Greg Manusky Why Isn't He Fired Yet?

You don't fire him for anyone on staff.  DBs aren't looking good so Horton is out.  Rob Ryan's last two jobs as DC were disastrous.  Thomsula almost quit after this year.  I don't think he's interested in putting in the time a DC would have to put in.  So, you're talking about getting someone off the street.  Who would that be?  The list isn't very long or attractive.  And you have to consider the defense is banged up and you have to deal with the Dan Snyder circus.  (Which I'll admit seems better but he needs a couple more stable years before he gets the benefit of the doubt).

He's tied in with gruden. If he goes gruden is away once the pats stick 50 up.

Norman said in locker room, "Any QB can sit back and do whatever they want when there is no pass rush"  True story.

Sounds like Norman is on the road to getting Swearingered. He should stick to the safe stuff and just call out the fans.

WTF, you absolutely fire Manusky.  They got rid of players on defense for speaking against him.  That unit is defeated.  Doesn't matter what Rob Ryan and Horton's units are doing.  Those problems persisted before they got here.  Jay can't go status quo.  He's got to try and shack it up.

The lack of pressure on quarterbacks these past two weeks has been frustrating given the investment on the line and linebackers in Gruden's tenure. Seems on the first couple of drives they get something going, then it straight up vanishes.

Yeah, the secondary isn't great, I get that. But the combination of no pressure, big cushions and soft coverage is like a dream to opposing teams. Brady will feast on that like he did in 2007. It gets to the point where if you're just going to casually escort the other team down field for five or more drives a game with that strategy then switching to playing high risk blitz-heavy isn't going to result in a worse outcome.

At least we don't face the Chiefs this year 😞

I hate this labeling of coaches....

You probably already know what triggers me.

Everyone assuming Manusky has full and complete rein over the defense, and that firing him is a solution.  When we have seen a vast majority of the past 20 years in a bend over and break D. Yes even under Lewis.

Talk about adapting, Jay should take control of the team and force Manusky to adapt if firing him is out of the question.

Easy solution: Replace them all, and Allen, and let whoever is hired as GM run the team free of interference per NFL mandate.

no one wake me up.

At the same time, I'd play a little bit of the Devil's advocate on here, but what do you think you'll be able to get from a guy that at the end of last offseason you spend time trying to replace, interviewing big name coaches like Gregg Williams or Todd Bowles while the guy was still under contract?

OK our D doesn't look good at all that's for sure. But I'm not gonna blame him for not being able to motivate anyone. Our FO played it badly last offseason by not firing him while trying to replace him.

Everyone in Redskins Park, including players knows that he's not wanted around and that he has no credibility anymore.

The best thing that can happen to Manusky now is to be fired, because he's probably tired of all of this.

I'd bet that Jay Gruden also can't wait for the season to be over and get the hell out of here too.

I can understand your point, to a degree, but when it comes down to it, it boils down to a matter of pride. Manusky should be enough of a professional, regardless of whether or not his employer is looking to replace him, to do the best job he can. This applies to most every person at any job at any level, unless the person is so self-centered that they believe they are right and everyone else is wrong.

Yes, the FO blows dog, absolutely no question about that; I doubt there is a single Redskin fan who wants to keep Bruce Allen; we all hope { it could be just me } he would get caught with an infected prostitute and just disappear off the face of the earth, but until someone can get through to Napoleon that Bruce is cancer, nothing will change.

Gruden I have mixed emotions about; on one hand he seems to keep defenses off kilter for the 1st half but doesn't do a good job in the 2nd.

This is what perplexes me the most. No matter who they bring in to coach, sooner or later it reverts to the mean. The more things change the more they stay the same.

This guy is giving Barry a run for his money.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but have things only gotten worse since Haslett left? If so that is horrific and depressing.

And every offseason the defense gasses themselves up like they're gonna be studs

Its kind of crazy. We are the opposite of everything we ever learned.

Teams used to go to prevent with a big lead or a late lead, and fans were positive it would lose the game. Prevent wins.

We go prevent, when we are losing. It's basically a long slow dagger into ourselves. When its time to step up and force a quick 3 and out, we are playing soft as silk rushing 4 in their lanes to contain over and over. Every OC knows what is coming and its just too easy to game plan for us.

When we blitz we shock no one, and bring 5. Welp with 5 OL seeing no deception ever attempted, taking on our 5 is simple.  Payne a few plays a game, aside.

I think the NFL has more bend but don't break defensive coaches, otherwise the ones who don't do that wouldn't get noticed so much.  And in fact the NFL encourages that since high scoring games are more popular than low scoring

The problem is the D-Line.  They went from having 5 good interior linemen (Allen, Payne, Ioannides, Settle, and Brantley) to just 3.  Now you're minus two in Allen and Brantley.  So, instead of a five man rotation where the subs are good you're down to 3 players playing almost the whole game because you're bringing in a JAG to sub in.  So they wear down in the second half.  Once they start getting beat then the LB's are getting blocked by Guards and you have these gaping holes up the middle.

If our DB's weren't so banged up you could play man and send more pressure.  Send Collins on some stunts.  But they're so banged up and have been victimized on the long passes two weeks in a row that they're freaked out about playing anybody tight.

Kdawg may disagree but with only 3 good interior DL I'd go to a 43 or just stay in nickel.  If you stay in the 4-2-5 (which they are in for most of the game) then make JHC the fifth DB to help vs the run.  If they go 43 then make Anderson the Sam (strong side backer) and keep Holcomb as the Will (weakside) with Bostic in the middle.  Put Kerrigan and Sweat on the line in either scheme and maybe even use the wide 9 that Philly has so much success with.

Too often this staff wants to mold the foot to fit the shoe!

We don't play the Chiefs but the Pats got AB and he looks really good :(

Barry’s 2016 defense was the worst 3rd and long defense in NFL history.

The last 2 years under Manusky have been better than that but not good.

This year?  Looking eerily similar to 2016.

He said he didn't think it was time to panic with the defensive staff

Incredible run of incompetence. But you could say that about the entirety of the last 20 years.

Yes but just look at our last three D coordinators.  They have all been trash. If the Skins want to fix this they have to pay someone and not pull the Bruce Allen bargain basement routine.  It has to be a guy who can come in and really coach and actually help improve young players that we draft.
