@Dont Taze Me Bro & @Springfield

Cured my in-market streaming issues for watching MLB by getting an Amazon Fire Stick and loading Express VPN on it, pairing that with an MLB.TV subscription.  Turn on the VPN to an out of DC area market and boom, problem solved.  Get to watch the Orioles games, issue free.  MLB.TV is expensive but worth it, probably the cost of going to a game with all things totaled up but...whatever, cut the cord.  I think Express VPN costs the amount of a cup of Starbucks each month, too.  Not sure if it'd help with the Caps stuff but it's a breeze for MLB.

So, you subscribe to Extra Innings via MLB.TV and use the Express VPN and that will unblock in-market games from being blacked out via the MLB.TV app on the Fire Stick?

Wonder if that would work with Roku?  Do you have to jailbreak the Fire Stick?

The Fire Stick is like Apple TV, but in some ways better.  You can download apps to it, so I've got my PS Vue on there, amazon prime on there (duh), netflix, etc.  Can also play old school sega genesis games on it.  It's nothing you have to "jailbreak" but it feels...already jailbroken?  Feels a lot more open than Apple TV.  That's about the best I can describe it.  I tried a VPN on my Apple TV, didn't work so hot.

So when I turn the Fire Stick on, I got to the Express VPN app, select a VPN that's out of market (usually NYC) for the DC area.  Close out the app, go to the MLB.TV app, find the Orioles game and load it up.  I've only had a few issues with it this year where it didn't work.  All I had to do was to turn off the VPN, reboot the Fire Stick, and then load it all up again.

‘No One Saw a Thing’: When a Small Midwest Town Banded Together to Kill the ‘Town Bully’

o One Saw a Thing is the story of a murder perpetrated by an entire town, and the lengths to which it went to protect itself. But more than that, it’s a saga about how violence ravages individuals and communities, not only in the moment but in the years afterwards, its traumatic effects trickling down to infect and destroy the future.

Premiering on Thursday, Aug. 1, on SundanceTV, No One Saw a Thing (executive produced by Jason Blum) is a six-part documentary about the tiny rural enclave of Skidmore, Missouri, home to an incident that became so notorious they even made a TV movie about it (1991’s In Broad Daylight, starring Brian Dennehy, Cloris Leachman, Marcia Gay Harden and Chris Cooper): the July 10, 1981 slaying of Ken Rex McElroy, a “town bully” with 37 felonies to his name, and a hulking mutton-chopped 47-year-old who terrorized locals to no end, including shooting multiple people for no good reason. He was, by all accounts, the sort of monstrous bad guy one might find in an old Western.

As in one of those classic films, frontier justice came for McElroy courtesy of the residents of Skidmore (population 440 at the time of the crime). Shaken by the man’s ability to evade jail even after being convicted of a near-fatal attack on a grocery store owner, 50-60 townsfolk convened a meeting to figure out what to do about their McElroy problem. Immediately afterwards, they went down the street to the nearby bar and surrounded McElroy in his truck, where he sat next to his wife, Trena, whom he’d begun dating when she was just 12, and had wedded (while he was married to his third wife) to avoid a statutory rape charge (he also burned down Trena’s parents’ house for objecting to their union). Multiple shooters opened fire on the truck, killing McElroy, as Trena was escorted to safety. When the sheriff arrived (this after he’d also been at the conspiratorial meeting), no weapons were found, nor any ammo shells.

Moreover, there were no witnesses to identify the culprits. Because everyone in Skidmore said they hadn’t seen who did it.

This was, quite clearly, a lie, and No One Saw a Thing is an eye-opening example of both vigilantism and collective silence. In a region known for cowboys and outlaws, Skidmore’s men and women decided that, if the law wasn’t going to protect them from McElroy, they were going to do it themselves. State and federal investigations followed, but none turned up enough evidence to result in a single indictment. And in interviews featured in the series, many residents prove anything but apologetic or remorseful about the killing. Britt Small, in fact, says that the only mistake made during the entire ordeal was not killing Trena too, and that if he had been tasked with carrying out the assassination, he would have done it in McElroy’s driveway, and then set fire to his house. “I’d have burned everything,” he smiles.

Director Avi Belkin employs dramatic recreations to bolster his investigation of this infamous event, which is discussed at length by a variety of candid old-timers, journalists and historians, both now and in copious archival footage from an early-‘80s 60 Minutes segment by Morley Safer.

QFT.  I was a DirecTV customer or about 10 years.  I've been wanting to cut DTV, but I needed it or Sunday Ticket to see the Skins.

Same here Chew.. DTV had me pinned down with Sunday Ticket.. Then I found reddit and "tried" to cut the cord last year.. Xfinity data "cap" shot that all to hell.. But at least Im not paying 300$ for ST.. Or having to call and threaten to cancel if they don't give it to me for free.. lol (which they've tightend up on since AT&T took over.)

nbastreams was banned. Did something replace it?

Yes! DISCORD.. I think the channel is called "NBA Chat" there's also channels for all the other sports.. Discord will probably completely take the place of Reddit, if the r/streams keep getting banned.

I really loved "The Boys" on Amazon Prime.  The genre was really interesting to me.  It had some of the aspects of why I was really bugged by a movie like Batman vs Superman.  Like, ok one of these people can move faster than the other can even perceive, and can throw a punch or use eye lasers that would rip the other person apart before they even knew they were in a fight... But we are supposed to accept that the fight could go either way...

Spoiler

I thought it was very interesting to see a story where such issues are addressed in a way that even law enforcement acknowledged... We can't do anything about this, or he may just decide to kill us too.

I really liked the Boys, although I thought the last episode was a bit disappointing.

Although,

Spoiler

I didn't like how Billy and the others stopped paying attention to A-Train and his girlfriend later on.  Also I was hoping for some follow up on the conversation between Ezekial and Hughie.  Also they barely showed us Black Noir, though he seemed interesting.  Oh and it was weird when Hughie just ran away from Starlight after Billy shot her.  I still thoroughly enjoyed the show and the quirky characters though.

I agree about some of the characters making choices that did not make a lot of sense.  I had mixed feelings about the last episode, but I am definitely looking forward to the next season.

As a side note, I thought the episode descriptions on Amazon Prime were hilarious:. This episode might...MIGHT... Contain a homicidal infant.  You are going to have to watch to find out!

August is too packed of offerings. Been binging the Expanse so all these shows are building up on Netflix. Still got to finish Dear White People and start Glow before Mindhunter comes back this week. I wish Netflix just took a hiatus till I'm personally finished.

Man, the Mindhunter hype is going to force me to bite.  Plenty of folks on here and people at work have been praising it.  I guess we'll hunker down and binge it this coming weekend.

We already finished season 3 of Dear White People, I thought Season 3 was better than S2.  Looking at Logan Browning's face never gets old.

That 5 part docu-series, "The Family" is, like, tailor made for the Tailgate.  Jesus, religion, politics, Russians, shady stuff, secret societies.  It's like someone at Netflix lurks on the Tailgate and was like, "Hey, I wonder what programming we can make to **** with THESE guys."

It was good.  Watched the whole thing yesterday afternoon.  It's not on a Making a Murderer level of like "whoa, mind blown" but it's still pretty cool.

So, I finished OITNB last Friday.  I thought it was one of the worst seasons to date, maybe not the worst, but just not that exciting imo.  I think it was because the show was already over-saturated with so many story lines (both main chars and sub chars) that it was just so much to close out.  It was a darker, sad season, imo.

I'm of the opposite opinion, I thought it was one of the better seasons.

Yes it was a dark season, though there were of rays of hope for some of the characters.  It was obvious they were going for commentary on the current political climate

 As for Piper

Hated the Piper ending though (I had hated that entire plotline since like season 4, I mean how many times are you going to let Alex screw you and go back to her.  Talk about battered spouse syndrome.  Thankfully, I thought the other storylines I thought were really well done,  except for Aleida/Dayanara

Worse season for me was probably season 5.  The riot plotline was drawn out way, way too long

Finally finished the wire last week.  Such a great, great show.

It should be the gold standard for TV shows, at least dramas.  Breaking Bad came close, but had some "Jump the Shark" moments in S5/S6.   The Sopranos was also good, but it in retrospect there wasn't any overarching theme and it was basically a soap opera.

I'm not going to pretend like it's anything other than a dumbass guilty pleasure in the vein of the Spartacus series, but I'm watching and enjoying Knightfall season 2.  Plot holes that could swallow a truck, incoherent cardboard cutout characters, cinematic cliches and inconsistencies and nonsense in every episode.  It boils down to a lot of melodrama and fan-fic style wish fulfillment on the part of the creators.  But it's got a ton of depictions of knights in armor fighting with swords in well choreographed action scenes.  It's enough to keep me watching.

I am proud to say, that I was alive to see Fonzi actually jump the shark on Happy Days when it first aired.  In retrospect, it is like my parents telling me about sitting around the TV to watch the moon landing.  Of course, that Happy Days episode occurred at a time where if you didn't see the program as it was aired, you would assume that you would never see it in your life.

These are the horror stories that I tell my children about what I had to face during childhood.

I liked Wu Assassins far more than i thought i might. It has its holes and the plot is pretty damn silly, but i enjoyed it anyway

Wouldnt mind hearing the soundtrack, the music in the show was great

I'm 6 episodes in and I feel similar to you.  It's extremely cheesy but it doesn't take itself too seriously, and it's entertaining so I like it.  The music is good and it has like this weird 80's vibe sometimes with music that reminds me of Stranger Things, but then you got the one brother dancing to some Wu Tang or something.  Very odd choice in music but I like it.
