TC: North Korean Supreme Leader Kim Jong Un Officially Condemns James Franco And Seth Rogen

Apparently the hackers sent a new letter to Sony (INFO HERE).

"It's very wise that you have made the decision to cancel the release of The Interview. It will be very useful for you," CNN reports the message as reading. The email concludes, "We will ensure the security of your data unless you make additional trouble."

"Now we want you never let the movie released, distributed or leaked in any form of, for instance, DVD or piracy," the message reportedly says. It also says, "And we want everything related to the movie, including its trailers, as well as its full version down from any website hosting them immediately."

I'm truly shocked that terrorists who got their way are now making more demands. Who would've imagined that.

Will Sony continue to capitulate by sticking with it's plan to shelve this thing completely, while trying to follow the new demands to pull down things like trailers immedietely?

Yep. As of right now they have no intention of releasing the movie in any form.  And it was a few of the large theater chains that decided not to show the movie,(after Sony said it was up to them to decide),that had Sony pull the trigger. According to one spokesman,(this is all in a link I posted earlier),for one chain, government officials weren't as convinced behind closed doors as they portrayed themselves to be in public in regards to there not being a credible threat to the theaters themselves. Oh. And to add to the mess.

Paramount Cancels ‘Team America’ Showings, Theaters Say

Forget those plans by Alamo Drafthouse Cinema and other theaters to run Team America: World Police in place of The Interview. The Austin-based chain says that Paramount has now decided not to offer South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone’s 2004 satire that focuses on Kim Jong-il, the late father of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un. Alamo says that the cancellation at its Dallas theater is “due to circumstances beyond our control” and says it will offer refunds to those who have already bought tickets. Cleveland’s Capitol Theater also tweeted that Team America“has been canceled by Paramount Pictures.”

Well, that's much more serious, if actually true IMO.   That means that they are probably worried about the legal ramifications of such releases and it translates into anybody who decides to use this tactic, having a significant amount of power on the entire industry.

On the other hand, this is a huge opportunity for Video Industry and Pay Per View stuff like Netflix etc.  If they stood up and decided to air these films, that could pay huge dividends for them.

How exactly are they supposed to stop piracy? This is why you don't bow down to terrorist, you just open the door for more outrageous demands.

FBI making it official with North Korea.

------

Michael Lynton putting this one in the laps of the theater chains,(which Sony has been doing since pulling the movie). Be interesting to see a response from a few of them. Also wondering about the online streaming services. My guess they might be interested but need to make sure they tighten things up a bit before going out and grabbing this film. Wouldn't want to see their emails and such thrown out there too.

They should release a version with Korean audio and subtitle options complete with alternative endings in which Kim Jong Un meets his end in a variety of different humiliating ways. The guy is the latest in a family of monsters, he and his family deserve no respect.

The one issue would be this: what if this is a hoax and NK is not behind this? I'm not saying Sony wasn't hacked, just saying the NK is a useful fall guy because they'd never cooperate with any investigation or admit guilt.

This reeks of "Iraq has WMD's!" to me.
