what?!? Say it isn’t so

edit: I see it’s been discussed and I’m behind. I really enjoyed it. Creepy and unsettling as hell, great cast. Tragic turn of events allows the cult to prey on this woman.

also, dumb teenagers/young adults. A classic of the genre

The cult in Midsommar was about the dumbest thing I’ve ever seen. I wish they had all jumped off that rock ledge. 😆

Seriously though, not one character or line that is worth remembering in my opinion. Just cookie cutter young people doing dumb **** that they justified because “hey…cult!”

I think Ari Aster is a bit too clever for his own good. His films are not nearly as smart as they think they are. Dude just put out a three hour bomb with Joaquin Phoenix.

Reminds me of a guy named M Knight. I expect a similar career trajectory.

"Inspired by the incredible true story of a hairdresser who single-handedly rallies an entire community to help a widowed father save the life of his critically ill young daughter."

This one is worth watching, Hilary rocks !

That new Godzilla v Kong movie really is a hoot.  They stripped the human cast down to the bare minimum and leaned into a full-on kaiju rumble start to finish…and it works!

Great creature design too and you can see it because the movie IS NOT DARK.  Which is very refreshing.

Watching the Iron Claw on HBO...really great.  Had to stop partway through to finish up work this afternoon but plan on finishing it later today or tomorrow.

When the **** did Zac Efron become a pretty good actor?

Love watching the Von Erich's growing up.

So I'm embarrassed to admit but finally got around to watching Dune 1 on the flight over 2 weeks ago.

I now get the hype.

Fwiw Dune 2 is dropping on Max, May 21.

I haven't seen either one yet.

I think he’s similar to Pattinson (though not as good). Two great actors trapped in silly teen hearthrob franchises so they weren’t taken seriously and were overlooked but once they broke free of that, they were able to showcase their talent.

Only really remember Kerry. Mind blown knowing that he was on a prosthetic foot when I was watching him.

The story behind that is something else. IIRC, he lost the foot because he wanted to go out for a hamburger or something like that and injured it so severely it needed to be amputated.

Godzilla minus one

At its heart, Godzilla Minus One is the story of Kōichi Shikishima (Ryunosuke Kamiki), a kamikaze pilot in WWII who abandons his mission for fear of dying. While taking refuge at a base for aviation repair, he has his first encounter with Godzilla, and is one of only two survivors of the monster’s attack. Upon arriving home and learning that his parents died in an American air raid on Tokyo, Shikishima becomes riddled with survivor’s guilt and feels that he is unworthy of his life. This sentiment is parroted by both his neighbor Sumiko (Sakura Ando) and Tachibana (Munetaka Aoki), an engineer and the other survivor of the first Godzilla attack. Despite taking in a woman who also lost her family, Noriko (Minami Hamabe) and an orphan named Akiko, Shikishima doesn’t see much value in his own existence and considers himself a coward, especially because he repeatedly survives encounters with Godzilla where others are killed. Posted (edited)

I did watch the Iron Claw.  However recently, I've started showing my 14 year old daughter and 12 year old son movies that are either good, or beloved, from previous decades, probably pushing the envelope on a few of these.

Talladega Nights

Happy Gilmore

Monty Python and the Holy Grail (fast forwarded through the castle of women)

Army of Darkness

West Side Story

Clue

Bill and Ted

Bad News Bears (Walter Matthau version)

We've had to have a talk before a few of these but they're generally enjoying them.  I tried The Goonies and Willow a few years ago but they got bored.  May have to revisit those.  My wife has pretty much given up on language, but we still aren't crossing the "adult" line so I'll have to wait awhile for Big Lebowski, Fast Times at Ridgemont High, Porky's or things like that.
