We understand that Peters missed on Lance however, he has put together one of the best rosters since 2017.

I believe what is missing from the argument is Kyle Shanahan has been there every year. Also again they got Trent Williams and CMC for peanuts. Ron Rivera would make the 49ers a 8-9 team quick.

None of us were in the room when any of these decisions were made. Please list someone whom you think would be better. We'll go through his record and see if he had any misses.

I just looked through Cunningham Eagles drafts. Of course some misses like Jaelon Raegor but some big hits as well. Left Tackle in the 7th round, Josh Sweat in the 4th round.

You're not helping your case.

8 to 9 wins for rivera means that roster is stacked like a porn star

It does seem odd that they have BOTH blown off their other interviews. You surely wouldn't do that if there was only one opening?

When asked about that in the comments, Finlay linked to an article from last January. So he may have been referring to last hiring cycle, they both turned down interviews/offers. There may be no evidence that it has happened (yet) this time around.

They were good before they got Trent & CMC. Did you forget that they went to the SB in 2020? Kyle is a great coach but Peters has help build both sides just to name a few Kittle in the 5th, Dre Greenlaw in the 3rd, Fred Warner in the 5th, and Deebo in the 2nd.

What about Trey Lance? It was known Kyle did not want Trey Lance but the scouting department overruled him.

@OtisDriftwood25 I'm gonna call your attention to this again because you asserted something pretty significant and when asked about it, you didn't respond at all and I haven't found anything to support it.

Do you have anything to support the assertion that Shanahan was overruled by the scouting department (or Peters in particular) and forced to draft Lance?

I want to be clear I am not against Adam Peters. I have concerns for a couple reasons stated earlier. I do not think he’s a bad candidate and will completely back him if hired. I believe Kyle is the straw that stirs the drink there. He has had 3 unbelievable defensive coordinators with him. Saleh, Ryans, and Wilks. Great coaching builds great players. That’s what Joe Gibbs did.

They are actually making up for it

Exactly. All of them will have hit's and misses. Even Howie Roseman has had some stinkers. Danny Watkins, Jalen Reagor, Marcus Smith.

For me, I also like to look beyond the draft and see if they brought in free agents who contribute. We haven't done that here in a long time.

ravens didnt hit on a receiver till this year lol

Part of that might have been the idiot run on every down OC Greg Roman.  There might have been a receiver or two who could have played in that group.

Roman is the mirror image of EB. Instead of throwing on every down, you run on every down.  People suggested he'd be a good fit here last year and I never understood why.  He had a great running offense that didn't win games with a good defense and Lamar Jackson at QB.  That's the peak of possibility for an OC.  And they still didn't do well enough, fired him, and now look where they are.

Very true, that's why we need to get the right coaches who work well with the talent evaluators.

That's what the good teams do.

The 49ers missing on Lance is a good lesson as to why you don't draft a QB to necessarily be the savior of your team.  Now if they happen to develop into that by the end of their rookie contract, that's great, but the odds are that the QB you draft is going to end up somewhere in the Top 10-15 QB's in the league, but I think to get that Top 3-5 caliber QB there is a lot of luck involved.  The silver lining is that the 49ers front office traded Lance away and turned the page on the entire situation as soon as they knew Lance wasn't going to be the guy.  They didn't allow it to fester and become a bigger situation any longer than it needed to be.

Also when it comes to grabbing a HC that is more offensive vs defensive minded, I think the reason I lean more towards offense (something I flipped my POV on to be honest) is because the NFL is no longer a neutral playing field, it hasn't been for at least over a decade now.  Almost every tweak and rule change to the game is to benefit offense and hopefully get more points on the board.  Building a great defense is a much bigger uphill battle these days, especially one that can be consistent over multiple seasons.

I remember at the time some people in the know continued to mention Kyle wanted Mac Jones because he was more like Kirk. Obviously Kyle is not going to come out and say that because he has to back the front office. I don’t have sources or anything just normal draft talk leading up.

What makes Ian Cunningham so attractive? The Bears roster doesn't seem like it's anything special.

Reminds me of the aspects of the NFL that are so lazy. Is he considered a genius because they made a great trade with Carolina? The trade for Sweat was beyond idiotic. So that while not nixing the value of the Carolina trade, certainly hurt it a bit. I can understand the Niners. I don't get the bears at all. They've been total --- for years. 1 nice trade, beyond that, ---.

It’s for his work with the Eagles in Ravens. He was Ozzie Newsome number one area scout.

I'm missing something.  There are 32 teams, Grant lists 15 offense, 8 defense, and 1 ST.  That's 24.  I think.  I'm pretty sure that's 24. What happened to the other 8?

I think that you got that half right but from what I remember is that Kyle did really like Mac and he was the reason why the niners traded up but when the niner contingent to Trey's pro day they all fell in love with Trey Lance.

Maybe that weren't fired?? 8 were fired leaving 24... so his numbers correlate to hiring an offensive mind somehow???🤷‍♂️

It is funny the inverse relationship between someone's reputation and their proximity to this team amongst some of our own.  Pavlovian response that says great they're almost here, now let's figure out how they actually suck really bad.

Gonna take a while to purge that proclivity I guess.

While everybody is mentioning Trey Lance what was Bobby Beathard doing drafting Ryan Leaf?  Even the best are fallible.  Peters would be quite a coup but there are no guarantees.
