ESPN: Colin Kaepernick protests anthem due to treatment of minorities

His right not to vote.  I thought about not voting this year too, but I did.  6 months ago, I was more than 50% sure I wasn't going to vote.

What is pissing me off more now is the networks "all of the sudden" want to show the National Anthem being played before the game so they can continue to make an issue out of who is standing, kneeling or locking arms.  The media is now continuing to push the agenda and it's no longer the players.

Come on FOX, CBS, ESPN and NBC- MOVE ALONG!!!  Let's end it. Enough.

Anyone seeing the reports that Kap didn't bother to vote?  thoughts?

Yes this bothers me. First, the point of the protest was to demand change and one way to affect change is to vote. Sure you may not like any of the candidates presented to you, but write someone in that has your ideals. Second, it is certainly his choice to not vote however there will be many that justifiably will say, "You didn't vote, now shut up."

From USA today. Link won't copy correctly.  And not trying to quote you pj.

I think some people thought Kaep was a little 'not right' in the head. His behavior is just a little odd at times. This isn't going to dissuade that notion.

Excellent example these dimwitts are setting.

Of course they make, at a minimum, 12x the median household income in one year. So they have the luxury of not voting, setting the example of not voting, and being affected very little.

The people they're supposedly protest for? Not so much.

Of course they're too stupid to realize it, or such asshole they don't care.

so hes not voting. and it appears that his kneeling is more than just a protest about his perception of the treatment of the minorities. its apparent that the 'system of oppression' is the constitutional republic the unites states employs.

thoughts?

Once again, I addressed that,” Kaepernick said. “I continue to address it. I don’t agree with the system of oppression and that’s something I will continue to not agree with.”

“I thought a lot of different things about the process -- what I could and couldn’t do,” he said. “But, once again, the system of oppression is what I have an issue with.”

I don't understand how not voting is supposed to help against the system of oppression. Maybe he feels the electoral college is worthless, there are some that have that view. Maybe he would sound better if he voiced that opinion. I supported him in his kneeling all the way up until this, not voting just makes him look ridiculous. He's not helping.

From what he's saying (and going back to what blm is asking for, and it's ties to the black liberation army,  which is anti capitalist/socialist) it seems he's opposed the US government in general and he believes that participating in the election would be tantamount to participating in further oppressing the oppressed.

I think it's obvious to anyone at this point that Kaep did not think this through at all. He simply took a knee to get exposure. His jersey sales have been very high from this move.

After his mind numbing statement that he didn't vote and is against "oppression", he didn't think about how to fix it, didn't think about what to improve on, or who to even back to stop the oppression that he can't even define.

It was done only for the exposure and it worked.  the problem is that now he is still being asked about it and has literally no idea what he's talking about or what he's even backing.  He has been exposed as a fraud and is looking worse after every comment.  Compound that with his terrible football play and he will be out of the league after next year.

So much could have been done from his position and instead he looks like most millennials these days.  Wants to complain but won't do anything about it and hasn't spent a second critically thinking about the issue he supposedly is supporting

I agree with alot of that, but I disagree that he hasn't thought about it. But I understand how it appears that way. Like I said above, I don't think the 'not voting'  was an oversight.

Kaep has aligned himself with an extreme left perspective America which is at odds with capitalism and the fact that this country was founded by white europeans, taken from Native Americans, and employed a system of mostly African slavery.

No matter where we are now, or what we've done, it's irredeemable. It will always be racist and oppressive.

As for Castro and Cuba, a system with which he no doubt sympathizes, despite its obvious flaws and history of its own oppression, that is where BLMs socialist inspiration escaped to and currently lives.

My wife is Chilean and has cousins who constantly rip America on Facebook while praising people like Che Guevara. Despite being born in Chile, they still live here. Very comfortably actually.

It's a hell of a thing.

This quote about sums it up.

http://www.socialism.com/drupal-6.8/articles/who-assata-shakur-and-why-she-fbi-list-top-terrorists

I am a 20th century escaped slave. Because of government persecution, I was left with no other choice than to flee from the political repression, racism and violence that dominate the U.S. government’s policy towards people of color. … Black people, poor people in the U.S. have no real freedom of speech and very little freedom of the press.”

He just wanted to say something about a problem that would be noticed.

As far as America and the press handling the real issue...see below:

i think this is probably all its about, at this point- police treatment of minorities.

any talk about any link between BLM and dictators like castro or black liberation army revolutionaries he harbored -who may have killed 16 police officers in the 70s and 80s- is clearly a right wing diversionary tactic being employed to take the focus away from the real issue.
