I like Higgins, but I don't think he's a Mike Evans clone. He's an inch shorter and 15 pounds lighter, with shorter arms. I'd also say probably much less explosive based on a 31 inch vert vs 37". Evans to my eye looks like he was much more productive in college, obviously played in the SEC, and didn't play on the caliber of teams that Higgins played on. He didn't have a great QB throwing him the ball and every coverage was going to roll to him. http://www.nfl.com/combine/profiles/mike-evans?id=2543468 https://www.sports-reference.com/cfb/players/mike-evans-4.html https://www.nfl.com/prospects/tee-higgins?id=32194849-4738-7791-9f89-d556c4b59b9a https://www.sports-reference.com/cfb/players/tee-higgins-1.html I wouldn't mind Higgins in the late 1st and he'd be a steal in the top of the 3rd, but Evans should be a top 5-8 pick in any draft.

As many have pointed out using the Kerrigan trade, or any number of other trades, trading down for picks in the same year is often a chumps move. You have to nail the picks and your scouts have to be great and beat the odds. Trading for a higher pick in the following year is the opposite. A 2nd rounder for a 1st? That just takes a little patience.

If Chase Young was also a big time basketball player, shouldn't there be dunk videos somewhere?

Jesus Christ. I feel like I'm taking crazy pills. Herbert's last 3 games were 14/20 138 yards 0 TD 1 ITN, 14/26 193 yards 1TD 0 INT, 18/30 174 yards, 1TD 0 INT. Herbert over Tua? The draft is insanity. Herbert isn't a gamer. Never mind Herbert over Tua. Herbert over Simmons is insanity. I'd take Simmons, Jeudy, Andrew Thomas, and Wirfs over Herbert without blinking. Jeudy and Eason or any replacement level QB are more valuable than Herbert. I was pretty harsh about Daniel Jones last year. That guy is like Eli Manning lite. Not worthy of a high pick. But at least nobody picked Daniel Jones over Tua or Simmons. Herbert is Josh Allen. Imagine the Bills if they had any replacement level QB and Minkah Fitzpatrick, Derwin James, or Jaire Alexander, right? They might not win the super bowl, but they would be better. I'm starting to fall in line with Volsmet. Don't spend 100 million on a QB unless he's Deshaun Watson caliber. Don't spend a top 10 pick on one either. Take a shot on a QB with a chance to be elite, or spend your high end dollars elsewhere. Also, this year's draft looks so strong compared to 2019 and 2018. Looking back at 2019, we made out. Should McLaurin have been a top 10 pick? https://www.pro-football-reference.com/years/2019/draft.htm https://www.pro-football-reference.com/years/2018/draft.htm
  5. I agree. He said something dumb. But he’s basically a kid still. And he seems like a good hearted good natured young man. Most of us did dumb stuff at that age and I’ve done dumber stuff this year. Not a fan of the comment, but still a fan of the player/person and I’m sure he’ll learn from it.

    4-3 Starting Lineup

The fastest time in the NFL last year was 23 and change. Tyreek Hill. There is no way that Reuben Foster should be running 3 mph faster than that to run a 4.5. Forty yards is 120 feet. If you assumed someone was going the same speed the whole time, then 4.5 seconds would be 26.667 feet per second. So, if a player ran the same speed the whole time, they would be running 18.18mph. The math to figure out the acceleration is beyond me. In any case, I hope Foster gets back, but it looks like he wasn't that close in December. Could be he's a lot closer now. He'd be Great WILL, if healthy.

    4-3 Starting Lineup

I haven't done the math, but that's not correct. Henry Ruggs ran a 4.27 and his top speed this year was 24mph. Top speed can't really be calculated based on 40, but there is probably an average. Some people get to max speed faster than others. For instance, a guy with less top end speed might just be really good at getting out of the blocks quickly and run the same speed as a long strider with a slower jump, but a better top speed.

    4-3 Starting Lineup

A top speed of 12.3 mph is not impressive. I'm an out of shape 43yo and I can probably do that. I hope that he gets back. For him and us. I love a redemption story. What would be a typical top speed for a 4.5 or 4.55 LB?

SIP, I agree with the scouts in your two recent posts who thought we were going to take Chase Young and then a TE. We always TALK about taking BPA, but then draft for need. We are going OT, WR, TE, or CB with our 3rd and probably our 4th and TE looks like both the direst need and the shallowest group. That being said, I wouldn't mind some combination of Trautman/Edwards in the 3rd/4th or Pittman/Albert O. Our 1st next year looks destined for OT or CB. Can't fix everything at once.

PFF loves him. Going to be a classic Skins type pick, even if not chosen by the skins. So good, but horrible injury history. I think he goes pretty late and maybe he'd actually be a value in the 5th. Been doing a little more digging on Uche. I still think he'd be a great SAM for us. I also think that the scouts probably aren't sleeping on him like the board is. Here is an interview with Uche. Says he ran a laser timed flat 4.6 on his first 40 attempt in training. He has legitimate pursuit speed and looked great in coverage at the Senior Bowl. https://draftwire.usatoday.com/2020/03/30/nfl-draft-prospects-2020-josh-uche-michigan-interview/ The Senior Bowl director, Jim Nagy, thought Uche was the best defender at the Senior Bowl and should go in the 1st. "Give him more first-round love, Nagy says. “Hard to believe we’re not seeing this guy in any first-round mock drafts,” he tweeted. “Could make a strong case that (Michigan Football) OLB Josh Uche was the best defensive player at the Senior Bowl. But that’s just what we saw. #TheDraftStartsInMOBILE.” https://247sports.com/Article/NFL-Draft-2020-Senior-Bowl-director-stumps-Josh-Uche-first-round-pick-Michigan-football-143310224/

I know we've talked about Cheyenne O'Grady. I wish he were't so crazy, but he could still be a late round or UDFA steal. His 40 isn't great and he doesn't look super quick on tape, or based on his combine numbers. His size is pretty great however and he's such a load to bring down. He's a relatively explosive jumper for his size, which indicates some explosion. https://www.nfl.com/prospects/cheyenne-o'grady?id=32194f47-5204-1528-4e96-c6588a4c43ad

I think I agree? I do generally think it would be hard to screw up with Chase. You don't have to flip him between LDE and RDE and twist him inside and stunt him and run games. You can just line him up at RDE and let him tee off. I actually think that Simmons would be extraordinarily impactful even without a particularly creative DC. He could be plugged in at WILL and have every bit the impact that a Derrick Brooks had for Tampa Bay. Or even SAM. He can rush the passer and cover a TE and has the length to be successful at that spot. If Simmons drops in the draft, as some posters have suggested, like a Derwin James, anywhere past the 10th -12th pick, and I'd be seeing what kind of package I could put together to move up. Chase, Ioannidis, Payne, Allen, Sweat, Simmons, is a Tampa Bay/Baltimore Ravens quality defensive core. Add in Landon Collins and we are 2 or 3 FA in the secondary away from a defense that can carry an anemic offense deep into the playoffs every year.

Volsmet killing it tonight. I've loved Uche since you pointed him out and I started watching him. In what round is Isaiah Rodgers projected to be drafted? We've long been lacking in team speed and that is some excellent production in terms of INT's. It looks like he'd instantly also be our best returner.

That PFF mock is laughable, SIP. Laughable. I think they do a lot of grunt work in terms of watching every snap of every player and assigning metrics, and there is value in that, but I generally don't trust their scouts or their eyes any more that you/McQueen/myself etc. Look at their WR rankings from last year, or their rankings in general from any year. They are ok. Not great. And not nearly as good as their reputation suggests.

    2020 Roster Thread (Updated: 3/29/20 @ 1:10PM)

I don't think JHC has the instincts for MIKE. Instincts at MIKE are super important. You can't just plug an athlete in there. You know this better than I do. I don't think we have the long term MIKE solution on this roster, unless Cole Holcomb figures his coverage issues out, which I guess could happen. I think that our best case scenario is that Foster comes back healthy and can lock down the WILL spot and that Cole Holcomb seamlessly integrates into the MIKE spot. Listening to JDR/Rivera bring up Holcomb, unprompted, when asked about modern NFL defenders that are scheme versatile, makes me think that he will feature more heavily this year than last. His measurements to compare favorably to Keuchly. Two inches shorter and 11 pounds lighter at the combine, but arms are the same length, hands are bigger, and 40 time, 3 cone and broad jump were all significantly better. I also didn't realize that Holcomb is taller and heavier than Reuben Foster. https://www.nfl.com/prospects/cole-holcomb?id=3219484f-4c00-6318-dfc2-c03b54847fbe https://www.fantasyfootballmetrics.net/general-nfl-draft-reports/2019-pro-day-wow-workout-spotlight-player-lb-cole-holcomb-unc http://www.nfl.com/combine/profiles/luke-kuechly?id=2533056 http://www.nfl.com/combine/profiles/reuben-foster?id=2557837
  18. KDawg, I also see a need for an upgrade at MLB. I think that's a position that JDR/Rivera would love to upgrade the front 7. A healthy Foster at that spot would change the whole complexion of the defense, but I'd settle for Logan Wilson if he drops. I can't see us lucking into Kenneth Murray. Akeem Davis-Gaither could be a long term solution at WILL in the 3rd or later. I'm struggling with Holcomb. The coaching staff singled him out for his versatility, but I wish he covered better. Maybe he could make a jump under the new coaching staff.

Ooooweee Dunbar wants to be traded!

This was unquestionably a stupid move. He wanted a couple million more dollars. We could have paid him, watched him look awesome behind Young-Allen-Ioannidis-Sweat and traded him for a better price next year or gotten a significant comp pick out of him. Or franchised him. We saved a couple of million, gained almost nothing, and aren't even going to use that cap space. I don't care if he went about it the wrong way. He was right about the principal and we were a better team before we traded him away. Reminds me of cutting Swearinger for criticizing Manusky. We should have fired Manusky instead. Swearinger should have kept his mouth shut, but he was dead on correct and our team was worse off for letting him go.

    4-3 Starting Lineup

How do you feel now? I think I underestimated this signing. He was quite productive last year in terms of tackles and still looks faster and more violent than I would expect at his age. Especially given his injury history. Is he a SAM or a WILL here?

!!!!0mgz!!!! Trent Williams finally showed up

Because I'm getting used to being disappointed? I think the most we get is a 3rd. And Anthony Harris is a pro bowl caliber player IMHO and a difference maker. Maybe we get him and a 4th.
  22. We aren't stacked at LB. At all. We have a lot of players and zero standout players unless Foster returns to form, which we shouldn't be counting on. I don't love that depth chart. If Foster is healthy, he starts. If not, he will be on the IR. It does seem like Rivera and JDR do really like Holcomb, since they singled him out to mention as a versatile player that could be moved around to play different roles in different defensive sets. Anderson isn't a SAM. He can't cover. He'll be a backup pass rusher, if he makes the roster. He was terribly over drafted. I'd rather see Brailford get a chance at SAM than Anderson. I think Thomas Davis may get the nod at SAM.

Trent for Anthony Harris and a 3rd would be a wet dream. I don't think that's going to happen.

Jeudy gives me wood. I'd mortgage the farm to land Chase Young and Jerry Jeudy. Like, literally. I would get a mortgage on my family farm. This draft is soooo good. Chase Young, Jeudy, Okudah, Simmons are all such studs compared to a normal year. Love Wirfs and the 1st round tackles in general. The WR depth. Such a good year.

Welcome to the Redskins Chase Young DE Ohio State

Cooley has been very accurate in assessing talent, and this makes me feel even better about Chase. It could do such magic for us if Reuben Foster actually comes back and plays to his talent level. Really could take the defense to elite with one more CB and FS. If Jaylon Smith can do it, there is no reason Foster can't. And I actually think that with some protection from the OL and better QB play, McLaurin could be close to elite.
