CBSsports.com: Redskins' Cody Latimer arrested on five charges in Colorado, including illegal discharge of a firearm

Dunbar, Baker, Latimer and now Oliver. No NFL player with an R at the end of their last name is safe from the law.

At this rate, the NFL is going to need to have another draft to replenish the rosters.

I don't want a roster spot utilized for just a decent kick returner when they could use that spot for a developmental young receiver.

Well, if you look at some of the greatest returners ever, Dante Hall, Devin Hester, even Brian Mitchell, they were never key weapons in their offenses. Sometimes an elite special teamed is more valuable than a developmental guy. There are a boatload of those guys floating around.

And Mike Nelms and Eddie Brown.  Skins haven't had any luck just sticking JAG's in the spot for quite a while. (James Thrash and Rock Cartwright were at least serviceable.)

But none of the players you mentioned were ever referred to as "decent kick returner".  Those players deserved a roster spot, Latimer did not.

So both Latimer and Dunbar/Baker conflicts were about poker games ?

Apparently the closed casinos are having a big effect on NFL players, and these cases probably do have a connection to corona lockdown.

So, why hasn't he been shown the door yet?

Fair question. I think teams are not so quick to pull the trigger (pun) because in a few instances the charges are dropped or without merit.

See Ruben Foster, Kareem Hunt, Tyreek Hill

That said, this does look bad...

Any number of reasons. Maybe he feels he's innocent. Or even the possibility he is innocent. The charges aren't that serious (though clearly show stupid decisions), so maybe the team feels its not a "cuttable" offense. Maybe the team really, really likes him. Or maybe give it a few hours and he will get cut once the team does its own due diligence.

I think I need to double check the rules of poker. Let's see-

You got to know when to:

Hold 'em

Fold 'em

when to walk away

when to run

Nope. Nothing about guns. Nothing about brandishing. Nothing about firing your pistol. According to the laws Kenny Rogers set down, Latimore has suffered a Gambler fail.

Premature to cut him now until he gets some sort of due process. It looks bad on the team how quickly they’d rather cut a guy than give him an opportunity to prove innocence. I’m sure that sort of loyalty goes a long wya in terms of luring future free agents.

Let due process play out. Probably be able to reclaim bonus money/waive any guarntees which they could not if they just cut him now. He may be innocent when all is said and done (I know I know).

Some rich players will try to pay off witnesses so that some of the charges can be dropped.  For example, Dunbar's attorney claiming he has 5 witnesses the day after the incident happened who now say Dunbar was an angel that night most likely have been "encouraged" to change their eyewitness account of what happened.  The NFL teams wait to see what can be done without their direct involvement.  Riverboat Ron needs to send a message by not waiting to cut him.  He will have plenty of receivers in camp.
