Just like with Forbes, we got a very good football player. Can't be upset by that as far as individual player evaluations go.

He is an immediate and absolute upgrade to McCain as well, so we got better with this pick for sure.

Like Forbes, this guy finds the ball and is aggressive. I don't think he has the same anticipatory read skills that Forbes has, but Forbes is probably best in class at that skill. One of Quan's legs probably weighs more than Forbes' does, though.

It's clear that we targeted guys who are near the ball. Turnovers are an emphasis.

For that purpose, we got a great player.

Outside of him being described like a Waffle House breakfast, I like the pick.  If you gonna to go BPA, it doesn't hurt doubling down on the seconday in a passing league.

He's our Savory Safety and Buffalo Jerky Nickle

Another turnover creating DB.  Here's hoping they found their Buffalo Nickel here.

Buffalo Nickel is Kam.

According to Keim, the coaches want Curl at SS. They fear the hybrid spot wears him down. Martin is the hybrid, and provides excellent scheme flexibility.

possible they switch them up.  In 5 DB sets that seem like there's a bit more chance for a run, Curl is Buffalo Nickel, Forrest is SS, Martin is FS, with pass more likely Martin is BN, Curl is SS, Forrest is FS

Agreed.

Just interesting to see them list him as a corner in the draft, but Ron talking about him made it seem to be:

1A) Free Safety

1B) Nickel Corner

He did mention the Buffalo Nickel, but still get the sense he is their FS. Chris Simms had him as the #1 Safety.

Quan is my favorite of our draft picks!

Me too.

A.  Picks-forced fumbles

B. Outside corner-slot-FS -- plays them all well

C. Baller

D. One of the best athletes in this class

E.  High intangibles

F.  good fit for this defense IMO

Here's what McGinn's scouts said about him

NFL draft 2023: Best prospects at 53 different skills

Best deep-field range: Jartavius Martin, S, Illinois

Martin can match in coverage, and he's an explosive mover with good speed. His 4.46-second run in the 40-yard dash ranked third among safeties at the combine, and we see him open and run well on tape. His deep range fits as a center fielder or Cover 2 safety in the league. Martin can cover some grass here. One of the most versatile defensive backs in this year's class, he logged 12 pass breakups and three interceptions for Illinois last season.

It's a great time to get drafted by us, but none of these guys seem very excited.

It's true. You can hear the disappointment and shame in their voices as they barely attempt to feign the slightest bit of interest in playing for this franchise.

KJ Henry's dad was excited at least.

A guy who you can line up single high or deep half and the rotate down to play off man over the slot. They can play some more of that inverted cover 2 they tried but kept blowing. Ability to disguise coverages - got to love that.

Quan was one of those players apparently that NFL scouts were higer on that the draft media.  McGinn's scouts had him high, too.

With some exceptions, just listened to Greg Cosell talked about him, loves Martin, loves the pick.  Logan Paulsen said he was his top want when 47 came up.  Chris Sims loved him.
