Yup.  The government.

They probably tell themselves they're "fighting the system from the inside" or some such nonsense.

Yup.  The government.

What better place to take down an organization than from the inside?

Judge signals she could delay key dates in Trump’s classified documents trial

The federal judge presiding in Donald Trump’s criminal case related to his retention of national security documents at Mar-a-Lago appeared inclined to delay the scheduling of the trial, expressing concern that the timetable would clash with Trump’s 2020 election subversion trial in Washington.

The US district judge Aileen Cannon did not specify what changes she would make to the pre-trial timetable at a hearing on Wednesday, but signaled she would make adjustments to certain deadlines – which could have the net effect of pushing back the start of the trial.

Trump has made it no secret that his overarching legal strategy in his criminal cases is to seek delay, ideally beyond the 2024 election in November, in the hopes that winning re-election could enable him to potentially pardon himself or direct his attorney general to drop the charges.

The prosecutors in the office of special counsel Jack Smith explicitly complained to the judge that Trump’s requests to postpone some deadlines because of complications with the discovery process under the Classified Information Procedures Act amounted to a request to delay the trial.

But the judge concluded the hearing by saying she would enter an order as soon as possible outlining “reasonable adjustments” to the timetable after repeatedly mentioning that she believed the delays in turning over the classified discovery to Trump’s team would cause the cases to clash.

“I’m having a hard time seeing how this work can be accomplished in this compressed period of time,” Cannon said.

The judge’s observation came in response to Trump’s lead lawyer, Todd Blanche, arguing that the current pre-trial timetable in the classified documents case was unworkable as a result of the delays with the classified discovery and the multiple trials scheduled for next year.

Trump may have Cannon on his side, but the evidence is against him.  He will eventually be convicted in this case.  Cannon can delay all she wants but it won't save him.

just adding, not disputing:

to be fair, once you get to work in or closely with government, you get to see how poorly and stupidly it operates and how much time/money/opportunity is just wasted.

for those that pay attention government can help foster the belief that it’s broken and wasteful

Cannon will keep doing the "death by 1000 cuts" spiel and use it to push the dates back more and more, probably until the trial is not scheduled until after the election. Then if Trump wins he'll immediately pardon himself. Hopefully it won't matter because the other trials have already concluded and he'll already be a convicted felon.

Trump pushing hard with his delay tactics:

Trump asks Judge Chutkan to pause 'all proceedings' in D.C. elections case

Donald Trump on Wednesday evening asked Judge Chutkan to stay "all proceedings" in a case alleging he attempted to subvert the 2020 election after losing to President Joe Biden.

Trump, who has argued in court that his is totally immune from the suit because he was president at the time, doubled down on the key defense just last week. Trump's legal team at the time was responding to special counsel Jack Smith's filing, which said that Trump is "not above the law."

In that filing, the prosecutor dismantled the former president's argument that he is absolutely immune from prosecution due to his former office.

Now, Trump is asking for a complete stay until his motion on immunity is formally resolved.

"President Donald J. Trump respectfully requests that this Court stay all proceedings in this case until the issues raised in his Motion to Dismiss the Indictment Based on Presidential Immunity, Doc. 74, are fully resolved," the filing states. "Here, President Trump has moved to dismiss based on his absolute immunity from criminal prosecution for acts within the outer perimeter of his Presidential responsibilities."

The new filing says:

"The prosecution has submitted its response, Doc. 109, and President Trump has replied, Doc. 122. The Court has not set oral argument. The Immunity Motion is therefore fully briefed and ripe for determination; however, the Court has not indicated when it intends to issue an order."

The Trump filing says the case should be stayed so Trump isn't forced to defend a suit from which he may be immune.

1. He's no longer president and addressing him as such is improper. He's Mr. Trump.

2. Fomenting an insurrection is not part of a president's official duties, so no immunity.

3. Judge Chutkan should not stay the trial.

Jury selection in Trump’s D.C. criminal trial set to start Feb. 9

A federal judge has scheduled jury selection to begin Feb. 9 in former president Donald Trump’s Washington, D.C., trial on charges of seeking to subvert the results of the 2020 election.

U.S. District Judge Tanya S. Chutkan set the date for hundreds of District residents to be summoned to the federal courthouse to complete a written questionnaire about the case.

The historic trial for the country’s 45th president — who is also a leading candidate for the GOP presidential nomination in 2024 — is set to begin March 4, after in-person questioning by prosecutors, Trump’s defense attorneys and the judge.

Trump is seeking to postpone the trial, arguing among other things that it raises novel and historic legal questions, such as his claim that former presidents remain “absolutely immune” from criminal prosecution after leaving the White House.

Chutkan announced the February start of jury selection in D.C. on Thursday, in a two-page order that grants requests by special counsel Jack Smith to protect the privacy of prospective jurors. Trump’s defense largely agreed to those requests in an earlier court filing. The safeguards include barring either side from directly communicating with potential jurors, using “nonpublic databases” for juror research, disclosing prospective jurors’ names or identifying information, or providing identifying information to others.

I hope the DC Circuit Court of Appeals slam Trump fast and hard.

Appeals court pauses Trump gag order in federal election interference case

An appeals court Friday ordered an administrative stay of a gag order barring former President Trump from targeting witnesses and the prosecutors in his federal election interference case, temporarily pausing its implementation ahead of further legal battles.

The order from the D.C. Circuit court of appeals also expedites the case.

The decision tees up a similar legal battle already litigated in a lower court, where Judge Tanya Chutkan determined the threats and harassment resulting from Trump’s social media taunts posed danger to the case and his subjects, barring him from speech that would “target” those involved in the case.

Like the appeals court, she agreed to an administrative stay of her order after Trump appealed her decision, ultimately siding with the Justice Department on Sunday that the gag order should remain in place while Trump continues the battle to have her division overturned.

A three-judge panel on the appeals court gave Trump’s team until Tuesday to make their case why Chutkan’s gag order should remain on ice throughout the course of his appeal.

FYI, the DC appeals court will hold a hearing on Nov. 20th.  So much for responding quickly.  It will be interesting to see how much Trump sabotages himself in the interim by posting BS that would violate the gag order if it was still in place.

This means the following will happen:

- Trump's attorneys will miss the deadline

- If they don't miss the deadline, their case they present in their response will be laughable and full of typos and grammatical errors

- After the panel rejects Trump's appeal, Trump will claim the panel is full of "incompetent Trump haters" who are acting on Biden's behalf and deserve to be put to death

I'm just saying, if I had a bunch of henchmen committing crimes for me, I would absolutely take care of them. If they got arrested/indicted/subpoenaed, I would give them a massive hug, an ice cream sundae and tell them I've already got a lawyer for them, thank you for being such a great employee and we're going to take care of this, don't worry. Trumps is an idiot! If he had done that and paid his lawyers, he wouldn't be in this situation.

Problem here you're assuming this from the standpoint that the orange **** is a rational human being. Alas, nothing could be further than the truth.

In fact, I think it's safe to say that he is so far removed from reality in his own vanity that it borderline insanity. One could reasonably argue that the one thing he craves more is his power/greed.

As we know, he truly believes all his followers/cultists should do is show him loyalty and fealty. The other way around, not so much.

And honestly,  that's what should end of taking him down. Loyalty works both ways and it's so clear he missed that part of the lesson. Good news is he's about to get a crash course on how that works real soon.

The humanity of it all.
