Id call it racially insensitive at best.

Like I said, I’ve heard similar stuff from my rural family. Based on my experience what he said leans more into closet racism to me.

No way to know for sure but it looks like a two birds one stone thing to me. Just my opinion.

It’s been done. My only hope is that The Big O and Dukes Show makes a 3rd comeback.

That wasn't closet racism, that was shouting from your front porch so your neighbors can hear you racism.

We all have different opinions but I highly doubt he'd be making those same jokes when he had Lavar as a cohost or with Santana in studio.

He was doing that show with Santana for both of those jokes. That’s kinda been part of his bit. He may be a racist, but I don’t think so. I think he likes to walk a line. I like his schtick but I get why people probably don’t.

Santana was on the show in the video when he was making those comments? If so, my fault for being misinformed but I'd just be shocked if that was the case.

I had assumed this was a completely different show.

I’m 90% certain that both are from the BOAD podcast. It’s the only show that features Drab and Dukes together (along with Santana). They’ve made these kind of racial jokes since the terrestrial radio days. Granted, it’s usually Dukes making the racial jokes, but none of these struck me as anything off brand.

Fair enough - I'll definitely defer to your knowledge on it. If that was his schtick I would have thought he would have evolved a bit like Stern and I'm not sure the "chiggers" comment would have been acceptable even 10 years ago.

I mean, prior to Janet Jackson, radio was WILD.

I remember, as a kid in the early 90’s hearing someone call in to Howard Stern with a joke that was told ON THE AIR. It went something like: “What does a racist sprinkler sound like?” [Insert every single racist term you can think of repeating]

Don and Mike used to have women call in and masturbate to orgasm (or fake it) live on the air. They’d have live shows with women (strippers) doing all sorts of crazy stuff.

Along with some predictably horrible "likes" popping up on my feed about the election, I see Dr. Bickel is at it again . . .

I cannot stand EB.  He is the worst part of that show by far.  I've made it known to them on twitter multiple times and sometimes drag or valdeez will engage me too.

The annoying part is that I'm working from home now and have it on my TV so I can see them and I just want to ****ing mute his google hangout but I can't.

Oh, EB is completely gone and it's kind if disappointing. I'll give them credit for being able to put on an entertaining show but I've lost a lot of respect the past 8 months.

Here’s an old WP article about shock jocks, kinda sheds a little light I think.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/style/tv/features/shockjocks0227.htm

Quote

The morning after an Air Florida jet crashed into the Potomac River in 1982, killing 78 people, radio shock jock Howard Stern – then with DC-101 – called the airline and inquired about the price of a one-way ticket from National Airport to the 14th Street Bridge.

...

"There's Howard and there's everyone else," Sabo said. "He is so much more skilled and talented than everybody else, it's not a level playing field."

Stern survives attacks, Sabo said, because he is egalitarian in his criticism of racial and ethnic groups – and most critical of himself. Also, his male sidekicks often tell the more offensive jokes, and he has a black partner – Robin Quivers – who gives him a sort of immunity when he does racially flammable material, laughing at most of his bits but disagreeing with others.

And there's another reason Stern goes on while Tracht did not, even though both worked for CBS.

"Stern makes more money for them," Harrison said. Stern's show is heard by about 9 million listeners a day, making it the third-ranked talk show behind Limbaugh and advice show host Laura Schlessinger. Tracht's show was not syndicated.

Yeah pre-covid, or maybe like 2 years ago he was my favorite by far.  Him and Cakes.  But the thing that started to annoy me a bit was that he is so "me me me" and everything has to be about him but if you bust his balls he cries like a little ****.  But I was okay with that, he was just a ****.

But since Covid and all the BLM stuff starting with George Floyd, he has gone off the ****ing rails.  He's a legit nut job like Q-anon type dude now.

Miss me with the Dukes defenses. Talk about Shock Jocks and how great they were, yeah miss me with that stuff too. I grew up with Ken Beatrice and he's the opposite of a Shock Jock. I grew up with Gibbs and he'd probably never go near a shock jock's show. Sorry I don't listen to see how close you can get to talking about sex with a porn star. I listen to sports radion about sports. Honestly I'm more into it for the callers (and the variety of opinions) than the actual hosts. That's why I spend so much time here. People that have to make up these personalities or get offensive or hang up on callers (yeah I hated Kornheiser as a kid) weren't for me and still aren't. I say the same thing about BMitch and Doc.

Give me a guy that'll present a theory and discuss it with callers, or have callers propose theories and discuss it. But all the shock jock and offensive jokes aren't for me. You know they say that everybody's laughing until you're the butt of the joke. Suddenly its not funny any more.

Exactly. I grew up in the Philly area and as a teenager listened to sports talk on two different stations and the shows were largely caller driven and by hosts that were respectful of their audience. But if you go back far enough in this thread, people will complain about the current hosts, but for whatever reason don't want to go back to a Ken Beatrice-type show. I don't get it.

Listening a little today to the first 30-40 mins of the Brian Mitchell show and man oh man he definitely has a grudge with Ron over the QB situation. He can not let it go, and takes every chances he gets to bring up how unfairly Haskins has been treated blah blah blah. Then the eagles fan Scott Linn chimes in with his 2 cents rubbing BMitches balls and stroking his ego on this opinion. It’s not even the fact that I disagree with Brian because I do think Haskins should start at this point but just the way he goes out his way to make points about it and his grudge is just clear, that part makes it hard to listen.

BMitch has always seemed like the type to form an opinion and never be able to reevaluate it over time and adjust. He seems to have determined Haskins is the future after the draft last year and has gone hard at Jay and now Ron because they didn't see it that way. It's funny to me, because BMitch is always the first one talking about hard work and doing things the "right way" and it has been clear from the jump that Haskins has maturity issues and doesn't exactly work the hardest to improve.

KB could carry a show by himself. He didn't need to bring in experts. He would break down plays and matchups. That's not the formula now...now they find personalities and people who can run a show even if they don't provide the content.

"Yoooouuure next!"
