It's only June, but Cowboys have the look of a champion

By Gil Brandt | NFL.com

Fans and media members alike have wondered why Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys have not made many roster moves this offseason. After watching this team go through its recent organized team activities, I now understand.

The bottom line is that this is a very good football team. I have been to five of the Cowboys' recent OTAs, and what I've seen is a very cohesive unit. Nobody is grumbling about contract issues. Nobody is complaining about being worked too hard. There are 20 starters back from a team that went 11-5 and won the NFC East last season. Wade Phillips, entering his fourth season as head coach, has lost 30 pounds - he looks like a different guy out there and you can see his enthusiasm.

Unlock HQ Video HQ video delivered by Akamai After working with different coaches through his first four seasons, quarterback Tony Romo sits to pee is heading into his fourth season with offensive coordinator Jason Garrett. And the comfort level can be seen on the practice field. There are some thin spots - the offensive line in particular cannot afford to suffer any major injuries - but they also have excellent depth at some positions, running back and receiver to name a couple. If third-year back Felix Jones stays healthy, he could have a big year.

Bottom line: This team has the look of a serious Super Bowl contender.

This year's the year! I suppose a few good practices in June = Super Bowl contender.

Wow, an article in the off season about the pukes going to the SB. I don't understand why the author had to write a new article. He could have just changed the date of all the other ones from previous years and posted it as new.

Yeah but this one says that Wade Phillips has lost weight. Anytime your coach loses 30 pounds, you're a lock for the Super Bowl!

3rd toughest schedule in football this year. I do not see this massive improvement between last season and this and I think the schedule will kill them - pray to your blue star that you can win 10.

Not only is their schedule tough, but they also have an extra preseason game (more chances for injury) and a bye as early as Week 4. Unfortunately, I do think Dallas has the best shot at winning the NFC East, but they have a lot of hurdles to jump over to get there.

Summary:

Your head coach losing 30 pounds = championship.

That's unfortunate for us. If our Head Coach loses 30 pounds it would be life-threatening. Looks like Shanny has got to bulk up a bit this year for us to have a chance next year when he loses that weight.

If anyone in the NFC looks SB bound, it's not in the East. Every year Dallas gets hyped. You'd think people would have figured it out by now. They aren't going anywhere.

And maybe they're putting out news that Wade has lost 30 pounds, because they actually fired Wade and have him stuffed in a closet in Jerry's basement, while hiring a guy that looks kind of like Wade but skinnier. If they did that, or hired a real HC and disguised Wade on the sidelines (allowing him to run the defense) then maybe they COULD have a chance at a SB. Wade Phillips = futility.
