2015 #Redskins versus Falcons

10/11/2015

It is my pleasure to welcome to beautiful Atlanta! After a day of dreary rain and nasty weather, the sun is out and the sun is shinning on our beloved Redskins team.

After attending last night’s Redskins Rally and talking to countless fans, the consensus is that there is a feeling of cautious optimism surrounding this game.

At times the Skins have looked like the same old mistake and penalty riddled team that we all have watched year after year. Then at other times they look like the have started to turned the corner with a rushing attack that currently leads the league at 139.5 yards per game. Coupled with a defense that is only giving up 78.0 yards a game, which ranks 2nd in the league.

With the Falcons coming into this game undefeated at 4-0 (3-0 against the NFC East) this should be a great measuring stick to see how far the Redskins have come.

Buckle-up folks, this should be a good one.

First Quarter Recap:

Skins played a nice quarter despite their first drive being killed by a holding penalty. Defense came up with a big turnover as the Falcons were driving. The while most of the first quarter the skins couldn't run the ball, the last drive of the first quarter they started to have success running outside of the tackles. Kirk  has looked comfortable in the pocket with a couple of nice throws.

End of the first 0-0 game.

Halftime:

Boys and girls while it wasn't a perfect half, it was about as good as the Redskins could hope for as again they are ahead at the half.

Kirk Cousins hit Derek Carrier with a 7 yd TD pass in the second quarter.

The Falcons answered with 42 yr FG to cut the lead to 7-3.

The first quarter belonged to the Redskins and the Falcons claimed the second and evened out the time of possession. The Falcons held the ball for the majority of the 2nd quarter after only holding the ball for 5:40 in the first quarter.

Neither team was able to capitalize on turnovers however and the score at the half remains 7-3. Falcons to receive the 2nd half kick off.

Third Quarter Recap:

Well it appears that neither team is really interested in taking over the game. Both teams have missed chances to take control of the game. The Falcons finally made a FG to cut the lead to 7-6. No matter the outcome of the game you have to be impressed that the Skins D has held the high scoring offense in check. Kirk needs to hit his receivers in order to extend the drive. So far he doesn't look sharp in the second half.

Forth Quarter/OT

Well after allowing ATL to drive down and score the winning touchdown with :24 secs left, Kirk Cousins engineered a 3 play scoring drive capped off by a 53 yd FG by Hopkins as time expired to send us to overtime.

Redskins won the toss and received the ball first in OT and gained two first downs before Kirk does the unthinkable and throws a pick 6 on an out route while under pressure. GAME..SET...MATCH

Takeaways

WE learned this isn't the same Redskins team that we have watched over the last few seasons. This team does know how to come back and answer the bell in the late rounds. Much will be talked about Kirks bad decision, however there is more to be impressed with. The good news is the Redskins are on the right path, they are INDEED headed in the right direction.

This team continues to show a lot of heart and hustle. The rest of the season should be fun to watch, at least it will be competitive and entertaining to see.

Well it has been fun, but its time to pack it up and head home, but I go home with a MUCH better feeling about my team than when I left here back in 2013.

I've been posting what I'm expecting, but I allow some (even realistic) hope to be pleasantly surprised. Either way, no meltdown for me no matter what.

Outside of in-the-moment venting (and not of the repeated stupidly over-done drama queen or loudmouth dumbass variety), I'm not really into being around the guys who do the silly angry flailing spaz to excess as a routine, which has always seemed popular with some folks as part of their "sports enjoyment." I like to save that flailing spaz stuff for dates and parties. :D

Now, the long-term depression and life-draining sense of frustration-cum-hopelessness I sure identity with :P   :( and manifest. I reccomend your own living-room knife-throwing board.

FYI

They just finished repainting the field about an hour ago. It still needs a Wet Paint sign on it.

Also, Skins are wearing white jersey, gold pants today. So, no Hulkamania look today.

Roberts is ACTIVE today

We're celebrating my Grandma's birthday today, and going to see a Celtic women's performance.  Unfortunately, it's at 3pm.  I'll be keeping tabs from in the car, but I'll miss the last hour entirely.  Oh well, it's only one week, and worth it.

Hopefully we'll play them tough and win, but even if we lose, if we keep it close, that will be a good omen, playing the 4-0 Falcons close.

Observation: Falcons WR Julio Jones is moving very slowly and gingerly during on-field warm ups. Reports have him at 80% today.

This is your observation?  Because others reporting he is looking great.

I just swapped him out on draft kings hoping he is not 100%.  I hate owning players going against the Skins anyway.
