Reminds me of the time I saw Dan Rather doing a live spot during a "hurricane" in VA beach circa 1992.

Was far less dramatic in person than it seemed like he was making it.

Heard virtually the same story from an outer banks local years later. Said he had some guy shaking a sign he was trying to hold onto.

I never wish for someone to lose their livelihood. This situation is no different to me.

Pretty pathetic and ignorant thing to lie about. Apologize, be sincere and let's move forward.

In a normal situation, yes. But this guy is the face of NBC News. You can't have the face of your network news be caught in a 12 year lie. I don't know what NBC is going to do, but Dan Rather lost his job for running with a story that was shaky. Brian Williams straight lied to the cameras on NBC, on Letterman, at MSG, and in print for 12 years.

This is kind of weird. Apparently the story he shared in the year or so after it happened was pretty accurate. Seemed to have evolved over time.

I guess this would be the equivalent of soldiers embellishing their war stories?

Anyway, I'm not going to kill the guy over it. He fessed up and seemed sincere enough in his apology. Definitely a black eye on his career though.

can't stand how decrepit major network "journalism" is these days. i don't think i'm playing the oldster "things were better in my day" shtick here---i think it's obvious how "journalism" has become an all flash, fluff, and money infotainment industry

tv wise, on the national level, BBC, CBC, and PBS are far better to me than the CBS/NBC/ABC options, let alone the farcical MSNBC/CNN/Fox.

I agree. Everyone comes with pitchforks and torches and wants everyone's head on a platter.

I don't watch any of the evening news programs so this will really not affect my life one bit. Journalism has been dead in this country for a while now anyway.
