Under conservative media pressure, Jim Jordan launches new probe

House Judiciary Committee Chair Jim Jordan sat down with Fox News’ Maria Bartiromo earlier this week, and the conservative host expressed her frustration with the House Republicans’ seemingly endless parade of inconsequential investigations.

As the two discussed Donald Trump’s ongoing criminal trial in New York, Bartiromo told the Ohio Republican, “Well, look, I mean, at this point, American citizens are asking, ‘What can you do about it?’ I mean, look, with all due respect, people are sick and tired of congressional investigations that go nowhere.”

In context, the Fox host wasn’t suggesting that GOP lawmakers end pointless partisan probes; Bartiromo was instead suggesting that Jordan and his partisan allies start launching more productive partisan probes.

The far-right congressman understood the message — and acted accordingly. The conservative Washington Times reported:

Chances are, most of the public has never heard of Matthew Colangelo, though your weird uncle who consumes conservative media all day is very likely aware of him.

As we discussed a couple of years ago, Colangelo served as a former senior Justice Department official with a long history of taking on Donald Trump, including having led the investigation that led to the shutdown of Trump’s fraudulent charitable foundation. When he joined district attorney Alvin Bragg’s team in 2022, it was evidence of an intensifying investigation into the former president’s alleged crimes.

Conservative conspiracy theorists, however, came to believe Colangelo work in the Manhattan district attorney’s office was actually evidence of the Biden administration secretly pulling the strings in the hush-money case, as part of an elaborate election plot against Trump.

It’s this conspiracy theory that Jordan is now taking seriously — or at least pretending to take seriously — as evidenced by the Ohioan’s latest allegations directed at the Justice Department.

By all appearances, Jordan’s newest efforts to investigate an investigation — one of the Judiciary Committee chairman’s most unfortunate habits — will probably not amount to much. But what’s especially notable about the developments is the degree to which the Republican congressman was effectively bullied into pursuing the conspiracy theory in the first place.

Media Matters explained in a report this week, “Pro-Trump media figures alleged that Colangelo is a ‘partisan hatchet man’ and claimed that his past service in the Justice Department ... proves that Trump’s indictment was a ‘political hit by Biden to take out Trump.’ In reality, Colangelo had unique experience for Bragg because he led the New York attorney general’s civil inquiry into Trump before joining the Justice Department, and it is not unusual for lawyers to leave DOJ for senior roles in the Manhattan DA’s office.”

Missouri AG will defend senators sued for defamation over posts about Chiefs parade shooting

Republican state senators facing a federal defamation lawsuit over social media posts incorrectly identifying a Kansas man as the shooter at the Chiefs’ Super Bowl parade will be represented by the Missouri attorney general’s office.

Jeremiah Morgan, a deputy attorney general, is listed in court documents as the attorney for state Sen. Rick Brattin, who along with two other members of the Missouri Freedom Caucus — Sens. Denny Hoskins and Nick Schroer — were sued last month over posts on social media misidentifying Denton Loudermill of Olathe, Kansas, as an undocumented immigrant and the shooter at the Chief’s parade.

A spokeswoman for Attorney General Andrew Bailey confirmed all three senators are being represented by the state.

The attorney general’s role in the lawsuits was first reported Thursday evening by Missouri Scout.

The defamation lawsuits should be dismissed, the attorney general’s office contends in a motion filed Thursday, because the senators were acting in their official capacity when they made their posts on social media. Therefore, they are protected by “legislative immunity.” The posts falsely claiming Loudermill was an undocumented immigrant were directed at the president, the attorney general’s office argues, and referred to border security.

State legislators “should not be inhibited by judicial interference or distorted by the fear of personal liability when they publicly speak on issues of national importance,” the motion to dismiss states.

In an affidavit, Brattin attests that he made the social media posts “while I was engaged in my regular duties as a Missouri State Senator.”

So we’re conducting official business on twitter now?

Ok, after watching Kelly Anne Conway on Bill Maher’s show yesterday… I’m ready to call out the hypocrisy.

Republican’s have Biden Derangement Syndrome.

It's really gotten so screwed up in this country. Most of you fine folks understand how ****ed up this orange pumpkin looking asshole is,but it's amazing how many assclowns out there continue to support this load dropping in his britches unless, lying, con artist, narcissistic  ****.

It's appalling how there are people out there that still want this hitler wannabe to be president again. It's frightening to think he has a real chance to reclaim the white house.

He will destroy democracy and turn this country into a dictatorship.  And he'll do it gleefully while evading the law this country was founded on.

God help us all.

My mom (who is on SS, Medicare, and a breast cancer survivor) said to me "Well, I was doing better when trump was president".

Then I had to launch.

"IT'S NOT ABOUT YOU OR ME, IT'S ABOUT THE COUNTRY! Oh, by the way, he'll take your scarce income and healthcare away from you if you let him...but don't listen to me..."

I swear...there is very little to enjoy in this life anymore.

kid gloves again. That reporter probably thinks she asked 'tough questions' and was hard, and she completely failed. She let her weasel and dodge, and that is all her supporters need.
If she won't answer, ask again. fill the entire ****ing show with it until the admits she lied. After whatever bull**** spews from her or any of their mouths, just come rght back to it. "So DID you meet Kim Jong Un", or 'Why was it taken out of the book?".

I don't care about giving them airtime, it's the giving them an out so they can appear legitimate that bugs me.
Press them, MAKE them answer or walk out.
And if they walk out, explain for the remainder of the show exactly why she walked out.

The media just continually lets them slide on their bull****.
