Mayo is a good special teams cover guy and can play some ILB on run downs.  We are still looking for our starting LB.

And backs out of the backfield....I just feel like there are very few LB's who are great run stuffers and great in coverage.

I watched LB's cover Tight Ends like blankets all season last year !

At least when Jeremy Sprinkle was out there.

Mayo is a great signing. Not a 3 down backer, but one who can actually shoot gaps and pummel RBs is something we have not had ina while. Bostic sucked last year and KPL was a plastic garbage can. Better than Thomas Davis and is already our second best LBer. Having Curl and Collins should help with coverage. Same with JHC.

Why?  It's a vet minimum deal.  If somebody better becomes available, cut Mayo and sign the new guy.  No risk here.

it's not the money, it's decreasing the odds of a comp pick for a minor player, when the guy might easily be available after that period

After franchising Scherff and making our three signings, is there really any expectation of comp picks?  Wouldn’t our big 3 offset whatever Kerrigan, Anderson, Darby, etc command?

Ehhh. Fuller was an All-Pro in 2018, but regressed into 2019 and further last year.

Trufant, Rhodes, Hayward, Dennard, Butler, etc. A number of guys in that 29-31 range that will get 1 year deals similar to Verrett and Peterson.

He seems like he fixes a basic hole in the defense.  It's not a great fix, and we can clearly upgrade, but it seems like a good basic addition.
