Does anyone have a rough guesstimate of how many Proud Boys are actually out there?  That are willing to take up arms in the face of say, the military who is helping escort their idol out of the White House?  I'd guess, though maybe it is just wishful hoping, that the number is pretty few.

For me, it's not necessarily the total number of Proud Boys that are out in the streets and stuff, along with the KKK and other white supremacy groups, there's probably not a lot of them in total.   Last year the SPLC reported that the number of KKK groups have gone down from 130 to 51.  And the Proud Boys and the Boogaloo and whatever other groups probably don't match that total.  Anyway, I digress.

It's about the people who nod silently in agreement and wish they could join them but can't/won't for whatever reason.  Call them sympathizers.  It's the group of people who see them on tv or on the news and think "Yeah, I'd like to join but I'd run the risk of sacrificing my job, losing my wife and family and friends.  But ****, those guys are right on the money."

I get it, but it’s a wasted question and more of a set up question. It’s in the same line as the question to ol man Joe about calling the Portland mayor to bring in the natn’l guard in.

wasted questions imho.

But your post wasn't about criticizing wasted questions. it was about how Trump in the past "has condemned blanco supremacy."

The reason the question was asked is because of the numerous times this year Trump has seemed to align his presidency with white supremacists, and the number of times white supremacy groups have aligned their movement with him. He aligned with them again last night.

OK - I hadn't even heard of the Proud Boys before last night, so I'll take your word on that.

He said stand down AND stand by. Tough to dismiss that as a misstatement.

He didn’t say stand down, which has meaning.  He said stand back and stand by.  What he’ll do now, after the fact, is say all the right things.  This is the pattern with Trump.  He says what he means, and his followers acknowledge it as a message received.  “Both sides” for example.  Later, he dismisses it and says something else, which his followers interpret as just politics.

He’s done this many times before.  He’s even done it with masks during the corona pandemic.  He politicized them, then wore one later.  It’s a pattern, it’s not a mistake.
