Charlotte may depend on how much lobbying the banking industry does against Democrats, but my hope is that the electorate does some research on how we're getting screwed by unfettered capitalism. I keep thinking that having the Dems get behind some common sense consumer protection laws might really help them appeal to some of the folks who aren't swayed by "the government will completely take over health care". Some of the ideas I'd love to see: 1) Any contract for, say, cell phone coverage or cable TV, that requires the consumer to sign a contract for (X time), must also guarantee the consumer that his price won't change for the length of that contract. No more "you're locked into this contract for two years, but we're allowed to change our end any time we feel like." 2) The government will at least make an effort to really reduce telemarketers. Starting, I suggest, with the ones that are outright frauds. Rachael from cardmember services. Windows technical support. Your Google business listing. Somewhere on the list, but maybe lower, would be "We're calling from Medicare to tell you about your eligibility for pain relieving knee braces." These aren't big grand issues like nationalizing health care. But I assert that a lot of voters are nervous about big grand government programs. But everybody hates telemarketers. They hate having to not answer their own phone unless someone leaves voice mail. And, every time one of those voters gets a telemarketer call? It's an advertisement to Vote Dem. Jumbo Posted November 15, 2019 Share Posted November 15, 2019 while i have plenty to criticize in kamala and corey and was disappointed in their performance so far---substance and style---they were early "on paper" faves of mine and i wouldn't mind seeing them make a comeback and i'd be hoping to see some more depth and detail on policy, esp. int'l/trade i liked pete, but thought him too raw/green/developing in key ways to be solid final choice...sorry though to see him apparently flame out in such a manner over such an important issue if this turns out to be what it says warren grew on me a lot more this last year, and i keep hoping if she's the eventual nominee that it works out, but consider it unlikely..i do see strategies where she could if she's willing to flex...but then even if she would adjust things a bit more center, her base would get mad maybe....and even now i can not confidently choose which premise is most likely to be true between "go big left with the nominee/platform to excite voter turnout" vs "tack center/moderate to get needed coalitions in key states for electoral college"...i know solid arguments and quality supporting data exists for each....my take is up in the air on that amy was ok at first but to me she's seemed really disappointing "live"...not on top of the material and smooth/collected like during the cavanaugh or other senate hearings i've seen her in.. ...oddly unsure in demeanor during her media appearances...i don't think it's misogyny-tinted on my end but i'd just say she often comes off as "beggy" and needy/somewhat desperate, with shaky voice and gestures (again, more than in pre-candidacy appearances) so i wanna see harris and booker make another serious stab at it and see what they've got down deep, limited resources and all biden holds zero excitement or even any real interest for me, but he doesn't worry me, gaffes and all, aging and slower and all, and i could deal with the idea of the boat just not rocking so much for a couple years as opposed to major revolutionary change...but that's fine too...anything but gopers....once they're extinct i can get the dems to hunt me down for regularly and harshly criticizing them (i try to stick with things that are easy to do---builds my sense of efficacy) Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Warren is definitely the better pick we deserve (to non boomers) that may or may not win. I wonder if a ticket combining the two would end up being attractive to boomers and the more liberal portion of the party? Wish Booker had made more inroads. I'm still on Team Warren (although she's had a rocky couple weeks), firmly so, but Biden reminded audiences of his gravitas, and brought a real sense of moral seriousness to many of his answers. There was no casualness, no sense of entitlement to the nomination. I still expect him to get it, and if he makes a smart veep pick he could annihilate Dump. And figured that America would elect a socialist before they'd elect a gay named "Butt jug". But, the times I saw him on Meet the Press? He looked impressive to me. Seemed to take relatively tough questions, and to actually respond to them. With confidence and the seriousness required. If he could have played this into a bigger job, and spent an election or two holding a clipboard, I wouldn't mind. Wouldn't have minded seeing him as Veep. Rufus T Firefly Posted November 15, 2019 Share Posted November 15, 2019 Every time I see Mayor Pete attacking M4A and making it sound like some radical crazy plan, I just remember 6 months or so ago when he was on twitter angrily going after people who dared to suggest he wasn't fully on board with it. Politically it probably won't cost him much (as least not in the short term), but it really marks him as a disappointing candidate for me personally. I am not in favor of new people entering the Democratic race, especially if they aren't died in the wool Democrats and were something else for most of their lives. I am very suspicious of their motives. We have a big enough field now. If they want to financially support the party after we have a nominee I'm good with that.
