Are we worried about Atlanta?

No.

Our potential future head coaches will be be coaching in the SuperBowl. Lions cs Ravens.

Atlanta is interviewing coaches left and right because while the owner probably wants BB, the front office doesn’t. They hope the owner becomes enamored with one of the candidates they are interviewing besides BB.  If BB gets hired , likely the front office gets dismissed or neutered so they have no power.

No worry about Atlanta being a threat. The only real better option than us is San Diego since they have a qb in their prime and that looks to be Harbaugh.  Only Tepper’s money would deny us out top choice.

Hopefully, land Weaver as our new DC but with MacDonald probably leaving Weaver takes over as Raven's DC.

Keim isn't super specific but the vibe I continue to get from him is Ben Johnson is the favorite but don't rule out Quinn or Raheem Morris.

You just don't want to jinx it, SIP.  LOL

In some of Benjamin Albrights mentions on with Big Doug, he said McDonald may not leave.  I remember when John Harbaugh traveled to see Michigan play Washington, McDonald flew with him.  They're buds.

If that's the case, Weaver could be available for a DC role if he wants to leave.  I know he has roots with Ravens (player there) and said he loves the team.

I don't but Keim is falt out saying Johnson is someone they are interested but isn't slam dunk.

With our #2 and money for FA, Adam Peters as GM and Harris and Co., how can Atlanta compete?

I thought about that, HigSkin.  MacDonald could get a few SB rings and make more money if he sits and waits.  It'd be outstanding if we could land Weaver as our DC!  I have MacDonald as #1 but would gladly take Johnson, my #2 and Weaver as DC!  Happy Man:  Al Pacino driving that Ferrari!  LOL

This may be a stupid question but I've asked/said stupider stuff in here before:

Do you think our current facilities play a factor in if coaches come here. Obviously it hurts our free agent chances (maybe), but would a coach be concerned about attracting free agents or bringing some of their favorite current players along for transition's sake? Our practice facilities suck... our executive office spaces suck... our stadium SUCKS!  Do you see these as possible issues that a coach candidate mentions?

Slowik could very plausibly end up in Dallas next year if they let McCarthy go. Would not like to see that. Ugh

I'd be good with it.  I go back and forth as to Slowik or Mcdonald as my #2.  But if we weren't about to draft a young QB, Slowik would be further down my list.   Among our candidates he's the one i have the most questions about how much of a leader of men he is.  And he comes off from what i hear on the quiet side so not sure how much he'd stand up to Jerry.

As for Atlanta.  Better roster.  Much nicer stadium.

Because the Lions are in the NFC championship game, Johnson can’t be interviewed in person until next week, so the process with him is on pause for now. (Fine. Fill the void by talking to Quinn.)

There’s so much appealing about Johnson, whose Lions ranked third in the NFL in yards per game and yards per play and fifth in scoring. Yes, what Peters said about leadership has to be correct. Johnson has to be able to demonstrate to Harris and Peters that he could create an environment in which he enabled and inspired everyone in the locker room and on his coaching staff to get the best out of their abilities. Maybe he flunks that part of the exam. If so, look elsewhere.

But if that box is checked, then how is he not the hire? In three seasons with Johnson — the first when Johnson was the Lions’ passing game coordinator, the last two when he was the coordinator — Detroit quarterback Jared Goff upped his completion percentage, increased his touchdown throws and cut down on his interceptions compared with his time with the Rams. That’s real growth, and the Lions are playing for a spot in the Super Bowl because of it.

When was the last time this franchise had a coach lined up with the quarterback he wanted? Joe Gibbs, who drafted Jason Campbell? Maybe. Jim Zorn, bless his heart, then inherited Campbell. Mike Shanahan had Donovan McNabb foisted on him by owner Daniel Snyder, then watched Snyder trade up to take Robert Griffin III. Jay Gruden swiftly grew frustrated with Griffin and turned to Kirk Cousins. Yeah, that pairing produced statistically successful seasons, but the franchise never committed to Cousins for the future, and in the draft heading into his final season Gruden was being told he had to take Dwayne Haskins.

Rivera inherited the late Haskins for his first season, but because of the pandemic he had no chance to evaluate him in the offseason. He subsequently turned to Alex Smith, then to Ryan Fitzpatrick, then to Taylor Heinicke, then to Carson Wentz, then back to Heinicke, then to Sam Howell.

That’s quite a record. Time to purge it all.

Peters has already outlined the idea of having an aligned vision throughout the organization. In this case, that has to extend from owner to GM to head coach — to quarterback. Dan Quinn, Raheem Morris, Mike Macdonald. Fine football coaches, all. But not for this team at this time. The new head coach should outline a new offensive vision and be responsible for helping select and develop the team’s first true franchise quarterback since … since forever.

I like Glenn too but I think Weaver has the upside due to his resume, and I suspect some sort of cronyism if we hire Glenn after Johnson.

We cannot hire Glenn if we hire Johnson, he’s already a DC and playcaller. Lions aren’t just going to let him go if he doesn’t earn a HC job.

I just want to point out, for accuracy:

1. Haskins

2. Kyle Allen

3. Alex Smith

4. Haskins

5. Alex Smith

6. Taylor Heinicke (thus ends 2000)

7. Ryan Fitzpatrick

8. Taylor Heinicke

9. Garrett Gilbert

10. Taylor Heinicke (thus ends 2001)

11. Carson Wentz

12. Taylor Heinicke

13. Carson Wentz

14. Sam Howell (thus ends 2002)

15. ** Honorable mention, Jacoby Brissett, which Ron TRIED to go to but couldn't because he got hurt during the week in practice.

I might not have ALL of that right, but if you're going to bring the funk and the noise with our putrid QB situation, you can't leave out Kyle Allen and Garrett Gilbert and you can't leave out the back and forth in every season.

We're supposed to sign Johnson so why are we interviewing him ?

More importantly, Fraley is a former NFL Center and has been coaching OL. The Center position is incredibly important and having an expert coordinating Johnson's run-heavy offense could do wonders. A potentially "super smart" pick at the OC spot.

Most importantly, Johnson and he already collaborate every single day so Johnson knows what sort of mind he’d be bringing with him as he continues to develop his offensive scheme over the years. Especially given how important marrying the run and pass are in Johnson’s offense.

And if we’re successful, and this guy is like a second brain for Johnson, he might not get stolen as he won’t be calling the plays.

Could be the perfect setup.

Agree.  Johnson has personal experience coaching QB/WR/TE’s and Fraley is the OL specialist.  He is Johnson’s most important staff member.
