Cooked Crack
Quote Stallman commented on the news of Epstein at length on his personal site. In April of this year, the programmer wrote of one story, “I disagree with some of what the article says about Epstein. Epstein is not, apparently, a pedophile, since the people he raped seem to have all been postpuberal.” He preferred to call Epstein a “serial rapist.” Quote 06 April 2006 ( DHS spokesman sex scandal? ) Many Americans would see a scandal in the DHS spokesman who has been arrested for proposing sex to a 14-year-old girl through the Internet. I too see a scandal, but not the same one. I think the scandal is that this man is going to face a prison sentence when he has not done wrong to anyone. Sometimes adults are in a position of power over teenagers (or even children) and use that power to pressure them into sex. That is wrong because it is coercion. Sometimes they manipulate or trick inexperienced people into sex they didn't want. That's not right because it is not honest. But this man seems to have done none of those things. He was chatting with a stranger, clearly not dependent on him in any way. The report gives no reason to think he was pressuring or tricking her. For all we can tell, he was making an honest request. Supposing his interlocutor had been a real girl, if she had not wanted to have sex with him, she would have had no trouble saying "no thanks". And supposing she had voluntarily had sex with him, presuming that they used a condom and suitable contraception, it would have done no harm to either of them. Quote 04 January 2013 (Pedophilia) There is little evidence to justify the widespread assumption that willing participation in pedophilia hurts children. Granted, children may not dare say no to an older relative, or may not realize they could say no; in that case, even if they do not overtly object, the relationship may still feel imposed to them. That's not willing participation, it's imposed participation, a different issue. Come on, bruv. Bad tweet aside this guy is suspect. He's defending Epstein's rights to have relationships as long as no one was coerced. I'm glad he's now caught up to knowing relationships with kids are bad but sometimes our heroes are asshole. His argument about this other guy is that he doesn't like the word assault even though it's still statutory rape.

Llevron
This probably qualifies me a naive, but I never thought -- outside of the religious community -- pedophilia was really such a big problem in the US. I had assumed we had evolved past that with our understanding of how early childhood development worked by the time I was born. Now that I type it out it sounds stupid to think we would let science stop us. But I thought that was a 3rd world country thing, really. It always sounded like a foreign problem. The one thing I can say Trump has done for me is show me how nasty we really can be here. (Also this is not intended as a slight at the religious community. I just grew up when pedophiles and Catholics where in the news all the time and so my opinion was formed on that. Thankfully I dont have any first hand knowledge at all so thats what I knew about. Even then I dont think its about religion, but about the type of people who can be manipulated through it that relates the too)
Renegade7
@Llevron digital forensics has one of the highest burnout out and suicide rates of any profession, and big reason reason they cited is the amount of kiddie porn they have to go through, talling to people convinced me not to go in that direction. Church isnt running the servers this stuff comes from. This is maybe as close as the general public has come to realizing how deep this really goes, key word general public, because hes already been to jail once for this and I dont remember nearly this type of reaction, maybe because this time he killed himself to keep from being used to see how deep this really went? Child sex abuse is past being a problem, it's an industry. I dont know if society is in denial or jus doesnt know how to process it yet.

I really think its because Trump and Clinton are involved. Trump is the news, in 2019. And his named linked with pedophilia and the fact that most of the planet hates him makes this a story. The fact dude killed himself makes it even more 'entertaining" and the news media is not above using that to their advantage. The fact that Clinton is involed grabs the attention of those not interested in Trumps involvement, I would assume. Hell now that I think about it....Trump and Clinton in the same controversy is how we got here in the first place. Its no wonder in that context. 2 minutes ago, Renegade7 said: Child sex abuse is past being a problem, it's an industry. I dont know if society is in denial or jus doesnt know how to process it yet. Hell now that I think about it....Trump and Clinton in the same controversy is how we got here in the first place. Its no wonder in that context. I think, depending on a person's political affiliation, they're hoping that one or the other is involved. As time goes on here, I'm starting to think it's less and less likely. As a matter of fact, I'm starting to think it's less and less likely that anyone is going to get in trouble here. As I've said before, they haven't brought in Ghislaine Maxwell, she was a big part of this...she recruited, she enabled, she helped run the show. And if they're not arresting her or even questioning her....well, chances are not much else is going to happen to anyone else. I'd love to be wrong and I hope that I am. In sales, there's a saying...time kills all deals. If you can't close a deal in an efficient, timely manner and it drags on and time passes, you're just waiting for someone or something to come in and **** it all up. It allows for too many variables to happen. In this case, IMO, time passing allows for people, influencers to come in and be bought, paid off, evidence to disappear, be mishandled, lost...whatever. I mean, look what happened to Epstein in the first place, he died because he was either murdered or allowed to sit and think about what was going to happen to him so he took himself out. I do believe law enforcement was acting as quickly as they could but did they get to sit down with him and have him start naming names? Did they get the chance to see exactly how far the rabbit hole went? Doesn't seem like it. Time passed and either he was taken out before he could talk or he thought enough about suicide to get up enough gumption to go through with it.

The Evil Genius
It's going to be more common, I think. Mainly because it's easy to trade but also because it's getting caught/reported on with more frequency. Case in point.

This pedophilia thing goes much deeper and with global reach than ever you can imagine. It's history going back decades. This Epstein thing is the very small tip of the iceberg. The articles themselves are long, it took me hours to read them all.

Larry
Pretty sure "attack" or "try to smear" is a more accurate word than "counter". But just a hunch.
