tell ABC15 that state law clearly outlines that as illegal. The operation, though, was approved by federal agents, Coconino County prosecutors and Flagstaff’s command staff.

Federal agents called it “Operation High Country Hydra.”

In 2019, a tip was called in about Flagstaff massage parlors accepting money for sex acts.

Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) and Flagstaff PD launched a joint months-long investigation to try and stop the suspected “human trafficking, sex trafficking and prostitution.”

When the investigation was complete, not a single trafficking victim had been identified.

Police arrested 13 people though, after two officers went undercover and got completely naked.

Officer Dustin Eberhardt remembers the 'confusion' from his first undercover massage.

“I was like, ‘Well, do you want me to take them off?’ And so she was like, ‘Well, your comfort – if you want them off or you don't want oil on them.’ There was kind of some confusion on that, so I ended up taking them off because that's what I felt like the suggestion was from her,” recalled Eberhardt in a video deposition.

The Flagstaff officer went on to explain that he tried to minimize the amount of time the massage parlor employee was fondling his exposed genitals.

“As soon as I got aroused, that's when I immediately started asking about the money and how much. And like I said, I've never done one of these, so I was fairly nervous and I didn't know where to stop it. So I was trying to stop it quickly.”

Police reports reveal Officer Eberhardt allowed different women to touch him seven more times over the next 48 hours.

Roughly three months later, another Flagstaff police employee, Officer Hutchinson, went back into five of the same massage parlors and did the same thing. The reason for the second round of sexual contact was to see if the businesses would accept debit cards.

Both men documented every instance of sexual contact with a recording device, and in detailed reports.

Also, Officer Eberhardt’s initial ‘confusion’ about ‘where to stop’ may come as a surprise - since the operation had been in the works for months, and the ‘fondling’ was discussed and approved ahead of time by prosecutors, police department leaders and federal agents.

“So the officer[s] in this case could be charged with trafficking and they are not,” said Brad Rideout, an Arizona defense attorney and former prosecutor, who has handled hundreds of prostitution cases in his career.

“In Arizona, you cannot exchange money for sex acts while on duty. It is a crime,” said Rideout.

He is referring to state statute 13-1412:

“A peace officer commits unlawful sexual conduct by knowingly engaging in sexual contact…with any person who is in the officer's custody or…the subject of an investigation.”

Timothy Loehmann, officer who killed 12-year-old Tamir Rice, won’t be hired as the only police officer in Pennsylvania town after pushback

A tiny town in northcentral Pennsylvania had planned to hire Timothy Loehmann, the former Cleveland police officer who shot and killed Tamir Rice in 2014.

Loehmann was sworn in Tuesday in Tioga, a borough of 700 people near Williamsport.

However, Loehmann “has officially with drawn his application for Tioga Borough Police Officer,” Tioga officials wrote on the borough website Thursday.

The move to hire Loehmann drew protests from dozens of residents who criticized the hiring Wednesday night at the town’s offices, according to published reports.

“I was under the impression that there was a thorough background check into him, that he didn’t have any issues,” Mayor David Wilcox told cleveland.com and The Plain Dealer.

“I found it strange that someone would move here all the way from Cleveland, Ohio, for $18 an hour. But I heard that he wanted to get away from it all and come here to hunt and fish.”

Loehmann would’ve been the lone officer in the borough, which has a population of around 700.

Here in Fairfax.

Looking for thoughts on this.  Evidently there was a call from an IHOP where a group of teens allegedly threatened to kill a hostess.  Police were called, two were detained.  This guy approaches them from behind with his phone and gets the guns drawn on him.

With the very limited information, I’m having trouble being outraged at the cops in this situation.

Anchorage police investigated in White Privilege card photo

An investigation has been launched after a person believed to be an Anchorage, Alaska, police officer was shown in a photo with a woman in town for a Donald Trump rally flashing a novelty “White Privilege card.”

The social media post caused concerns about racial equality in Alaska's largest city.

Mimi Israelah claimed in a Facebook post that she was pulled over for weaving at 3:43 a.m. while driving to a pizzeria in Anchorage after arriving on an early-morning flight from California for Trump’s rally Saturday to support local Republican candidates he’s backed.

“Officer Bo” asked for her driver’s license but she couldn’t find it, she wrote on Facebook.

“When I saw my White Privilege card, I gave to him if it’s ok,” she wrote. “He laughed and called his partner. It’s their first time to see a White Privileged (sic) card,” she said.

A video apparently taken by Israelah of the encounter has been reposted on Twitter. Two officers are seen standing outside her car window. She asks one, “You like my White Privilege card?” The unidentified officer says, "That’s hilarious.”

In the Facebook comments shown at the end of the video, someone asks if she received a ticket. She replied, “nope.”

The original Facebook post has been deleted but screenshots and the video appear on social media.

It was not immediately clear if disciplinary action would be taken against officers involved or if a citation was actually issued to Israelah.

Police bodycam video shows teen raising arms before shot

Police bodycam video of an officer shooting a 13-year-old boy appears to show the boy raising his hands in the air a moment before shots were fired, according to an attorney for the boy’s family.

The shooting May 18 on the city’s West Side left the boy paralyzed.

The video is from the body camera of an officer running after the 13-year-old believed to have been a passenger in a stolen car. The footage is from another officer involved in the chase.

“Let’s be clear," said Andrew Stroth, an attorney for the boy's family. "What the video shows is an unarmed Black boy, running away from the police, puts his hands up, obeying what he heard from the officers, and without cause or provocations is shot.”

The officer's name has not been released publicly, but WLS-TV said his attorney, Timothy Grace, issued a statement saying the officer believed the boy was armed with a gun. Investigators said they never found a gun at the scene.

Too many cops out here acting like Yzma form Emperor's New Groove

Cop 1: "Put your hands up and we'll shoot!"
Cop 2: "Uh, don't you mean Or?"
Cop 1: "Fine, put your hands up OR we'll shoot!"
Person about to be shot: "Which is it? That's a pretty crucial conjunction"

(And then they get shot, because cops love shooting unarmed people and claiming they thought they had a weapon in their empty hands, but ya know...)
