Former NAACP official Rachel Dolezal, a white woman who posed as African American for years, is now facing charges of welfare fraud after investigators say she illegally received thousands of dollars in public assistance.

 

At this time, Dolezal had been reporting a monthly income of less than $500, which came from child support payments. She resigned from the NAACP in June 2015 when her parents revealed she was actually white, and claimed that since then she had been unemployed and unable to find work, the Spokesman-Review reported.

When asked how she was paying her living expenses, she was quoted in the documents saying, “Barely! With help from friends and gifts.”

 

But, a review of Dolezal’s self-employment records, which included bank statements, revealed a less dire situation.

In total, between August 2015 and September 2017, Dolezal’s bank statements showed she had deposited nearly $84,000, documents said. Investigators believe the money came from her book, speaking engagements and selling art, soaps and handmade dolls.

She is far more committed to this character then I realized.  Gaming welfare with side hustles and a single mother?  "F" for morality, "A" for effort.

Race-faker Rachel Dolezal to appear in court on welfare fraud charges after claiming she was living off 'a few hundred' dollars a month yet deposited $80,000 during same period

 

The trial date has been set for Rachel Dolezal, the former NAACP leader who pretended to be black before being unmasked as white, and is accused of welfare fraud.

 

The state of Washington's case against Dolezal, who legally changed her name to Nkechi Diallo in 2016, will begin in Spokane on March 4, pursuant to Judge Michelle Szambelan's order from December 31.

 

Dolezal, 41, faces charges under her legal name of theft by welfare fraud, perjury and false verification for public assistance. 

 

Court documents allege she illegally received $8,747 in food assistance and $100 in child care assistance from August 2015 through November 2017.

 

An investigation started in March 2017 when a state investigator received information that she had written her autobiography, In Full Color: Finding My Place in a Black and White World. 

 

Documents say she had deposited nearly $84,000 into her bank account without reporting it.
