  1. World war 2 was fought almost exclusively in Europe and Asia in part because of what we gave our allies under lend lease. I’d rather arm allies to help them fight our enemies near their home than to have to fight them here and pay for rebuilding U.S cities because we balked at giving aid. What would be the cost to rebuild L.A, S.F, Chicago, D.C or any other major city? Rebuilding just one of those cities would cost far more than it costs us to help Ukraine. Add in the fact that it actually allows us an excuse to restock our stores with newly made weapons while weakening a major enemy and to me it’s a no-brainer.
  2. You guys are really missing the boat on the “name your job name your salary” option. 1) no sickness for the rest of my life. 2) president of my own privately owned research company, paying myself a 1 bil a year. Who cares about 3, but I guess the 100 mil over 40 years and I could use it to fund charity work in Africa or South America.
  3. I said the same thing to someone else earlier.

  5. Reuters: Pakistan launches strikes inside Iran against militant targets Pakistan conducted strikes inside Iran on Thursday, targeting separatist militants, the Pakistani foreign ministry said, two days after Tehran said it attacked Israel-linked militant bases inside Pakistani territory. Iranian media said several missiles hit a village in the Sistan-Baluchistan province that borders Pakistan, killing three women and four children, all non-Iranians. "A number of terrorists were killed during the intelligence-based operation," the Pakistani ministry said in a statement, describing it as a "series of highly coordinated and specifically targeted precision military strikes against terrorist hideouts". It added, "Pakistan fully respects the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Islamic Republic of Iran. …. more at link
  6. This is interesting given the disparity in population and the fact that Pakistan is a nuclear power. AP: Iran attacks alleged militant bases in Pakistan; Islamabad says ‘unprovoked strikes’ kill 2 children. Islamabad (AP) — Iran launched attacks Tuesday in Pakistan targeting what it described as bases for the militant group Jaish al-Adl, potentially further raising tensions in a Middle East already roiled by Israel’s war on Hamas in the Gaza Strip. Pakistan said the strikes killed two children and wounded three others in an assault it described as an “unprovoked violation” of its airspace. Confusion followed the announcement from Iran as state media reports on it soon disappeared. However, the attack inside of nuclear-armed Pakistan by Iran threatens the relations between the two countries, which long have eyed each other with suspicion while maintaining diplomatic relations. The attack also follows Iranian strikes on Iraq and Syria less than a day earlier, as Tehran lashes out following a dual suicide bombing this month claimed by the Sunni militant group Islamic State that killed over 90 people. Iran’s state-run IRNA news agency and state television had said that missiles and drones were used in the strikes in Pakistan. Press TV, the English-language arm of Iranian state television, attributed the attack to Iran’s paramilitary Revolutionary Guard. Jaish al-Adl, or the “Army of Justice,” is a Sunni militant group founded in 2012 which largely operates across the border in Pakistan. The militants have claimed bombings and kidnapped Iranian border police in the past. Iran has fought in border areas against the militants, but a missile-and-drone attack on Pakistan is unprecedented for Iran. Iranian reports described the strikes as happening in the mountains of Pakistan’s Balochistan province. Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry issued a strongly worded rebuke of the strikes.

  9. Master strategist, putin, wins again… Newsweek: US Arms Makers Dominate Top Expo As Russia Fails To Sell U.S. arms makers dominated last week's Dubai Airshow, as Russia failed to report a single sale, with one executive claiming the country had been sidelined from the exhibition's main pavilion. The biennial air show, which is the largest aerospace exhibition in the Middle East, was held between November 13 and 17, and gathered the leading manufacturers of civil and military aircraft. Russian firms including Rostec, United Aircraft Corp and Almaz-Anty, participated. Russia's standing as a global arms exporter has been diminished by Russian President Vladimir Putin's ongoing war in Ukraine, but exports had been declining for a few years prior to the conflict. Data from the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute shows that Russia's share of global arms exports fell from 22 percent from 2013-17 to 16 percent from 2018-22. Russian officials brought with them to the exhibition 250 samples of weapons and equipment, but its state aerospace and defense company Rosoboronexport did not secure a single contract during the event, The Moscow Times reported... ———————————————————————— more at link.
  10. Didn’t know if this should go in the Israel/hamas thread or here. Forgive me if its already there. It’s interesting if it’s true: Newsweek via MSN Israeli Official Issues Warning to Putin on Russian State TV An Israeli politician issued a warning to Russian President Vladimir Putin amid the ongoing wars in Israel and Ukraine. Amir Weitmann, the head of the libertarian caucus in Israel's Likud Party, appeared on Russia's state-run RT News network this week and spoke about fighting between Israel and Hamas militants, as well as Russia's war with Ukraine. While speaking about recent claims relating to al-Ahli Hospital in Gaza City, Weitmann criticized Russia, saying that "we're gonna finish this war, we're going to win because we're stronger. After this, Russia will pay the price, believe me, Russia will pay the price." "Russia is supporting the enemies of Israel. Russia is supporting Nazi people who want to commit genocide on us and Russia will pay the price," Weitmann said. "We're gonna win this war. Afterwards, we're not forgetting what you're doing, we're not forgetting, we will come, we will make sure Ukraine wins. We will make sure that you pay the price for what you have done, you as Russia." … more at link.
  11. Yahoo News Ukraine ‘likely’ behind attack on Wagner forces in Sudan — report Ukrainian special services are likely responsible for a series of strikes on Wagner Groupmercenary forces in Sudan, CNN reported on Sept. 19, citing a Ukrainian source. The attacks occurred two days after the mercenaries delivered a large batch of weapons to Sudan, says the report. A Ukrainian military source described the operation as the work of a "non-Sudanese military". When asked if Ukraine was behind the attacks, the source only responded that "Ukrainian special services were likely responsible." ——————————- russia seriously underestimated Ukraine’s resourcefulness and willingness to punch them in the mouth on whatever front they can manage.
  12. BBC Link A Russian pilot tried to shoot down an RAF surveillance plane after believing he had permission to fire, the BBC has learned. The pilot fired two missiles, the first of which missed rather than malfunctioned as claimed at the time. Russia had claimed the incident last September was caused by a "technical malfunction". The UK's Ministry of Defence (MoD) publicly accepted the Russian explanation. But now three senior Western defence sources with knowledge of the incident have told the BBC that Russian communications intercepted by the RAF RC-135 Rivet Joint aircraft give a very different account from the official version. The RAF plane - with a crew of up to 30 - was flying a surveillance mission over the Black Sea in international airspace on 29 September last year when it encountered two Russian SU-27 fighter jets. The intercepted communications show that one of the Russian pilots thought he had been given permission to target the British aircraft, following an ambiguous command from a Russian ground station. However, the second Russian pilot did not. He remonstrated and swore at his wingman when he fired the first missile. The Rivet Joint is loaded with sensors to intercept communications. The RAF crew would have been able to listen in to the incident which could have resulted in their own deaths. The MoD will not release details of those communications. Responding to these new revelations an MoD spokesperson said: "Our intent has always been to protect the safety of our operations, avoid unnecessary escalation and inform the public and international community." What really happened As the two Russian SU-27s approached the RAF spy plane, they received a communication from their ground station controller. One Western source told the BBC the words they received were to the effect of "you have the target". This ambiguous language was interpreted by one of the Russian pilots as permission to fire. The loose language appears to have shown a high degree of unprofessionalism by those involved, sources said. In contrast, Nato pilots use very precise language when asking for and receiving permission to fire. The Russian pilot released an air-to-air missile, which successfully launched but failed to lock on to its target, the BBC has been told. It was a miss, not a malfunction. Defence sources have told the BBC that a row then broke out between the two Russian pilots. The pilot of the second SU-27 did not think they had been given permission to fire. He is said to have sworn at his comrade, effectively asking him what he thought he was doing. Yet the first pilot still released another missile. We had been told that the second missile simply fell from the wing - suggesting the weapon either malfunctioned or that the launch was aborted. …. more at link.
  13. Link to business insider Russians opened fire on a Ukrainian flag tied to balloons, revealing their position for a counterattack, Ukraine says A Ukrainian flag attached to helium balloons flew into occupied territory, Kyiv's military said. An official said Russian soldiers tried to shoot it down but revealed their firing positions. Ukraine was able to use this information to launch an attack on the soldiers, the official added. Russian soldiers accidentally revealed their positions after they tried to shoot down a Ukrainian flag suspended from balloons flying over occupied territory, a Ukrainian official said. The large flag, attached to dozens of helium balloons, was released from the Ukrainian-controlled town of Avdiyivka on Sunday by the military. The launch was to commemorate the 245th anniversary of the city's founding, Vitalii Barabash, the head of the Avdiivka city military administration, said. Barabash told national television the flag eventually flew over the Russian-occupied city of Donetsk in eastern Ukraine, where Russian soldiers attempted to shoot it down, The Kyiv Independent reported. …. more at link
  14. Ukraine pierces main russian defensive line Wall Street Journal Ukrainian forces have penetrated the main Russian defensive line in their country’s southeast, raising hopes of a breakthrough that would reinvigorate the slow-moving counteroffensive. Ukrainian paratroopers are fighting through entrenched Russian positions on the edge of the village of Verbove, a Ukrainian officer in the area said. Ukrainian forces have also reached the main defensive line to the south of nearby Robotyne village, he said. Ukraine’s military confirmed advances toward Verbove and south of Robotyne, without giving details. Describing the advance, the Ukrainian officer held up three fingers representing lines of attack through entrenched Russian positions on the western flank of Verbove, an agricultural village of some 1,000 residents before the war. The significance of the advance is that it marks the first time Ukraine has penetrated the main Russian defensive line, an extensive system of minefields, trenches and antitank obstacles covered by artillery. more at link
  15. That commercial was so cool. I’m trying to remember when it came out. Was it from the mid 2000’s?
  16. Not to mention the kick in the nuts this is to their morale and sense of security. it’s a shame russian mouthpieces have found so much traction for their bull**** claims that Ukraine’s offensive has failed.
  17. Reuters Ukraine says it launched 'special operation' in Russian-occupied Crimea KYIV, Aug 24 (Reuters) - Ukraine's navy and military intelligence carried out a "special operation" overnight in which units landed on Russian-occupied Crimea, the defence ministry's Main Directorate of Intelligence (HUR) said on Thursday. The operation, which Reuters was unable to independently confirm, would amount to a rare demonstration that Ukrainian forces are able to stage ground operations in Crimea, which Russia seized and annexed in 2014. Brief and dark video footage posted alongside the statement showed a small motorboat moving through water at night near a coastline. HUR said the landing point was on the western tip of Crimea, near the settlements of Olenivka and Mayak. "Special units on watercraft landed on the shore in the area of the Olenivka and Mayak settlements," HUR said in a statement. It said "all goals" had been achieved and casualties inflicted on the enemy, but did not identify the goals. "Also, the state flag flew again in Ukrainian Crimea," it said, without saying where exactly or providing further details. ….
  18. There were reports that the elite russian airborne company vdv was threatening action if their leader was arrested/killed. Is there going to be any blowback from subordinates loyal to prighozin, or should we be expecting a mass-defenestration?
  19. I wonder what that douche was thinking on the way down… Kinda putin’s m.o. he likes people falling from high places. maybe we’ll find out prighozin was sucked out of the window as the plane went down, lol.
