Biden/Harris Legislative/Policy Discussions - Now with a Republican House starting 2023

I’d enjoy the infight here - because man they’re going beyond what we normally see - if things weren’t so messed up right now.

but yeah - they’ve gone public with this fight. Should be fun. They’re threatening his future in WVA (presumably because that’s his excuse for doing what he’s doing) and honestly I don’t see how he pulls this out at this point. His chances were dicey before according to many. Now he’s going to be eviscerate by the Dems, while torpedoing Biden’s presidency, and he’s not a trump-Republican so I imagine the gop isn’t going to bail him out (whereas before trump I think that’s the obvious move)

When you put it that way….

Totally a d-bag move to go on Sunday talk shows to announce you aren’t going to support a bill while giving almost zero warning to your supposed allies.

I think Manchin, being an idiot, as you point out has been sniffing the glue. He has been reading the reports about how much power he has, he views himself as middle of the road. A Democrat with conservative views. He needs to “make a move” that makes him a household name and announce to the country is ability to weld power.

I think he is under some delusion that he might be able to transform this squabble with a “failed” president into a presidential run at the whitehouse.

I don’t think the Dems can touch Manchin honestly. If he drops from the party and runs Repub he probably gets more votes just cause screw the Dems.

I like seeing them threatening him though. Give him the blues. He deserves it and it feels good. Plus there may be some political benefit to making him the bad guy especially if nothing gets done. Also he’s a douche.

WASHINGTON — President Biden will announce new steps on Tuesday to confront a staggering surge in coronavirus cases, including readying 1,000 military medical professionals to help at overburdened hospitals, setting up new federal testing sites, deploying hundreds of federal vaccinators and buying 500 million rapid tests to distribute free to the public.

The measures, outlined to reporters Monday night by two senior administration officials who spoke on condition of anonymity, come as coronavirus caseloads are rapidly rising around the country, particularly in the Northeast, fueled by the highly infectious new Omicron variant — just as Americans prepare to gather for Christmas.

The 500 million tests that the administration intends to purchase will not be available until January, the senior officials said, adding that the government intends to create a website where people can request that tests be sent to their homes, free of charge. It was not immediately clear where the tests would come from.

The plan for new federal testing sites will debut in New York City, where several new sites will be running before Christmas. And Mr. Biden intends to invoke the Defense Production Act, officials said, to accelerate production of tests.

Democrats set to play hardball with Manchin

Senate Democrats are signaling they plan to take more of a hardball approach to pressuring Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) to support their climate and social spending agenda after months of kid-glove treatment failed to deliver his vote.

Democrats are threatening to drive a wedge between Manchin and his many lower-income constituents who stand to reap billions of dollars in federal benefits if Build Back Better passes, including an enhanced child tax credit, lower Medicare-negotiated prescription drug prices and subsidies to cover the cost of child care.

Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) on Monday said Manchin will have to repeatedly defend his opposition to these popular programs by voting on the floor and took a subtle shot at his colleague for trying to dictate national policy through an appearance on “Fox News Sunday” over the weekend.

Democratic aides say that Manchin can expect more tough treatment from Schumer and other Democratic lawmakers who are now under new pressure from the party’s base for failing to deliver on the “big, bold” agenda they promised earlier this year.

“He has had absolutely no pressure,” said one Democratic aide, citing Manchin’s friendly meetings with the at the White House and at Biden’s home in Delaware this fall that failed to produce results.

“Biden’s got to grab him by the lapels and say, ‘Listen, this ends now,’ ” the aide added, warning there’s little prospect of passing another piece of major legislation before the 2022 midterms if Build Back Better fails to pass.

Democratic senators have said for months they were reluctant to apply too much pressure on Manchin for fear that it might backfire and only goad him to dig in his heels more firmly against progressive priorities such as major new investments for renewable energy and expanded Medicare benefits.

I hope they put it to a vote next month anyway. Make him do it. Put as much pressure as they can on him until that date and give him the option to reconsider over the holidays and be the "good guy" in the end.

I saw Shumer stating they would do exactly that. There will be a formal vote so that members can discuss thier issues on the floor of the Senate instead of in the media. He better not back down.

Biden is getting played now refusing to talk bad about Manchin and saying he is confident a deal will be reached. Manchin is laughing his ass off while he drags this out another year for nothing

Joe is doing what his donors and his gop masters have told him to do. Drag it out until the gop wins control; so it be dead and buried forever.

I'm having a hard time understanding why Biden and company are so surprised by Manchin's stance on the BBB bill. What did they think (actually their lack of thought) was going to happen when Biden campaigned as a moderate and now less than a year into his presidency they have socialist kook Bernie Sanders writing policy that's supposed to be beneficial to Americans?

Out infrastructure is lagging behind and falling apart. And I’ve never met anyone who disagrees with that, or disagrees with the idea that we should fix that problem.

Make it Joe Biden’s administration and the democrats that want to pass the bill, and a solid 45% of the country screams socialism.

the last five years have made a solid case that most people aren’t responsible enough to vote.

The infrastructure bill has already been passed and signed by the president

Ok, I'll bite. How is the BBB not beneficial to Americans?

It's a socialist spending bill heavily influenced by Bernie Sanders and the progressive democrats that initiates a lot of spending for programs that don't make money but rather give out more handouts. If it was balanced out more in a bipartisan fashion there could be room for some of these things

How is that even achievable since everything the democrats have been proposing for decades is viewed by conservatives as destructive to our society?

Hell you just referred to their plan as a socialist spending bill and the man who allegedly wrote it a socialist kook. 🤣

It always seems like a miracle when the two sides actually agree on something and politicians make progress. In this particular instance I would blame the progressive Democrats for being allowed to have so much influence over the bill.

In the end I think Manchin saved Joe Biden's presidency by not allowing this to pass

What a crock of bull****. Literally ZERO Republicans support BBB yet its all the progressives fault because they're asking for too much?

The progressive democrats have nowhere near the kind of influence you seem to think they do. 🤣

You don’t even know what socialism is. Give specifics instead of empty buzzwords like socialism, Bernie, and handouts.

JFC, you have no idea what you’re even talking about.
