  1. I haven't been able to find 6-packs lately, and it makes me sad. I have only found them recently at Wegman's. I usually pick that up and their Blackberry Wit if I'm in a summery, fruity mood.
  2. I've done a lot of beer drinking this summer and brewery visiting. Some of my favorites of the summer: Sam's Porch Rocker- great session beer, perfect when I want something light Port City Porter- Probably my favorite porter right now. Great flavor (PS this is a GREAT brewery to visit if you haven't gone) Sea Dog Hazelnut Porter- was in Maine last week and visited the brewery, tried this and really enjoyed it Rogue Hazelnut Brown Nectar- probably my favorite beer, maybe tied with Alesmith (San Diego) Nautical Nut Brown. Obviously I like heavier, maltier beers. Especially with a nutty flavor. If you have one to recommend, I'm all ears Also, if anyone is on Untappd, you can find me under "zapato"
  3. Yeah I hated it. Maybe too depressing, I don't know. I just remember seeing it in college with my roommate and we both hated it.
  4. I HATED 28 Days Later, Dawn of the Dead, and Shaun of the Dead. Gory doesn't bother me. I may try and get into it this summer when I have some time off.
  5. For those of you who are Walking Dead fans..... were you/are you zombie fans in general? I have heard so many people praise the show, but I hate zombie movies. I'm not scared of them at all, but the topic just does not interest me. Just wondering if the draw of the show has mostly to do with the zombie topic itself or something else.
  6. Went to Oxbow Brewery while I was in Maine for Christmas. Small brewery with some very good beers. My favorite was the Saison Noel (Nose: Dark fruit, Date, Fig, Dark Cherry, suggestions of potporri, dried flower, clove, nutmeg, cinnamon, allspice, cedar, lemonpeel, pepper, pine, rose hip, lemon balm, maybe a whisp of pipe tobacco, licorice Taste: Medley of drk fruit, complex spice and earthy grain, warming alcohol with suggestions of tobacco and scotch) which I had tried at a bar in Maine last year. My brother and I each bought a bottle of Oxtoberfest to take home with us- $20 a bottle! We opened his up and the family tasted it and we were disappointed- realized it was a sour ale and it was aged in a riesling cask . Many of my family members agreed that it tasted like band-aids, while others tasted citrus. Accidentally left my bottle up there (at my grandma's), so maybe it will taste different after a little bit of aging. Beers at the brewery were all good, though, so we will definitely be returning on our future trips to Maine. A new tradition is born!
  7. Ok I'm just seeing this whole thing now, and I don't appreciate that my full name was posted in here. I didn't say anything particularly damning on his status, but it was still unnecessary to put that out there. My personal facebook is privatized to friends only, and while I understand that what I post on other people's pages may not be private, that is still different than posting it on a website with a much broader base of people. I know I am not anonymous to many people on this board, but I would like to remain somewhat anonymous to the others, for personal and career reasons. I appreciate that the screen caps were taken down.
  8. Finally watched Thor for the first time last night: I really enjoyed it. I know nothing of the Avengers and have seen Iron Man and one of the Hulks a long time ago. I have been wanting to see this movie, even though I didn't really know the plot. I enjoy "fish-out-of-water" tales, so when Thor came to Earth, it was humorous. This movie was decent. They gave away a main surprise really early on, but there is another twist near the end that is interesting.
  9. Had one of these last night, but on draft at the brewery. Yum.
  10. We watched Freelancers the other day: Not something I'd pick up to watch on my own, but I got it on a whim as something I would watch with the bf. He and I have very different taste in movies, though I will usually watch crime dramas with him. It has Robert DeNiro, who is one of my favorite actors, so I figured it should be somewhat decent. I mean, DeNiro wouldn't sign on to a crap movie, right? Er... he could not save it. 50 Cent is too bad of an actor. DeNiro did his part well, but the rest of the movie was pretty boring, to be honest. Very cliche' "bad cop" stuff and some of the sex scenes are kind of ...odd. If you've seen it, maybe you know what I'm talking about, but my bf and I were kinda like, "wtf?" And is it just me, but is Forest Whitaker unlikeable in every role he plays? I don't really follow him, and actually looking at his IMDB, I don't think I've seen any of his other movies (haha), but I'm not a fan.
  11. Ugh, I tried this at DFH about a month ago and I didn't like it at all- too sweet. I like fruity beers, but I wasn't a fan of this.
  12. Brought back these beers from Maine for me and the bf to try
  13. It was good, but I want to see the documentary now! I love movies based on true stories.
  14. No, on Amazon Prime. I think I just found the acting kind of cheesy.
  15. I watched this on Saturday....I didn't like it. The best part was Sons of Anarchy's Tig as the head coach. I don't know what it was that I didn't quite like about it.
  16. Just watched Project X. 3 high school seniors throw a birthday party to make a name for themselves. As the night progresses, things spiral out of control as word of the party spreads. This movie gave me anxiety. I am too high strung and too much of a goody goody to watch people wreck houses and incite riots. The music was good, but it wasn't for me. Oh, and not much of a comedy. I laughed once, when this midget came out of the oven. I also watched 1000 Words earlier tonight (movie night). After stretching the truth on a deal with a spiritual guru, literary agent Jack McCall finds a Bodhi tree on his property. Its appearance holds a valuable lesson on the consequences of every word we speak. eh, it was okay. The second half of the movie was better and there was only one funny part. I liked the ending. Sappy and typical Eddie Murphy family movie.
  17. Just watched Safe House. Very good, and excellent acting by both Denzel and Ryan Reynolds. Kept me on the edge of my seat. Very suspenseful. A young CIA agent is tasked with looking after a fugitive in a safe house. But when the safe house is attacked, he finds himself on the run with his charge.
  18. Wow, THANK YOU for this link! I went through the order process but it was going to cost 35 bucks to ship it. I think I will save this link for special occasions. I have tried to have Karl Strauss ship their beer out here before, and they wouldn't, so it is awesome to have all our favorite SD beers on this list. No Karl Strauss amber, though, but we like the Red Trolley ale. My basket also had Stone Levitation and Ballast Point Pale. They sell the IPA out here, but my bf likes the pale. I will definitely keep this site bookmarked.
  19. You definitely need to hit up Stone in Escondido. The brewery/restaurant out there is INSANE. I think their hotel is open now, too. Karl Strauss has some good beers- their amber is my boyfriend's favorite. More of a restaurant than a brewery, but they brew there. We used to go to the one in Carlsbad all the time, but there's one further south. Green Flash brewery is out there, too. AND.... Alesmith brewery is near Miramar. My favorite beer (of all beers, not just Alesmith beer) is probably Alesmith's Nautical Nut Brown. I wish I could buy it out here.
  20. That sounds good- I will try it tonight. Trader Joe's has a couple of bottles that you can buy in singles, so it only cost me a buck 25. Great way to try beers out without buying a whole 6-pack. ---------- Post added June-22nd-2012 at 10:51 AM ---------- ps anybody going to the nova brewfest tomorrow? (or sunday)?
  21. Yesterday, while at Trader Joes, I picked up two beers to try: and Have not tried them yet, and haven't been in the mood for fruity beers for a while. I love brown ales, they are my number one favorite. But maybe since it is summer I want something a little less heavy, and these looked good. I love a good blueberry beer- one of my favorites is Sea Dog brewery's blueberry beer. FYI, this blueberry beer is NOT good, it is disgustingly sweet (and I like sweeter, maltier beers):
