kinda interesting thread

pop density and mass transit in the NYC area might make a big difference, as well as the late effort at mitigation.

of course the testing level difference might be giving a false impression

of 522k tests nationwide, NY has 122k of them.  So NY alone accounts for 20%~ of the tests.  CA has tested 20k.

So yeah.  This guy’s misleading people.

The quarantine situation isn’t because covid is as widespread everywhere as it is in NYC, it’s because if we ignore it for two more weeks it will be.

Take my county for instance. Rural community of 12k residents spread out over nearly 500 square miles. We’ve only got 4 confirmed cases total right now. We’d probably be a “green” county under Trump’s open stuff back up policies. But we went from 0 to 4 confirmed cases in the past 48 hours. That’s telling me there *could* be some significant community spread occurring for the past two weeks and we’re just now getting case counts catching up to it. Under the doubling model we’ve seen in every other location we’ve seen covid take off, we’d be two to three weeks away from hundreds of cases among our small population IF we did no social distancing.

This is a tough virus to track and contain. You’ve got to overreact to every isolated outbreak or it’ll get away from you in the blink of an eye.

We are completely failing on a national level.

11 states with over 1500 cases.  China had only two provinces meet that number.

And it's EARLY.

Well Trump has something he can be proud of now and can claim he helped the US be the greatest at.  The US how has more confirmed coronavirus cases that any other country in the world.  WE'RE #1!  WE'RE #1!  :815:

How many tests to China do?

Looks like China may have had a lot of false negatives...

I know the numbers are off, but what astounds me is the number of "recovered" patients.  The US, China and Italy each have more than 80,000 confirmed cases, yet China has more than 60,000 recovered, Italy more than 10,000 recovered and the US has fewer than 1,000 recovered.

We're just not tracking the recovered cases
