Presidential Election 2020 - ManChild vs Adult

We've seen it before. In Germany, around 1932. I wish I was joking but I only partially am.
  3. "Probably?" Bezos is worth 100 times more than Trump and is the richest man in the world. It is true, however, that it makes no sense for Amazon and other online retailers to pay no sales tax. It is a huge and unfair market distortion that penalizes brick and mortar stores for no good reason, and is easily fixed.
  4. No, Rubio is 100% neocon, and always has been. He legit loves Bolton (and Cheney, and Rumsfeld, and Wolfowitz, and Kristol, and all the rest that got us into the Iraq debacle).

    What do you Believe??? (Religion)

I do not doubt the sincerity of anyone's beliefs, but I strongly suspect that if the same people who firmly and sincerely believe in Christianity had been born in rural India rather than the USA, they would just as firmly and sincerely believe in Hinduism (or Islam). In my view, if God exists, he will treat those people exactly the same as Christians when the time comes to judge their worth. If salvation can only come to those who were raised in the correct faith, the system is fundamentally unfair - and fundamental unfairness is the anthesis of the alleged perfection of God. In my view, if you are going to go monothestic and be fair to everyone in the world, you gotta end up with something like Bahai. I also have specific difficulty with the "Old Testament vs New Testament" God argument put forth by Evangelical Christians. If God is eternal, all knowing and perfect, then there is no way he could ever have let himself be the raging jerk of the Old Testament. The Old Testament must be allegorical, because there is no other way to reconcile the behavior of that angry jealous murderous old "god" with the attributes of the One God as discussed by Jesus Christ. Yes, I know that there are Christian apologetics who try to reconcile that problem away, but their arguments are entirely self-referential. In other words, these arguments are only going to satisfy you if you desperately want them to be true. Like several other people, I want to emphasize that I am not trying to make anyone else lose their faith. I am just explaining some of the thought processes that led me to lose mine. Frankly, it's God's fault - he made me as a rational being that feels the need to try and reconcile all this stuff.
  6. Bullcrap. Its a huge threat. You don't have to win to steamroll people and threaten to bankrupt them with legal fees. Trump has been doing that crap since he was 30 years old and had Roy Cohn do it for him.

    What do you Believe??? (Religion)

Raised catholic. Agnostic now. I'm pretty sure that the details of all the the various religions are wrong (especially the ones that claim that their interpretation of their own writings somehow proves that their religion provides the EXCLUSIVE way to salvation), but there may be something greater out there that is beyond our comprehension and may have created this universe and may have a plan for us that we don't understand. I just don't know and I don't expect to know in this life and I'm pretty sure that no one else can tell me, either.
  8. Nowhere has the Overton window applied so directly as in legal appointments. Ever since W open politicized the judicial appointment process, the GOP only puts up extreme conservatives, directly vetted by the Federalist Society. The Democrats only put up moderates, because the GOP blocks anyone with any possible connection to the left. The GOP is organized and it never gives in. The result is a massive overall move to the right - and the ideological conservatives are much younger.
  9. Depends if the GOP pays the political price for having done all this. If they are able to wash their hands of Trump too easily, they will keep on trucking with the same old Fox/Rush/Breitbart/culture wars/immigrant bashing/veiled racism/Federalist Society/dishonesty/extreme partisanship stuff that has worked so well for them for the past 20 years. If they get trounced in a couple of elections, they might have pull back toward decency in order to return to relevancy. Unfortunately, I'm not counting on that happening. They are too good at what they do in terms of driving the news cycle and getting out the base to vote, and they are WAY too good at dodging the blame for everything they have done in the past. We are already quite far down that road, unfortunately.
  10. Ummm... Slander? Libel? Assuming of course that her story of the affair was false (as Cohen has repeatedly stated). Yes, but I think it was a referencs to Daisy Suckley, who was a far-distant cousin of FDR (and he probably did not have an affair with her anyway).
  11. I agree with your general point, but the FDR anecdotes are not accurate. FDR did have an affair with Lucy Mercer and likely several others, but not with any first cousins, and he died in a living room with several other people around him.

    ***2018-19 NBA Playoffs Thread***

Harden. Anyone who votes for anyone else should be deported to St. Helena Island.
  13. Well, that was almost inevitable, given [some] of the people attracted to crypto-currency and [some of] the reasons they are attracted to it.
  14. Well, he is a filthy muzzie, isn't he? He just pretended to be a loyal Republican for all those years.

Election 2018 Thread (An Adult Finally Has the Gavel)

I know. Real principled conservatives are rare indeed. Modern GOP conservatives who are motivated only by spite and resentment are incredibly common. Nah, she just screwed up. If you need 1500 singatures, you need to gather 2500 to be safe. Irregularities always happen.
  16. Everyone Trump surrounds himself with is a shallow, meanspirited POS. It's a prerequisite for the job.
  17. I'm giving you a choice: either put on these sunglasses or start eating that trashcan!
  18. Rick Wilson is jumping the gun. "Some of the accusations" is going to turn out to mean that she accuses him of intimidating her, etc. after his election. Not that he was still buying goodies from her.
