That's what movies are all about man, that connection. Sorry to hear about that but glad you are in a good place now.

I also loved this movie. I've read a lot about it and everybody says the script and cast did a fantastic job bringing such a serious subject to life. I think the movie resonated and was very believable which is why it got the praise it did, among many other reasons.

I appreciate you posting your thoughts and experiences on it as well.

I just came back from seeing "White House Down".  Definitely bettter than the other White House attacked movie: Olympus Has Fallen.

sounds promising, as I thought Olympus Has Fallen was a decent flick.

While on my death bed getting over this summer cold/flu - I watched Battle Royale and Sherlock Holmes - Game of Shadows.

Battle Royale fits the typical schlocky wtf!!! Japanese action movie but there is something about it that I just can't shake. Having read most of the graphic novels that it was based on, I thought the movie did a good job of staying close to the original story. I won't get into the Hunger Games ripped this off argument - I think both stories successfully stand alone.

I really would like to say that I hate the Sherlock Holmes movies with Robert Downey and Jude Law..but I can't. They are like the National Treasure movies..whenever they are on, you just get instantly sucked in to all the nonsense and silliness and fun.

Battle Royale was a great movie.  truly sick and twisted flick....which is right up my alley :)

If you liked BR, I'd suggest checking out "I Saw the Devil."  One of the most original thrillers I've ever seen.

This is on Netflix.  It is one of those movies that is so bad, it is hilarious.  It actually has actors that I recognize, so it isn't completely a b-movie ****show, but it is mostly that.  Pretty much the poster above explains what you are going to get.  Lots of polio and disability jokes, so if those make you groan in all contexts, stay far far away.

I think I can sum this movie up in 2 quotes.

First sentence of the movie is FDR standing around with 3 other guys "......well, that's Woodrow Wilson for you, he DOES NOT GIVE A ****."  (there is a TON of swearing in this movie).

When told he contracted polio from a Nazi werewolf and that his legs would no longer work: "What about my ****?"

This is the sophomoric humor that is the entire point of this movie, I DO NOT RECOMMEND IT, but, you know, if you don't have anything else to do and are in the market for dick jokes and effects that cannot under any circumstances be categorized as special, then maybe you should consider possibly putting this on your list of things to potentially get around to doing someday if you are really bored.

Just saw Paperboy the other day...

Man i swear every movie i see lately with mathew maconahay lately just gets more and more crazy. Dude is picking up roles that would make most actors think twice. Good movie, but man, was not expecting this. ( similar to how i felt about Killer Joe). Also, John Cusack was pretty good in a role i never ever would have imagined him playing. Pretty good movie overall.... But absolutely not a date movie.

For their ghost hunting reality show, a production crew locks themselves inside an abandoned mental hospital that's supposedly haunted - and it might prove to be all too true.

Not bad... Not bad at all. If I may say so myself, compared to just about every other found footage horror movie I've seen (which honestly isn't saying a whole lot) it blows them out of the water. I think what sets it apart is that it's going after all of those fake ass reality tv ghost hunting shows, and imo, directly spoofing one (Ghost Adventures, mainly the annoying assclown host, who, at this point, doesn't even try to hide the fact that everything about the the show, the "Cast," and the producers, is full of ****. He doesn't care, because he knows you'll watch anyway, as he and his crew gleefully crap on a subject that people have a lot of respect for).

In the beginning, it captures the sleazy (yet humorous) aspect of all of those shows, where you know that prior to filming they are strongly encouraging all of the interviewees to overwhelmingly exaggerate every little sound they here, or every little shadow they see. It also captures the "Oh ****, it really is haunted!" moment (and ensuing moments) very well, and gives you that feeling of terror and disorientation, which is crucial in the horror genre.

I watched both of those this week.  Battle Royale was Hunger Games with a smaller budget and less incredibly stupid moments.  Wasn't terribly good or memorable but it was entertaining enough to watch on netflix streaming.

I Saw The Devil was one of the most twisted movies I've ever seen.  I don't know if I liked it or if I am just surprised that a movie that a movie of this type could still surprise me.  That cop is one stone cold mofo.  I enjoyed this one.

I watched V/H/S as well.  Didn't like it.  It was like a gory twilight zone clip show with no plot and too many naked dudes.

I saw "Following" (first movie by the director that did Memento)

it was good,  very Memento-esque, if you didn't like that one, you won't like this one.

one thing that struck me was that one of the two stars (Alex Haw who played Cobb in the movie) had exactly one credit in his IMDB database, this movie.  Frankly, he nailed the part.   How inthehell do you basically star in one pretty damned good movie (without ever having to "pay dues" to get there) and then just walk off into the sunset?  This is not your typical Hollywood story as told by a bad VH1 docudrama (teh rise, fall, and re-rise of random actor X).... is this guy a real life "most interesting man in the world" that is now doing an archealogical dig outside of Timbuktoo?  I am not going to google and find out... i prefer to think that he is.

Dude!!!!  I like your style!  I Saw the Devil also had me like "wtf" several times during the movie LOL.

If you liked IStD, might I suggest "Oldboy?"  its currently streaming on Netflix, and is probably one of the sickest, most disgusting movies I've ever seen.  its also getting a 94% approval rating by fans on rottentomatoes.com  :)

and I also ask you to watch "The Man from Nowhere."  I'm telling you man, south Korea is pumping out thrillers like its nobody's business.  Original, edge-of-your-seat kinda stuff.  The Man from Nowhere is spectacular.  I'm a self-proclaimed movie buff, and TMfN is one of my all-time Korean faves, along with I Saw the Devil.

Saw Descipble Me 2 last night.  I liked it but it was missing something the original had.  Still like the original, the Minions stole the show.  They get their own movie in Dec.2014.  Seeing the Minions is worth the price of seeing this movie.

The primary audience- Kids will love the movie as much as the first one.

The Man from Nowhere was fun.  Main character is basically Spike from Cowboy Bebop dropped into another story line.  Being that I'm not one to care terribly if a movie is original (nothing is), only that it be entertaining, I thought the character was great.  Seems to take his hugs really seriously though doesn't he.  A lot of fun action and I enjoyed the culture differences when one of the bros says "where did he get a gun?!"  In American movies guns are have infinite ammo and everyone has at least one!  They really made the villains in this one easy to hate though didn't they?  ****s.

Oldboy... didn't like this one.  I kind of like the main character better in I Saw the Devil.  The writers didn't seem to be able to agree on which way to take this movie and the final product was random.  It had the feel of an indecisive fruit fly that suddenly finds itself at a farmers market.  They had so many options and they seemed to momentarily flirt with many of them and didn't have time to really make much of any of them by the time the curtain came down. The guy that played dentist early on was not the same guy barking later in the movie.  Also it didn't help the I saw the dubbed version and the voices are all familiar to me from anime and World of Warcraft (don't you judge me!)

Last few movies I've seen:

The Iceman:  Saw this in the theatre, absolutely loved it.  LOVED it.  Was thinking about it for two days after I saw it.  Michael Shannon plays Richard Kuklinski, a notorious Mafia hitman in the 60's through the early 80's, a true story.  Shannon was awesome, the movie was great, everything.  Chris Evans plays another hitman, he did a great job.  Winona Ryder plays Kuklinski's wife.  Despite how awful the guy is, he has a code and you find yourself rooting for him.  All he wants to do is provide for his family and protect them.  Ray Liotta is in it, too.  If you like Goodfellas, Casino, Donnie Brasco, you'll like this.  It might not have the major starpower for the main character role but Shannon does great work.

The Great Gatsby:  ****ing hated it, and I still can't put my finger on why.  Decent story, I don't think the acting sucked but...I suppose I hate everything Baz Luhrmann does.

Silver Linings Playbook:  Really liked it, thought it was hilarious and moving at the same time, too.  Great acting all around.

Man of Steel:  Really wanted to like it but it wasn't that great.  Got really tired of seeing Superman and whatever bad guy he was fighting throw each other through building after building and leaving skidmarks the size of Fed Ex Field in whatever town or field they were fighting in, only to have no scratches on Superman and his hair perfect.  Never thought he was in real danger, never thought he had to compromise anything.  Also hated the blatant product placement that was going on throughout the entire movie for some reason.  Definitely better than the one from a few years ago but still not all that great.

glad you enjoyed IStD.  ya know, a lot of folks didn't care for oldboy.  it was the first korean thriller that i watched, and it opened the door for me to Korean cinema.

if you liked I saw the devl, might I suggest the chaser.  its about a former cop turned pimp, and one of his hoes goes missing.  Dude goes on a wild goose chase all over Seoul trying to find the bad guy.  The Chaser is also available on netflix instant.  This flick is ****ing INTENSE :)
