Vile Racism Forces Fox News To Close Comments On Malia Obama Article

Can't even have a benign article about a girl going to college. Nothing's changed.

Harmless Article On College Choice Of President’s Daughter Shows Racism Going Strong

President Obama’s oldest daughter Malia has decided to attend Harvard but will take a gap year before beginning her college education. While the college announcement of a president’s daughter is not life-or-death news, it has been deemed as newsworthy by the media and will receive a short story on most sites. Fox News mirrored the brief AP story on their site and you would think it wouldn’t receive a ton of attention from the Obama-hating racist trolls. And you would be horribly wrong.

If you take a look at the Fox News post, you might notice there is no comment section at the bottom of the article. The reason: they had to take down the avalanche of racism that ensued below the harmless story.

Louis CK was on the Tonight Show Night last night, and he mentioned that he has sworn off the Internet for the last month.  Cold turkey, for his mental and emotional health.  He's reading books.  He's actually talking to real people.  He's oblivious to all the vitriolic bull**** that we otherwise become numb to.

I'm getting close to joining him.

Noticing a number of news sites doing this.

Comment sections really aren't needed. Just give them the share option. If they want to put it on their FB or Twitter with their comments. Let them own it from that point. It will drive more people back to the original article anyway.

Unrelated. There is this comedian who does a parody super conservative American housewife. Betty Bowers. I read how some kid at Robert Morris started going at her. So, she put him on blast and tagged his school. They got on it pretty quickly. Apologized. His profile disappeared.

Reminded me the day after Obama was re-elected. Anonymous started shared the most racist and threatening posts by people with their employers.

.@BettyBowers Those opinions do not reflect those of the university and we do not condone his actions. We are sorry you had to endure that.

@RMU My goal was to get him to realize you can’t go around saying things like that, not ruin his year. We all make mistakes; even the young.

This site is really the extent of my social media adventures. The internet overall is just not a healthy place to try and interact with people.

I am not entirely sure why comments sections are still a thing on online articles and publications.

In many cases, appealing to lowest common denominators, or simply advocating for low-bar standards even when standards are thought to matter, are marketing realities when evaluating what drives more page visits. Plus there is the culturally-valued matter (that site-owners also like) of allowing readers to comment for feedback/engagement.

The internet is obviously the greatest haven to date for those of such development that normally they'd be much more isolated/restricted/ostracized for being "themselves" --the degree/nature of which will be related to the degree/nature of "manifestation"---in their local 3D reality,

On the net it's a numbers + anonymity game.

Such folk can tap into a much larger population and thus find companionship among like-minded no matter how "whatever" they may be, and don't suffer the potential consequences of what happens when they say what they would like to say in public settings irl where people can, are much more likely to, and do hold them accountable.

This doesn't sound so bad. The internet brings out the worst unfiltered crap that would get you punched in the face if said in real life.

Curious who feels the same about conservative talk radio. And if not why not?

Actually, conservative talk radio does filter what it says.  It blows the dog whistles knowing that it will trigger the emotional reactions it wants to happen.

The unfiltered emotional reactions of the talk radio listeners are then posted online, anonymously.

I've stopped reading all op-ed articles, letters to the editor in the Sunday paper & online, and have stayed away from all forms of TV where people shout back & forth at each other whether it sports, politics, or a weather report. I'm tired of hearing everybody's opinion and all of the hate being spewed in all directions. The pres campaign is tiresome, the media is out of control on all sides, and the people - crap the people are ****ing nuts on all sides.

I used to like sports as a place to discuss your team vs. my team & why my team is better. But even those conversations have turned into a hate spewed shouting match. And I find myself to blame at times by letting myself get dragged down to a level I know better not to visit.

This is not the worst I've seen, but with the constant access to information I find it hard to escape from it.

Where have you gone Joe DiMaggio our nation turns it's lonely eyes to you...
