Overview
Center prospect with enough athleticism and strength to be considered scheme independent. Early impressions could leave evaluators unimpressed with his lack of control at times; however, his process and results should quickly grow on them. Stromberg generates decent movement at the point of attack and is well-schooled with landmarks as a zone blocker. His waist-bending causes inconsistencies with his mirror and recoveries in protection. He has an innate feel for angles and positioning that leads to some unexpected block wins. Stromberg has a chance to become a starting center with the flexibility to play guard if needed.
Strengths
  • Makes calls up front with great awareness.
  • Plays with early leverage and leg drive moving forward.
  • Hits lateral landmarks taking opponent diagonally.
  • Gritty to fight through contact imbalance and continue sustaining.
  • Consistent timing working up to linebackers.
  • Instincts to find additional work that helps spring runs.
  • Keeps head on a swivel in search of rushers from either gap.
  • Athleticism to flip feet and redirect to back-side rusher.
Weaknesses
  • Doesn’t carry the build teams desire at center.
  • Play can get too straight-legged during block engagement.
  • Body control will get away from him at times.
  • Uses outside hands to corral instead of using his punch.
  • Bends at the waist and reaches to redirect rushers.
  • Needs to keep feet sliding to cut off his gaps.

Athleticism, check.

Height, check. (for a Howell sized QB)

Length, check.

Measurable boxes have been checked.

So here's a fun situation we've got brewing. Current cap room:

Cap room if we cut Fuller and June 1 cut Roullier:

That's sizeable. So, we've got Forbes and BSJ at outside CB's, we've got Martin at Nickel. We've got Gates/Larsen/Stromberg at C, with Gates/Paul at LG. I know I have Gates here twice, but that's the benefit of position flex.

We've got cap room, Curl extension? Sweat extension? High priority FA? Everything is on the table for 2024. If Howell is THE GUY...well then. You see the options the cap room gives us.

Finally some young talent infused into the OL. My guess is we cut Roullier sometime after the draft and Stromberg slides in to start at C. Gates becomes either the LG or backup interior swingman.

gates is the starting center in ‘23 unless this kid beats him in camp (highly unlikely imo)

Leno, Paul, Gates, Cosmi, Wylie.

this seems like the best way forward for this upcoming season.

As long as we play Gates more at G and release Chase R I love this pic.

Can't rely on Larson to stay healthy and we will need several guys to platoon C after the events of last season.

At some point he will get on the field and contribute this year, and since he can also play G, I can see him getting in a lot of special teams work if he is not C1.

Plus he makes calls up front. In the future we might need that if Howell struggles at it.

No?

draftniks on ABC called him a plug and play starter and he's started 44 college games including 11 as a true freshman.  He could beat out Gates

Didn’t realise he’d played Guard too. Mayhew and Rivera both keen to stress that point.

Yes, he also brings that attitude and grit EB was looking to infuse.....plus is a smart, technical and team leader!

Great pick. Center is a strength now, compared to last year. Chase, Gates, Larson, Strom. Center is so damn important for our offense.

Interior OL will be a critical spot for us for the next 5+ years given what the eagles are doing in this draft.

Welcome to the team Ricky, looking forward to seeing what you can do.

Does anyone know why the RAS score on his height is yellow and not green? I always thought that 6'3" was the perfect height for a center. For guards it's 6'4, and tackles 6"5".

Is it possible that I'm still living in the 1980's 🤷‍♀️.
