Wow- this team sucks so bad. 30 years and counting.

No longer a fan, but knowing the ineptitude of the FO and desire of the prior fanbase to be good, it’s so bad.

The owner on verge of losing the team, the division rival trading picks to get proven stars while the Commies draft second tier players at the same position and mismanaged cap space… such a ****show

at some point you have to honor his need of a lifetime ban

Howell is an awesome value in the 5th.  i was ok with the idea in the 3rd.  I was pining for him in the 4th.   So happy on that front.  I don't have him ranked as high as you but i did have him as my QB 3 and just one spot behind of Corral on my top 100.

But the meltdown from the Heinicke Hive about him likely being bumped down to QB 3 might be wild fun.    And we need you to stoke that meltdown.  :ols:

In the end I think I settled on him as my #2 behind Willis, Corral #3. I had zero interest in Pickett. Stunned he lasted so long.

So it seems like Howell was one of their top QBs and had they not gotten Wentz, they'd have used a 2nd (or maybe even a late 1st after trading down) to get him. As things turned out, they got Wentz and one of their top-graded rookies -- so the discussion of get Wentz or draft a guy becomes moot. They managed both! Great outcome and best part is, they get a year to evaluate both guys before decided how to approach the deeper 2023 draft if need be.

QB draft value is governed by wildly inconsistent swings in supply/demand, much more so than any other position.  Teams usually only draft the position early if they have a job opening.  This year was crazy because of the level of vet player movement at the position, and it basically only five reasonable job openings: New Orleans, Pittsburgh, Seattle, Carolina, and Atlanta.  Seattle and New Orleans decided to punt on this class, which meant that the supply of QBs in the draft was greater than the demand and the bottom fell out on their market.

I think it was a one-off.  I don't think you're going to see a prospect as good as Sam Howell going in the fifth round again for quite a while.  This was the year to pounce on a non first round QB prospect.

Interesting analysis, I’d add that people are drastically overweighting his ‘21 and underrating what he accomplished when surrounded by actual talent. They give Pickett a top 20 grade for playing like hot garbage until his final season and Howell goes 120 some odd picks later for one mediocre season after several superb ones.

I had and still have Howell way above him but draft capital means Pickett will get far more chances than Howell, especially if we go hunting for a new coach in 23.

Comanders for better or worse.

Could at least drafted Brisker. Darn it.

Yeah, we could have easily taken Dotson's teammate, Brisker, and grabbed a DL in the third. Hopefully, Mathis is worth it. At least they were able to find a true FS in Butler, something this team was missing.

I vaguely recall a time when this board was arguing about which QB we should take in the first and how many spots we needed to move up to get him.

Why do you like Brisker?

I watched him twice and came to the conclusion he stinks. Maybe I didn’t watch the right games, though? What does Brisker do that makes passing over him a mistake?

Just watched film on Chris Paul.

Hes definitely developmental. He’s a big body that anchors well and has a good strike.

His kick step is too slow to play NFL tackle and he doesn’t transition well from kick to power step when an inside move hits. He struggles to secure blocks at the second level because of how plodding he is. Guys just rip off and get to the ball carrier.

I think he’s a guy that’s going to need to shed some weight and improve his footwork. Kind of looks like he started that process based on the combine video, where maybe it’s perception, but he looks a lot more in shape than he did on the field.

Improved feet and quickness would help him game substantially. He is probably a guard, but if his feet are faster and he can get out on edge defenders and transition to a power step quicker he could be a swing tackle, too.

People can be triggered by more than a couple of FO moves, choices, and mistakes from the fan perspective, but as of right now, entering year 3, just have to see if they're right.

Saying this, if they don't win this year, there's no more waiting to be done.

RR & Co. seats are warming up!

This franchise is frustrating and disappointed fans have had enough.

They better win...RR is on the clock.

Christian Holmes is a big corner. 6, 200ish. Good hitter. Seems to be okay in man but better in zone. He’s physical. He may be a very real nickel guy. Put him in curl/flat zones in 3 or at times man to man against less shifty slots.

He doesn’t seem to transition real well when he has to flip his hips and it’s mostly due to his feet. But I don’t think he has slow feet in the rest of his film so it seems like that’s a repetition thing.

I am higher on him than I am Butler based off of college film. But Butler is a better athlete and Holmes is a better tackler so I can see different values.

Almost wonder if Holmes could be a SS and Butler a FS and both get a shot at the nickel spot.

To be clear, Holmes didn’t play SS, he played corner. But it seems like his skill set would transition well to strong safety.

Not going to spend too much time on the UDFAs.

Tyrese Robinson looks like a very similar player to Chris Paul. Big. Slow feet. When he locks on his locks on.

Jequez Ezzard is going to have an uphill battle sticking as a receiver but he has good speed. Route variability was minimal. But I think he was brought on to compete as a return man. He’s electric in that phase of the game and he may be able to develop as a receiver.

Kyric McGowan is interesting. He played mostly in the slot. Transferred to Georgia Tech after 4 years at Northwestern. Played some RB at Northwestern as well. 5-8ish, 190ish. Seems to get himself open. Good speed. He's intriguing. If there's an injury there is a chance he can stick.

I had Corral in the top 100 i produced just one spot ahead of Howell but they were to me very close. Pickett was my #4.

Dallas signed Alex Lindstrom and Ty Fryfogle. ****.

Seattle for Bubba Bolden. ****.

From PFN here’s our signees:

I think they avoided the bigger names that hit UDFA because it demanded more money to sign them.

I didn't think much about why Standig loves to keep bringing up whether on the radio or to Rivera directly whether Dan has them on a budget but I think its becoming clear now.

I recall years ago JLC saying the personnel guys don't like coming to this team in part because Washington doesn't pay scouting staffs well unlike most other teams.

We lost assistant coach A. Pleasant who was supposedly beloved here because he thought he was underpaid, the Rams offered him more so he bolted.

On and on.

That's what hitting a home run can do for your whole offseason, and I really think we just hit one.  Maybe we're all wrong and nothing will come of this pick, but the potential and no-hindsight draft day value of that pick was enormous.  I had him at 39 overall on my board.  Getting him where we did was +105 value for my board, that is insane.  I would have been happy and considered it a value pick if we had taken him at 47.

This is way better.  Not only do we get all of that extra draft value out of the choice, the pick was late enough that it's not going to poison the well with Carson Wentz.  He won't have to play looking back over his shoulder, while we got a high upside prospect in our pipeline who you don't care if he sits for two or three years given where he was picked.

Nailed it. Guy was a top 10-15 pick on boards last summer and a poor final season was plenty explicable due to outside factors. I don’t think any of the QBs other than Willis had elements on their CV that clearly made them more attractive prospects than Howell. Doesn’t change the fact that at the end, in a class nobody liked, he was more of a 2nd/3rd talent and so a 35-45% caliber chance guy to me, but to get that where we did is miles better than any day 3 QB I can remember in years and years.

Hansford would have really made me happy. Who TF is gonna play ILB and Buff?

Would you be comfortable with an undrafted rookie free agent coming in and playing the MIKE position arguably the most important position on defense? Cmon…

I know it's been said multiple times but we should be bringing in Justyn Ross. We need a backup big-WR to develop under cam sims. All we brought in was return specialists, which is fine. But we need height.

Have you seen that TE the Commanders drafted?
