In the presser with Ron and Mayhew, he said that Apke is the best special teams player in the league... a "premium player" and spouted off a bunch of mancrush quotes.  Trapke aint going anywhere.

I actually like special teams. I need to start watching Apke more it sounds like. The best in the league is high praise. There are some really good gunners around the league who consistently get down field and make ST plays. If they're saying Apke is the best, he must be killing it at gunner, on punt team, and coverage on kickoff. I'll start watching him more closely so I can appreciate what he's doing.

As many have been saying, if he's THAT good on special teams, he's worth keeping around. Just keep him far away from the defense.

Jamin will be our primary coverage LB. He is well equipped to develop in that role. For our reserve/ backup LB, I'd like someone to help solidify our run defense and help get us to more 3rd and longs. You're likely only going to get a specialist this late in the process so a run support guy would be my vote.

I think you hit the nail on the head....Jamin looked really comfortable in coverage and struggled mightily as a run defender.

The remedy is that we are going to run a lot of  nickel packages where Landon Collins is utilized.  Jamin will replace Bostic potentially down the road, but right now he's a liability in the run game.

I mean, is Apke really as bad as most 5th cornerbacks that have been on this team in the last 20 years?

The last corner, safety, linebacker on the depth chart should be ace STers. I think most teams have a 'ST ace' at those three spots.

He seemed alright in man coverage. Has the recovery speed for when he's beat.

okay who is bored tonight?  Let's play a game.  Name a guy who was cut today who you would claim, and what corresponding move would you make on the WFT to go with it.  IE, I saw the Dolphins did cut Bendardick McKinney and I would get him and maybe cut John Bates and sign him to the PS.  Or you have to risk losing him forever, and I would be okay with that.

Bates? He's not even the first Tight End I'd cut. Let alone player. Glad you're not running the team.

Do a lot of teams carry three quarterbacks on their 53 man roster? I don’t see why we can’t place Kyle Allen on the practice roster and sign an additional linebacker?

Because Allen would be claimed on waivers. And, as stated, the team did not have more than 4 LBs worth keeping.

Uh, I need backstory.  He doesn't usually do shootouts like this right?

I don't think so, but it's not the first time he has done this about Patterson. Looks like he's had his eye on him for a bit.

Upon catching wind of Jaret’s big day, Barry himself took to Twitter to give the Patterson props.

I mentioned Toney in another thread, as a possible dual player, to backup LB.

Reminds me of fan visions of another dual player, who was already talked about all offseason about moving to LB : Landon Collins

Maybe if the situation is right, those fans get their wish

I’ve been thinking the same thing. The guy is a 240ish, is freaky athletic and has very strong character. He is best off as a SAM longer term

I cannot imagine what that must feel like for Patterson.  That's like Hendrix or Clapton or Prince saying you're an incredible guitarist.  I can't fathom that.

Or Tony MacAlpine. Sorry, 80's shred head here. But yeah, Barry was the best pure RB I've ever seen. He'd still be dominant in today's NFL. And to be getting recognized by that, I'm not even sure how I would handle it. I'd likely freak TFO. I'm guessing it has a little to do with Jaret's size (they are very similar), but it's obviously more than that.

MacApline definitely is analogous here, just didn't think anyone here would get references with more than two syllables.

And yeah, we've seen shorter RB's, but for the arguable GOAT at the position to say that about you once, and then double down?!  His career is already a success.

"Eric Clapton was asked about how it felt to be the world's best guitarist. His response: 'I don't know. Ask Prince.'"

TMac is is the MAN. I have everything he's ever done, including the Planet X, CAB and Ring of Fire. Brilliant pianist as well. But I digress.....

It's obviously more than his size. But I think it's some of that too. I know when Sanders was coming out, there were questions about how he would be in the NFL, specifically due to his size. But Patterson has shown really good vision, and some really good small area quickness. He doesn't have Barrys speed, but he looks to have at least some of Barry's balance and power. That's a lot. I'm really pulling for him.
