PleaseBlitz
https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/2022/02/21/russia-ukraine-updates/ Russian President Vladimir Putin signed decrees ordering military forces into two separatist regions of Ukraine for “peacekeeping” purposes as Moscow recognized the breakaway regions’ independence Monday. Putin signed a decree recognizing the areas — a move that Russia could use to justify an attack in those areas — and an agreement of cooperation with the heads of the two regions: Denis Pushilin of the Donetsk People’s Republic and Leonid Pasechnik of the Luhansk People’s Republic. The formal recognition prompted a chorus of condemnation from world leaders, with some vowing sanctions.

Wildbunny
Might be a little soon to call that "invasion"? Though that may be true in a few days.Putin's just having fun with western countries as of now. Guy could invade and conquer Ukraine in 2 days that nobody would move at all. He's just checking opponent's forces and telling China how to do it with Taiwan.
CousinsCowgirl84
I don’t know if this will result in much sanctions action from France and Germany. If Russia keeps its attack to just those two regions…. guess it depends on what Ukraine does. when is the UN meeting France and Ukraine asked for? ExoDus84
Turning up the temperature 1 degree at a time in order to not raise too many eyebrows at once. Where have we seen that before? This feels very Sudetenland to me.
TheGoodBits
I think they will spend a week or two in the eastern regions and then use fighting with the Ukrainian army as an excuse to take Kiev. I hope this is another Afghanistan for them. Skeptical it will be though.

Simmsy
Well, if we go to war, lets do it right. We go in (with the UN) and we dethrone Putin. I know we don't like to mess with the stability of a country, but Putin needs to go.
Forehead
Having no real knowledge of foreign policy ramifications or anything else, part of me wonders why we don't just bomb the artillery positions. I'm not saying drop it in the middle of their large troop formations or kill a ton of them, but maybe several well placed drops onto tanks, the trucks with the missile launchers, etc. Enough to remind them that our stuff is a whole lot more advanced then theirs and we could do a lot worse if we chose. I'm sure it would cripple the economy or something. But man if it tempting to shove our technology right up Putin's ass over this. If Canada tried to absorb some "separatist parts" of Upstate New York or Mexico try to absorb some "separatist parts" of California, all hell would break loose. Russia is trying to figure out how to absorb former parts of the USSR without it being called an unprovoked invasion. What they've done to Belarus is like taking over a country without firing a shot, so even if the invasion of Ukraine is some how stopped, we still have to get them out of Belarus as well, hopefully also diplomatically. I have no idea how we plan to stop a successful Russian invasion without troops on the ground. Is there confirmation other members of NATO will put troops on the ground? Because sounding tough through solidarity and laying sections won't stop Ukraine from ceasing to exist as a sourverign nation. CousinsCowgirl84
NATO has said it will not put troops in the ground. Also “video” of the Ukraine “invasion” of Russia… https://www.rt.com/russia/550157-fsb-video-ukrainian-vehicles/ Not even a good dark. The video isn’t taken how you would take a video. It’s weird. Captain Wiggles
I'll be surprised if any country sends troops into Ukraine to fight the Russians. Sanctions are our best option tho practically useless without countries like Germany on board. 😒
Renegade7
This is terrible and NATO should be embarrassed. Was watching Meet the Press with Secretary of State on and he kept bringing up one of the original intents of NATO being to counter Russian aggression. Ok...is this not Russian aggression? NATO is really saying they intend to protect against Russian aggression against NATO members, and ironically, this whole Russian invasion stories centers around Ukraine wanting to join NATO. NATO is a joke, and this won't be only country assimilated by Russia. $700 billion defense budget and the Capitol building is taken over by members of duck dynasty. Multi-country military alliance designed against Russian aggression and defending democracy has an authoritain member in Turkey and talking tough about Russian invasion of a European country. President of Ukraine is right, the security apparatus of the world is a joke and outdated. Edited February 22, 2022 by Renegade7
