I actually remember that 2.6 from 1993. I had played hooky from school that day and was lying on the bed when it started to rattle...thought my dog was doing something weird under the bed, looked and she wasnt there, only to find out later we had a small earthquake.

Sadly I live in Bmore now and didn't experience todays...:(

......

Prior to this quake, the largest quake to shake the area in the last 35 years was a 2.7 temblor in 1993.

Technically correct....in terms of epic centers, but really, the last time the whole DMV felt something was in 2003 with that 4.5 in central VA.

I remember that because I was at work and didn't feel it, but it was felt at my house

I slept through this one this morning

I'm going to catch one one of these days!!

Last night for maybe the 3rd time in 100 years the Washington D.C. area had a noticeable earthquake. For anyone living in the area that felt it or was woken up by it, it was quite a shock. It’s not something that they are used to. In response there is a large group of people who feel they have now lived though a life changing and traumatic experience.

Although the tremor came in at a measly 3.6 on the Richter Scale, this matters not to the terrified individuals who survived this life threatening act of mother nature. The survivors have banned together even making a Facebook page and t-shirts to show their camaraderie and bravery. The lucky few who have made it out alive are I’m sure going to be telling theirs stories for ages…and I’m sure there will be multiple books deals and movies made from the experiences.

I’ve heard of a few accounts, from a magazine falling from a coffee table, a picture on the wall thrown askew…and even one event where a cell phone was bumped from the night stand (although sources could not confirm if this was due to it being set on vibrate). Here’s to all the lucky people out there that survived this catastrophe. Head over to the Facebook page and mingle with all your fellow survivors.

Woke up to what sounded and felt like thunder this morning - didn't think anything about it until I saw this map a while ago. It lasted about ten to twelve seconds. Several calls came in from this region - really surprised since we are so far away from the epicenter. But there are several spots that felt the quake and are far away from the center as this map from the USGS shows. Weird.

Now I'm kind of wishing there had been a way to bottle it up and replay the earthquake later just to remember that it happened and what it was like.

OMG...I think I'm an earthquake junkie!

:(

I am too...I get SO EXCITED when an earthquake comes through. The last few times I've been on my bed, so I can really feel the vibrations (yeah, yeah, TOOC). I usually yell, "EARTHQUAKE!" and I just grin, seeing how long it will last. The last one lasted quite a long time, and I almost felt I had to get up, but as I was getting up it stopped.

That **** woke me up at like 5 AM today

**** that

Let me tell you, I would MUCH RATHER be in an earthquake than in a tornado. That is one of the best parts of living out here- tornadoes scare the **** out of me. Especially since a few years ago, one came down the street my mom lives on and tore the roof off our neighbor's house. **** THAT!

I remember that one, cause it seemed everyone I knew felt it except me. :)
