Those tickets were bought long ago.

Will take some time to get the season ticket base built up.

Home games like this won’t help.

I've got a pricey ticket for the Falcons game.  We have an extra seat that none of us can sell.

I'm not wanting to keep mine after today.

The fact is a large part of the problem is not that “other teams fans travel well” it’s many of them live right here in the DMV.  Most of those Bills fans in the stadium did not travel here from Buffalo.  We are an area where a lot of people who are NFL fans have for whatever reason chosen to be a fan of a team not from here.  Also, just like with many Nationals fans being former Orioles fans, many Ravens fans are former Washington fans.  The long time stalwarts here in the DMV, the Redskins and Orioles took their fanbase for granted for too many years and a lot of so called “fans” jumped ship from both franchises.

You pretty much nailed it but missed the reason for this part that I bolded—it’s a very transient area. People from elsewhere come and go frequently. And for more permanent residents—it’s heavy on transplants that grew up elsewhere (or as rooted in family that grew up elsewhere and moved to the area within the last generation). That’s mainly around DC proper but includes plenty of other areas of industry and military presence in the DMV area.

Fans of teams exist all over the country. The transient argument doesn't really hold weight. In the Chiefs season opener there were LOTS of Lions fans. And that's at frigging Arrowhead.

Fair. But there are areas where this problem is exacerbated and the DC area has to be one of the worst.

Its a problem for this franchise because we haven't won anything in decades.

Go to Caps home games and it rocks. Nats Park was incredible when the Nats were in their championship window.

Everyone loves a winner.

Oh 100%. I agree with you that it isn’t reason alone for the poor attendance, that falls on the organization and it’s failures in the past decades. We couldn’t even be a lovable loser under Snyder, we were hate-worthy, boring, AND bad. That trifecta is a death knell as SIP has posted about often. I was simply agreeing that a contributing factor is the transient nature of the area—you have to work that much harder to enthrall your fanbase and build a loyal attendance. Especially in this day and age when the sport is arguably more enjoyable when consumed from your own couch.

It's not just a problem at Fed Ex.  Ever see what Dallas looks like when the 49ers come to town?  Ever see the "home" crowds in Vegas, Arizona, or Los Angeles?  The fact is that this isn't the NFL of 30 years ago, it's just way easier to get into any stadium for the game if you can afford it because so many seats are bought up by the secondary market websites specifically to sell to whoever.  Very few stadiums have a rock solid home fan base the way some of us older fans remember seeing growing up.

Yes, because the NFL grew and the stadiums are larger.  People travel in greater numbers.  The best “home field advantages” exist in places where there isn’t much else to get excited about.

Part of our biggest problem here is that we haven’t won a Championship that anybody under the age of 40 can even remember watching, and the Ravens who have done nearly everything right since their inception have won two.  We lost a lot of people to the Ravens over the last 27 years.
