Some "positive" thinking about Quinn as the HC for the Commanders...

Power of Positivity: Why Quinn Is Considered 'Perfect' Coach For Commanders

The Washington Commanders hired Dan Quinn as the new head coach in hopes that he'll be the man to turn around the struggling franchise, but one trait of his has already become a talking point.

Rather than focus on the negatives of the team's situation, Quinn seems to radiate a positive energy that some have speculated could uplift the locker room and the overall culture of the franchise.

"The team has been so bad, and they hired the most positive person in a long time," NFL Insider Ian Rapoport said. "Dan Quinn has never had a bad day. There’s a lot of reasons why we thought this was a really good fit. He’s an excellent coach, hired a really good staff and is a really good leader. There’s a lot to like, but he is so positive…it is so much better than it was."

There are two types of people in the world: those who see a glass as being half empty and those who see it as half full; based on the statements made at the NFL Combine by Rapoport and his colleagues, Quinn sounds like the latter.

It can become easy to get discouraged by a lack of winning and let that permeate the culture in a locker room with toxic negativity that prevents a franchise from taking steps forward. Luckily, Quinn sounds like a breath of fresh air for a Commanders team that literally had its pipes bursting with waste last season.

Quinn is highly qualified as a former Super Bowl-caliber NFL head coach and a proven terrific defensive mind, but the power of his positivity could be what helps this team grow in the right direction in 2024.

First, though, Quinn and the rest of Washington's front office must identify players at the Combine who share his positive mindset so that he can help coach them from being the second-worst team in the league a season ago to a legitimate playoff contender.<<

It's Combine weekend and Leno was just jettisoned. Oh, they've started.

One could probably say they started back when Young and Sweat were moved out although those were trades and not cuts. I think we are about to see a lot more suitcases being packed too.

Wow, reading about Positive Quin, I almost expect Ted Lasso to pull off his disguise and call Coach onto to the field to work with him.

It’s truly amazing how much the NFL has changed over the last 20 or so years. Everything is so analytical now, and your seeing more and more coaches is the league that have neither ever played the game at any meaningful full level, or smaller college players, that pretty much played knowing they’d want to be a coach.

It’s fascinating that the players are willing to listen to a lot of these guys, seeing how they have never played nowhere near as much ball or ever have nearly as much physical talent. That’s why it’s more and more important that these coaches can relate to these players. The old bill belichek/ Eric bienemy, my way or the highway boot camp coaching is soon to be gone for good.

Every aspect of the game is so technical now, it’s all about play design, spacing, using analytics to decide whether to punt or kick or go for it.

Every single position is getting more and more specialized, and the smashmouth game has really transformed to something totally different. Luckily there are aspects of this game where there will always be a need for smash mouth type of play, and physical domination.

But with the game being as technical as it is and so much so analytical and advance metrics based, and probably more so in the future, I’m hoping that when we do build a new stadium, that it will be completely climate controlled. The game is so technical and analytical now that the weather, throwing an element of chance into your home games, really seems like it could be at a disadvantage.

It’s so exciting that we’ve now got an ownership group, FO, and staff that really look like they will be on the cutting edge on how the best way to run a team is. And with the game becoming more and more specialized that will be a huge benefit to us going forward.

Lance Newmark ran college scouting for the Lions in 2015 and 2016. Looking at his drafts, he drafted three guys who went on to become Pro Bowlers for other teams - Quandre Diggs, Laken Tomlinson and Miles Killebrew. Between those two years, he also drafted Decker, Glasgow and A’Shawn Robinson. He did have a number of misses like any draft and some wtfs like drafting a long snapper in the 6th who got IR’ed as a rookie and then dumped before his second year

Points to solid player selection and poor development and use of players. No wonder why Newmark was able to survive regime after regime in Detroit
