Well **** man, that doesn’t sound fulfilling at all...

But it was though

Spoiler

There aren't many games that deal with those ideas. Joel after hating Ellie initially for being a burden and intentionally not getting close to her because of what happened to his daughter eventually embraces her and comes to love her and view her as a daughter.

Ellie dealing with her survivor's guilt and an apocalyptic life devoid of meaning after the loss of people she loves wants to die and is denied that by a selfish caretaker. She ultimately accepts this and chooses to believe that lie (this is how I read the scene anyway) because she has someone that actually cares about her again.

Thinking about putting a SSD in the ol' PS4 500gb launch day version.  Thoughts on this?  Opinions on what SSD to buy and any caveats about doing it?

Its easier to get an external had and plug it into a USB port.  I put an internal one on my launch day version about a month before they allowed external hd to be supported.

It wasn’t too much of a pain in the ass.  You have to download the OS for it and some files on a flash drive, swap out the hard drives and install the operating system from the flash drive.   Then reinstall every game you want and let them update again.  That was the worst part for me cause most of my games were digital downloads,  took like two days for me to install everything.

I’d recommend just doing a plug and play external HD, literally takes only a min or two to format the drive.

edit:  if you go internal just make sure it’s one that will fit in the PS4 and has the same specs or better than the one it came with.  My specs were the same, works fine.  I have an external 2TB drive for my Xbox One, same specs, cost like $90 and works fine too.

Anyone have a gaming laptop?  I have a gaming desktop in my upstairs man cave, but my old Alienware (9-10 yrs old) that was downstairs just kicked the bucket.

I’ve decided to replace it with a laptop and have been contemplating a gaming laptop vs regular laptop.  Probably looking at a $1500 max budget.

I saw a MSI model that has a GTX 1060 graphics card in it for $1299 but read that the 1070 is a lot better but that jacks the price up to $1800, which is past my cap.

Anyone have any recommendations?  How long before one with a GTX 1060 is obsolete?  I don’t need it to run every game in ultra settings with 60+ FPS  in future years, but I’d like for it to be able to play new games for at least the next five years, with a decent FPS rate as I can settle for low graphic settings if needed.

also, does anyone know if you can upgrade a laptop graphics card?  Like if I got the one with a 1060, buy a 1070 day in a year and swap it out?

Will you still get an OS performance gain with an external drive?

You want faster loading times or would you be fine with the same load times just as long as the storage was increased?

In both the PS4 and Xbox one the internal drives are 5400 rpm.  My internal seagate 2tb drive I put in the PS4 is also 5400 rpm. I can’t tell any difference since the specs were the same.

My external 2tb drive is also 5400 rpm and it’s never ran slower or faster than the internal drive on the xb1.

You out can get a 4TB external 5400 rpm seagate now for $98 on Amazon.  If you step up the rpms to say 7200 it should load, save games faster, even externally.  How much faster compared to the factory one?  I can’t speak to that.

You can probably get a faster one in 2tb fairly cheaper now.  My drive is only $65 now.  If you are happy with the standard load times I’d just go with the minimum of 5400 rpms, unless the faster ones aren’t much more in price.

Load times for the games installed on the external drive will be faster.  That's about it.  But that is really all that matters.

I think I missed what he was asking.  If the external drive is 5400 rpms, I wouldn’t expect faster load times, at least not high enough to really notice.  In theory, since it’s loading from an external source that doesn’t have the OS installed on it, sure it should run faster.

I got mine mine back in 2016, and I don’t recall noticing really any difference in load speeds.  But I can honestly say that wasn’t a focal point of my purchase.

SSD read times is way faster than the 5400rpm drive, so yes load times will be faster.  "Performance" won't be faster if you have the OS on it other than maybe things loading faster when browsing around.  But the OS isn't slow as it is anyways when just using the dash.

i haven't been able to game much over the past year but picked up a gaming PC in 2017 that I am finally getting use now.

I really wanted to try out the Mass Effect games on PC since I previously beat them on console. And man, with the content and texture mods you can download, it is AMAZING playing through them again.

ME2 and ME3 look like current gen games.

Previously I always played as a tech specialist but doing biotic runs this time. The Vanguard class on ME2 is insanely fun.

And then it just makes me sad that BioWare dropped Mass Effect for Anthem, which by the sounds of it, has been a giant failure. The ME series could have been timeless. Like there is no amount of content you will ever run out of when making a dope Sci-Fi RPG that had much depth and lore as the ME universe. Just seems like a huge waste that this franchise is sitting dormant after Andromeda.

Bioware GM Casey Hudson says Mass Effect will be back one day. So there is a little bit of hope. Unfortunately, with the way Bioware has been going since the founders left in 2012, I'm not sure they can ever match their previous level of quality. That report from Kotaku on Anthem highlights a lot of the issues they face, some internal and some regard dealing with their owner/publisher, EA.

Yeah I can't imagine how much fun ME is on a gaming rig, especially the co-op in 3.

Renegade Vanguard FemShep is probably the most fun I've ever had in a narrative heavy action game.

I think Anthem had to really kick ads for there to be a new one though. BioWare may be getting trashed soon. That's two duds in two years.

Im assuming you didnt play Andromeda. It was basically Anthem with a ME skin minus the flying.

I played Andromeda and didn’t really mind it. The game mechanics were better than the trilogy but the story and world building was underwhelming. I didn’t think it was THAT bad as people said but I also didn’t get it on release and they had patched by then.

I agree. I actually got it on release and didn't think it was that bad. It was nowhere near the original trilogy but it had fun core gameplay. The big issue was that the characters were just so underwhelming compared to the original which were really well written and developed.

Again, I'd gladly pay $100+ for a remaster of the original trilogy.

If you have a PC and get all the texture mods, they basically remaster the game. ME1 is still kind of clunky but that's just hard to fix with mods.

ME2 with texture mods is AMAZING. It looks as good as any game released in the last few years. I haven't gotten to ME3 yet but I am sure that's even better.

Yep I know, I replayed the trilogy on PC a couple years ago. Beat all three in about a month leading up to Andromeda's release.

Finally getting around to playing Shadow of the Tomb Raider. Love it. It is everything a Tomb Raider game should be. Tons of puzzles and just enough action sprinkled in. When you cover yourself in mud and lie in the bushes and wait reminds me of Rambo. How good a Rambo game would be sneaking around the jungle assassinating people and having the option to whip out some guns and blow them away if you want to.

Man I thought Days Gone would be this mediocre, janky ass zombie game... and it kind of is, but I'm still enjoying the **** out of it. It's an upgrade over State of Decay 2 and will keep my post-apocalyptic zombie murder sandbox itch sated till dying light 2 comes out. Whenever the hell that happens.
