2. Elden Ring - Got $30 worth of gift cards and was able to get this game for about $15. I highly regret buying this game, ten hours in and I think its going to permanently be transferred to the shelf. I don't get all the love for this game, let along all of the GOTY talk.

Dead to me.

same. Makes no sense to me. Put 150+ hours into it and walked away thinking “that was it?” What actually happened? What was the pout of any of this? What a waste. The art direction is really nice and some of the fights are cool but overall just felt like it had nothing beneath the surface

Dead to me, although I do beg the question, if you didn't like it, why did you put 150 hours into it?

I liked the gameplay and boss fights and world. There is just nothing in between the fights to make any of it matter. Getting any type of story or purpose from that game is like pulling teeth. Empty meaningless characters.

I have absolutely zero clue wtf was going on story wise in Elden Ring.

And I don't even care!

Game was just too awesome.

My wife and I finished Breath of the Wild last night. We didn’t collect all the Korok seeds, we had about 400 left…screw that. I saw where one of the main guys that worked on the game said the Korok seeds are just Korok poo. If you collect them all, you get an in game trophy of golden poo.

Anyways, that was the most anti-climatic ending of all time.

felt similar to this about ER. The sandbox is really creative and fun but the enemies are kinda worthless and there is just no narrative momentum in this game. That final boss fight, maybe my game glitched but I played it twice and Beast Ganon just stands there in the field and lets you kill him. Lol weak

He just stomped around for me. It was super easy and unexpected. Then, after you beat him it labels it as an unfinished quest. WTH? I wanted to at least mark it off and say that I conquered all of the main quests.

Filling time between now and Ragnarok, I’ve never played RDR2, but it’s pretty cheap nowadays so will give it a whirl.

I don't think you'll finish it by the time GOW comes out. It's a great game though and I loved the campaign. Didn't play online.

I would like to play it again, but my backlog is big enough.

fantastic game but takes some getting used to. Everything is slowed down quite a bit and it’s more of a cowboy simulator than the original. I adored it tho, cherished the little moments like drinking coffee in the morning with my gang and learning about them or telling stories st a campfire at the end of the day in between all the shootouts, robberies and murder.

The 8 point font for tutorial stuff is killing me. How are half blind people supposed to know what buttons do what? FML 🤦‍♂️

what about the microscopic dot for a cursor lol

also, the snow area/tutorial sucks. But stick with it because the game opens up shortly and then you can do whatever you want

I'm still working my way thru ER, I'm somewhere north of 150Hrs at this point.

The bones of the game are incredible. You can be what you want, play like you want and make the game as difficult as you want. That is a marvelous accomplishment for this genre of game and its something that is rarely achieved at this level outside of Elder Scrolls. It also respects my time, which I can not commend it enough about.

The story is in no way put in your face or used as much of a carrot to push you along but if I know that before hand, it is not an issue. I play the game not for a sense of overarching progression or to feel like I'm saving the world, but rather for fun and challenge. Its like playing an old school Sonic or Mario game, You don't need plot, just gotta make a sandbox where the ride is a fun one. My character looks like Buff Santa and he goes around busting skulls and crossing names of his naughty list. Fun Time.

It does have a couple of problems tho. I don't know how the quest system passed QC in its current state. There is absolutely no way you will be able to finish or optimize the pathways w/o a guide. If it was just side character fate related, it wouldn't be such a big deal, but when you can very easily miss/lock yourself out from some weapons/gear/stuff that hurts the experience in a game of this ilk where that stuff is of major import to gameplay. If your a melee focused DPS monster and you miss out an equipment piece that would have been the cherry on top of your build after your 100hrs into the game... No bueno. Everyone can't put in another 100hrs in new game + to fix the mistake.

For me, its not quite GOTY status, but its does earn a gawdy score. The bones are just so good and the flexibility built into the gameplay is nearly unrivaled.

6. Persona 5 Royal - Many moons ago, I worked in a slow Italian restaurant. Persona 3 on the PSP became a very good friend of mine, I spent a lot of time with this game. I didn't have any Sony consoles to play Persona 4, so I emulated it, but it wasn't the same. When I found out the Persona series was coming to Xbox, I genuinely became excited. They're not being released in order, for some stupid reason, but I can partake in #5 for now. Love this game and if you like the series, you'll love it too. Think of this game a sort of R rated Pokemon.

Oh man, for anyone that does not mind the anime tropes and ascetic this game is incredible.

It might just be the best JRPG ever made. It is in my discussion for one of the best games ever made. I still can't get over how ludicrous the U.I. for that game is, its literal porn.

The original P5 was a 10/10 in my book. P5R made improvements and expansions I didn't even know I wanted. Can't recommend it hard enough. I have not experienced a level of "post-game depression" like PSR evoked in a while, I was devastated when the ride was finally over, it was a magical ride.

Good Intel: Make sure you rank up Dr Maruki's friendship to rank 9 before Nov 17th in game. Unlocks a bunch more game.

I'm willing to give Elden Ring another shot, I mean, I did pay for it. I'm just waiting for this awe inspiring experience that every has been raving about and I just don't see it. Maybe I missed something? Maybe I went the wrong way? Its possible. This game sticks with a lot of the souls like characteristics and sticks with them, I think its broken game mechanics. One example: why in the hell, in the year 2022, can I not compare the shop owner's gear to the gear I have equipped? I either have to buy it and THEN compare it or take a pic with my phone and compare it myself. That is extremely world breaking, I spend a lot of time on my phone/PC looking up **** I shouldn't have to while playing Elden Ring.

I love Persona and I'm loving Persona 5, the only nit pick I have so far is the UI. I wish the user interface was a little more practical or useful, it seems the developers focused more on making the menus aesthetic instead of useful. However, anything could change with this game, I'm only about eight hours in and I'm still very early into the game.

Another game that saved me from boredom in that Italian restaurant is getting a remake and mass release. Ogre Tactics! Not sure how familiar you are with that game, but its a gem and everyone is giving high praise to the remake. Might have to check that out as well.

I will agree that the UX in Elden Ring leaves a lot to be desired, but From Soft has always had this issue and while I've only ever played Demon's Souls, I expected it in Elden Ring so didn't think much of it.  But yes, navigating menus and stuff and overall UX definitely has it's issues in Elden Ring.

As a general pro tip, there isn't much that you need to buy from merchants.  They are overall worthless aside from those stone keys and other consumables.  But as for buying weapons and shields and **** like that, yeah you don't really need to bother doing that at all.

Have you gotten past the first boss in the game?  And gotten into Stormveil castle?

I think that is really when the game started to wow me.

EDIT:

Still remember being blown away by the approach to Stormveil.

Yeah the only thing I ever bought from

Merchants was stormsword keys and the stones to upgrade weapons. They are otherwise worthless.

this was a great shot. I think my favorite from the castle is when you get towards the top and come out on the battlement and can see the courtyard and how truly huge it is with all the gorgeous architecture.

sadly aside from the Sofria River starry area, I don’t think anything else in the game impressed that that degree

Yeah the underground area was unreal, especially when you get there the first time after you see how big the overworld is, and then you get to this underworld like holy ****.

I was also impressed with the academy.  I just thought the atmosphere in that whole area was awesome.

Oh and I thought the volcano manor was awesome too, mainly because I had no f'ing clue how big it was lol.

I do feel like the earlier parts of the game were more impressive than the end.  My least favorite was probably the land of the giants.  It was just kinda baren and pretty linear compared tot he other parts of the game.  I also thought the astral city area or whatever it's called was neat too like graphically.

The sheer scale of the game is honestly what is most impressive.  Just unreal how big it is.

Put down Persona 5 and get Persona 5 Royal. Its all the DLC, but they also fixed the slow parts in the game, added some dope music, added characters (and integrated them in the story) and is basically just everything the game did well but better in every way and fixed a lot of the stuff it didn't.

Didn't change the menus though lol. The in-fight menus do get more useful as you unlock more functions. But its locked behind story so it will be a while before it all comes together. Like 30+ hours for me, but i did all the extras.
