Russian forces suffer radiation sickness after digging trenches and fishing in Chernobyl

Russian troops who dug trenches in Chernobyl forest during their occupation of the area have been struck down with radiation sickness, authorities have confirmed.

Ukrainians living near the nuclear power station that exploded 37 years ago, and choked the surrounding area in radioactive contaminants, warned the Russians when they arrived against setting up camp in the forest.

But the occupiers who, as one resident put it to The Times, “understood the risks” but were “just thick”, installed themselves in the forest, reportedly carved out trenches, fished in the reactor’s cooling channel – flush with catfish – and shot animals, leaving them dead on the roads.

Reactor No 4 at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant exploded on 26 April 1986. It is commonly referred to the world’s worst civil nuclear incident. Scores died as a result and the USSR collapsed less than six years later.

Vladimir Putin’s men reportedly set up camp within a six-mile radius of reactor No 4, and dug defensive positions into the poisonous ground below the surface.

On 1 April, as Ukrainian troops mounted counterattacks from Kyiv, the last of the occupiers withdrew, leaving behind piles of rubbish.

Russian soldiers stationed in the forest have since been struck down with radiation sickness, diplomats have confirmed. Symptoms can start within an hour of exposure and can last for several months, often resulting in death.

Vladimir Putin's Assassination 'Will Bring Bloodbath Break-up of Russia Into Nuclear Mini-states': Ex-CIA Analyst

If Russian President Vladimir Putin is assassinated, the country could descend into chaos, a former CIA analyst said.

Paul Goble said the potential for an assassination of the leader would likely cause Russia to break up into several mini states.

This is all a result of the Russians' disastrous outcome in Ukraine, where more than a year after invading the country is having trouble making progress.

Goble said experts and analysts are now even more "open" to the notion of Russia breaking up into a splintered state, causing the end of the Russian Federation.

The war has caused deterioration in Russia, from its world standing to its internal lack of cohesion.

It has been estimated that the Russian have wasted nearly $19 billion in destroyed equipment and have lost nearly 200,000 troops to fighting.

Goble told The Sun: “What we’re likely to see is something different than the coming apart of the great empires.”

Also, Goble warns that the destruction of the Russian Federation could be a breakup similar to that of Yugoslavia but with nuclear weapons included.

When the Soviet Union was severed in 1991, the countries involved agreed to give up their nuclear weapons, a situation Goble believes would not be the case in this scenario.

“I would argue that this time around the period of decay is going to be messier, longer and vastly more varied than what we had in 1991,” he said.

Hard to disagree, If there was an alternative leader to rally around I wouldn’t think the oligarchy would have rallied around them by now.

Or killed him.

Keep remembering the Clancy book, where the catastrophe that triggers the book is when an Iranian sleeper agent kills Saddam Hussein.

And the book keeps pointing out that "the dictator lifestyle is pretty good, but the retirement plan sucks". And that Saddam had lived as long as he did, by making sure that anybody who could remotely replace him, died.

So called experts make predictions in geopolitics the same way they do in football, as an extension of what happened last year. Just saying Russia would dissolve into warring ministates doesn't really take any imagination or thought, but it fills the page and anymore that's the point, too many people have a vested interest in making predictions. The likely outcome will be something very unlikely, it will follow a path no one saw coming because that's how history goes. The obvious path gets plotted and planned for.

Even if Pooty got whacked and Russia broke up, none of those mini-mes would get sanctions lifted or reclaim markets, there might be a short term round of banditry to loot anything not nailed down but that's not a business model and certainly not a good one.

It's not in anyone best interests to see Russia destroyed, especially not Europe since you can walk there from Russia. A complete collapse would swamp Europe with refugees. This is one of the big "What if?" games me and the old guys like to play, if Russia cracks, what then? No one could rise to power there and get any international support or even the benefit of the doubt while still holding onto their military and isolationist structures. _____________ <insert unpronounceable name here> is not going to magically turn the clock back to before Ukraine, and it is not going to get anyone that fled to return.

Russia is going to have to take a leap out into the unknown and try something different, the old guard old boys networks are the ones that caused this disaster. A Russia humbled, genuinely open to a new path might find a lot of support in the world, but it won't be Exxon or the military or Wall Street that saves them.

Looks like a false flag to me but interesting that Russia would choose to broadcast to the world that their capital is that poorly defended that this is possible.   Gotta think this is a going to be used as a precursor to a major escalation.

Gruelling cat and mouse fight along Ukrainian river poised to escalate | Ukraine | The Guardian

Least accessible of the frontlines, details of the war on the river have emerged from brief snippets from Ukrainian army press officers and Russian military bloggers, as well as material posted on social media channels and accounts supplied by local residents. What is clear is that fighting for the Dnipro delta’s islands, marshes and inlets has been very different from the gruelling battles on the eastern front. Here, combatants have moved in ribs (rigid inflatable boats) with powerful engines.

On Velykyi Potomkin, the biggest island, which sits opposite Kherson’s Ostriv or Island district, Ukrainian troops have been slowly pushing forward, their progress tracked by geolocation.

Once a pleasant spot where people from the city would visit their dachas or go to picnic, the island splits the river into two smaller branches to the immediate west of Kherson, making it a strategically important stepping stone. These days it is a battlefield.

The smaller islands – some of which are no more than specks on the river – matter because they can be used as bases for firing mortars on the city. Every scrap of land is bitterly contested.

For Real: Moscow Police Hunt ‘Ukrainian Saboteur Pigeon’

Police in Moscow were sent on a frantic chase this week for a Ukrainian pigeon supposedly hellbent on dropping explosives on the city.

Russian media reported that an entire squad of police officers responded on Monday after an “alarmed” man phoned to report a “Ukrainian saboteur pigeon.” The man, who said he’d seen the enemy bird “with his own eyes,” claimed it was “painted in the colors of the Ukrainian flag” and clutching a mine in its claws.

Police searched the entire area but found no evidence of any mines, and only “ordinary” pigeons milling about.

That's exactly how a well trained saboteur pigeon operates! Blend back in after the mission is completed

C, B, or R?

I remember reading a few weeks ago that Putin may already have escaped an assassination attempt.

So there is clearly something along those lines that they want to escalate this because they are not raching their goals as of now.

That doesn't look good for anyone out there, even Russians that may get stuck even deeper in that authoritarian government.

Don't know if they'll go full nuclear, but if they do, they'll lose their only friend in China (who may also see that as an opportunity to attack Russia and get back those lands north of China that used to be chinese long time ago...)
