We’re still doing this?  Absolutely!  Despite all the compelling reasons to just let everyone go home and enjoy and extended offseason, this is not an option.  The games must be played, and therefore we the long-suffering fans will feel compelled to watch.  Even games no reasonable football fan would choose to watch like, for example, today’s Redskins Jets game.

Today’s convergence of sadness features the 30th ranked scoring offense (Jets 14.4 ppg) versus the 32nd (Redskins 12.0 ppg).  The first team to 15 wins!  With no playoff aspirations the compelling story lines for this game are largely limited to watching young players (hopefully) develop.  Dwayne Haskins gets his first home start and Derrius Guice is back from injury.

My, reasonable, goals for today’s game:
      1- Score a touchdown
2- Score more than 17 points.
3- Haskins throws for 200 yards or more with no interceptions
4- Guice runs the ball at least 10 times and finishes at 3.5 yards per carry and healthy.

Hoping for a win at this point feels like setting myself up for disappointment, so I’m happy to settle for an entertaining loss.

Special thanks to @pez for some excellent Guinness beef stew.  If you absolutely have to stand in a frozen parking lot at 9am, the best place to do it is at the Extremeskins Tailgate with Pez and @Huly.  Great fans, great people.

The Redskins have declared for the following players as inactive:
      Paul Richardson
      Colt McCoy
      Deshazor Everett
      Chris Thompson
      Ross Pierschbacher
      Vernon Davis
      Tim Settle

The Jets declared the following players as inactive
      Nate Hairston
      Darryl Roberts
      Paul Worrilow
      Matthias Farley
      CJ Mosley
      Jordan Willis
      Leo Koloamatangi

      1st Quarter - Redskins 0 - 6 Jets
If you wanted to sit in the cold and watch a football game with some Jets fans at FedEx, but were worried that there were not enough seats available, I have good news.  There’s plenty of space available, so come on down and prove you’re a real fan by sitting though this in person.

Jets dominated the 1st quarter even though they only scored 6 points.  The reason being that Washington managed only 13 yards of offense and a single first down.

Question: Is it still a check down pass if the QB never looks at anyone else?

      2nd Quarter - Redskins 3 - 20 Jets
The Jets have achieved an insurmountable 13 point lead early in the 2nd quarter.  All hope is lost.

Is there a more perfect example of the Redskins offense than their first scoring drive in the 2nd quarter?  Interception gives the Redskins the ball on the Jets 16 yard line.  They proceed to march 10 yards backwards before kicking a field goal from the Jets 26.  It's perfect.  Two or three more field goals we can call it a day.

The Jets score again and if feels like they are are just piling on at this point.  Three touchdowns in the first half for them, just three points for the redskins.  Our streak of no touchdowns has now extended to 15 quarters.

      3rd Quarter - Redskins 3 - 20 Jets
There is a spider slowly descending from the ceiling in the press box and it's the most interesting thing that's happened during the third quarter of this game.

I have decided to allow the spider to live, provided it does not touch me.  I'm off to get some more caffeine.

      4th Quarter - Redskins 17 - 34 Jets
The first wave of Redskins fans, the few that are here, started streaming towards the exits after that 4th Jets touchdown.  As if the Jets didn't have this game wrapped up in the 2nd quarter.

Jet have now more than doubled their average points per game and have matched their season high of 34 points (and they missed two field goals in this game).

TOUCHDOWN REDSKINS!  THE DROUGHT IT OVER!  Guice took a short pass from Haskins  all the way to the house.  2 point conversion is successful on a pass from Haskins to Quinn.

The Redskins score another touchdown!  This feels like an embarrassment of riches, even if we are still certain to lose this game.

      End of Game.

Let's review those reasonable goals I mentioned earlier:

      1- Success.
2- Close enough, I'm counting it
3- Haskins did throw for over 200, but unfortunately did have an interception.
4- Guice was not given the opportunity to run the ball ten times today.  He did however score on a 45 yard TD pass and finish the game healthy.  I'll take it.

Even though the Redskins lost, it was good to see the offense show some faint signs of life and end the streak of games without a TD.  The team looked competitive for much of the second half, and perhaps they could have made this a fun game if they carried that same energy throughout.  It was good to see Guice and Mclaurin show out today.  I think both of them have a future with this team that I look forward to seeing.

I Fear Bruce Is Here Until Stadium Deal Is Done..

Recommended Posts

After seeing the crowd at the Boys, Bears & yesterday’s game a new stadium would be the worse thing that could happen to this fan base .

Im 1 of the stupid people that continue to renew my season tickets  (sorry but being a skins fan is all I know) shoot I couldn’t even sell my Bears tickets for way below face value ....

if and when a new Stadium deal is struck you know darn well that Synder will put those PSL’s in place and the regular everyday blue collar worker will be priced out so what we have seen here lately as far as fans of opposing teams taking over it will be twice as bad imho when a new stadium comes calling

hopefully that doesn’t get done or if and when it does Allen is gone from the FO

But I’m sure your right and that’s the truth and it will happen

Snyder sees the new stadium as a huge cash cow that he can pass down to his son for generational wealth.   DC officials would be stupid to let him build a stadium there.

He will sell if he cannot build in DC, MD, or VA.  Even if fans boycott and do not go to the new stadium he will still make profit from tv revenue.  He wins as long as he

can get it built.  He can do concerts and other activities in the off season.   He will profit big time.    He does not care if half the fan base checks out on him.  He can raise

beer, hot dog, parking prices etc. for the die hard fans and out of state fans and opposing fans who do show up.

I have no doubt that you are on the mark with this...but kind of flies in the face of the constant stuff that Dan just wants to win so bad. Thankfully I wised up to that farce a long time ago and am simply indifferent to the team these days. Not so long ago I had the passion for the team as much as anyone but now I check in on the soap opera here and there and then check back out when I see its the same ole stuff. The game day experience at FedEx Field confirms that I am not alone in my sentiment.

Snyder didn't build FedEx, which happened under Jack Kent Cooke after he became frustrated trying to build in DC.

I think Maryland really wanted the stadium built there at that time and location, because they were loosing Capital Centre

at the rate we are going I don't think DC,VA or MD will want to give land to the Redskins to build a new stadium if only opposing fans will be going to it.   Soon it will be "We are here in lovely West Virgnia not "far" from our Nations Capital.......

Heard a credible rumor from our "Skins guy" at my office in Sterling today that Bruce is trying to put his house on the market. He's been right about stuff in the past. Here's hoping.

Also, not a penny of taxpayer money for a stadium. Football won't exist like it does today in 20-25 years, I can't think of a worse "investment" for a municipality to make.

I seriously doubt it,the dummy could be a minority owner without making idiotic personnel decisions. The FedEx guy owns part of the team and doesn't do ****.

Well, there's this theory....

I heard that on Galdi's show this morning too. Makes sense. But I still have to wonder what connections Allen has that Snyder doesn't already. Do they really believe people are 'pining' for the good ol' days when his dad coached the team? He left the Skins 41 years ago in 1978. His brother is no longer in politics, and they've made NO progress on getting a stadium deal in MD, DC, or VA. What exactly do they think will change over the next 7 years??

I disagree with others who say Dan will sell if he can't get a stadium built. How many NFL owners have done that? None, they all moved their teams. Say hello to the Oakland/San Diego/St Louis/San Antonio/London Redskins.

Dan wouldn't move the team.

He'd be a lunatic to abandon the DMV market space.

I'd love it if Snyder packed up and left for San Diego, he could park his yacht at the marina and be some other cities problem and DC would get an expansion franchise!

I'd help him load the truck for free.  Screw my bad back and back surgery last summer, I'm going carry boxes for the team!

Actually, the RFK site might be the best site, after all, given the attendance patterns at FedEx Field the last several years.  Look at the Los Angeles Chargers, playing in tiny StubHub Center.  This might be where the NFL is headed.

Losing the team ala Sterling. I've never seen a GM with such a bad record, blatantly lying so much in front of the medias, disrespecting the fans like that, and still be in charge after a decade. We're the only team to play 16 away games in a season, this jerk beats Vinny in all categories. He's bullet proof, and acts like he"s the owner.

The stadium connection is overblown. Snyder kept Vinny for years, too, simply because Dan liked having him around.

Dan doesn't need to hand the keys of his organization to the brother of a former senator who hasn't seen office in 12 years. Snyder owns a professional football team, the local politicians would flock to him regardless. As an example, Muriel Bowser is practically begging him to bring the Redskins back to D.C. -- he doesn't need Bruce to cultivate any relationship with her. The governors of both Maryland and Virginia have lobbied their interest to Snyder. Why the F does he need Bruce? To help navigate him through the treacherous arena that is Washington politics? Did Jerry Jones or Zygi Wilf have to make Kay Hutchison or Amy klobuchar's ****ing dumb*** brother the team president to get their new stadiums up??? Why is Bruce really here???

I was going to post something like this, but this said it better.

I just want to reiterate the last sentence. "Why is Bruce really here???" like really, WHY IS BRUCE REALLY HERE???

Serving up celebration drinks for the fans post game, but I can't tell based on this picture if they are Pats, Bears or Boys fans.  No way that they are Skins fans because at least some of them would either be trying to kill or beat the crap out of Snyder.

That picture is from the London game a few years ago. No way in hell he opens himself to the public in the DMV area, he'd be eaten alive

@Skinsinparadise has been following this much closer than I. So he may very well correct me. But from what I have seen is that what you posted is not exactly accurate. In fact DC would require a name change and there is no negotiating on that. So unless Dan changes the name not in DC. Also, I saw several reports that while MD would like the stadium and have worked some to get land next to the casino near Oxen Hill, Gov Hogan has stated emphatically that he will not support any tax payer %s to be used for a "billionaires" stadium. I am honestly not sure about VA. They may be the only left standing. Bidding against themselves does not bode well for the Redskins.

My point is i do not think there is a widespread clamoring for a new stadium that many think there is.

Where I do agree is why Bruce? He is about as useless and even a negative as i have seen. Not sure why dan sees him as anything positive at this point.

You never know, who could have predicted what Don Sterling did and who betrayed him ?;)

Well, just pure speculation on my behalf.

The Governor of Maryland at least publicly said he is out.  The current governor of Virginia supposedly has no interest.  The previous Governor was hopped up about wanting it but Bruce-Dan failed to capitalize on that timing which has been a theme thus far.   The interior secretary in the US government was an ally and was poised to help push the federal government to essentially pass a waiver so DC can build commercial property around the RFK site -- but he is gone, too.  They supposedly put all the eggs in the baskets of Republicans in Congress but didn't capitalize on it quick enough and scrambled in late 2018 when the Democrats took over when they tried to get an amendment in the budget to get that waiver.  But they didn't pass it.

Liz Clark who has followed all of this for the WP has said they are in trouble.  Ditto Rick Snide who is the other guy that seems to be following closely.  JP Finlay though thinks they are close but hasn't giving any detail on it.  So I don't know.  Bruce said months ago that it will be a year before they have an announcement.

From what I've personally witnessed in South Florida including working with someone who was pushing for a stadium -- its not easy to do.   The public isn't easy to sell and they typically needs to be sold.   Usually though there is a public money aspect to this that makes the sell even more difficult.  I don't know if Dan is volunteering to shoulder the whole expense himself.  If so, it might be a bit easier.

As for Dan not needing Bruce.  Well he seems to need Bruce to do everything short of tying his shoes every morning.  If you haven't been around the block politically, Bruce probably looks like a genius to him because thanks to his brother he can probably get just about any politician on the phone and can explain the sausage as to how things get passed politically - which I'd bet Dan has no idea about it.

And yeah stadiums these days at least don't typically get passed organically without almost no effort from the parities that want it where the politicians just take over it for them and make it happen.  There is a reason why from what I've seen most owners hire expensive lobbyists to work it for them.  It's good that Bowser wants it but it's unlikely she's going to single handily just make it happen for them.

JP Finlay recently said Bruce is here for sure until the stadium is done.  The WP reporters, ditto.  ditto Loverro.  Will see,
