No offense (and I say this as a navy brat who didn't serve), but I suspect soldiers, even weekend warrior ones, can and should be able to adapt to their environment. They won't be sleeping at the Marriott when in Fallujuh. I get the we can and should do better part but to me this story should have been a non issue. As always, thank them for their service, but also acknowledge they are soldiers.

Sure. And there’s an element to the outrage that’s just being in on a trending topic.

but.

they wouldn’t need to be there if Capitol police had their **** together.

and yeah deployment to the Middle East is worse. We all get it.

they weren’t deployed to the Middle East though.

Not a huge issue. Still bad optics. Especially right now.

Georgia Lawyer Who Kicked in Pelosi's Door During Riots Denied Release Over Social Media Posts

William McCall Calhoun Jr.—a Georgia lawyer who bragged online about kicking in the office door of Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi during the January 6 insurrection at the Capitol—has been denied release from imprisonment because of his numerous Twitter, Facebook and Parler posts promising to execute Democratic leaders and followers.

Calhoun Jr. allegedly wrote on Facebook that he and the "mob" searched through Pelosi's "inner sanctum." He allegedly wrote, "The first of us who got upstairs kicked in Nancy Pelosi's office door and pushed down the hall towards her inner sanctum, the mob howling with rage. Crazy Nancy probably would have been torn into little pieces but she was nowhere to be seen."

He was arrested on January 15 and charged with entering a restricted building, violent or disorderly conduct and obstructing official proceedings of government, according to an FBI affidavit. His lawyer requested that he be allowed to undergo home confinement and GPS monitoring before his eventual trial, but U.S. Magistrate Judge Charles H. Weigle denied the request, citing his repeated and violent social media posts.

Calhoun Jr.'s posts allegedly spoke of taking "violent retribution against the media and the Democrats" and of his desire to see Black Lives Matter (BLM) protesters "stacked up high" in "body bags."

Lincoln Project Pivots to Targeting 'Sedition Caucus' of Ted Cruz, Josh Hawley

Rick Wilson, the co-founder of the Lincoln Project, a conservative PAC that targeted Donald Trump, has suggested that his group would now shift its focus to other GOP lawmakers who supported the former president's claims of election fraud.

As well as Hawley and Cruz, the ad mentioned senators Rand Paul (R-KY) and Tom Cotton (R-AR) as lawmakers voters should "remember."

Again, WTF:

Judge Jeffrey S Frensley cited Munchel's "apparent and clear respect for law enforcement.”

The judge admitted that this was somewhat “counterintuitive” because of the video evidence showing the defendant allegedly breaking the law but Frenlsey contrasted that evidence with multiple videos showing Munchel being very buddy-buddy with and deferential to police officers.

Texas lawyer fired after Capitol riot files ambitious suit: Dissolve Congress, don't arrest him

Texas attorney Paul Davis, who was fired earlier this month after posting several Instagram videos of himself on the front lines at the Jan. 6 Capitol riots, filed an impressively grandiose lawsuit in federal court on Monday, requesting that Congress disappear entirely and that nearly everyone who holds high office in the United States, along with Mark Zuckerberg, be barred from ever seeking election or voting again. He also asked the court to tell the Justice Department and FBI not to arrest him.

The complaint, filed in the Waco Division of the Western District of Texas by Davis and co-counsel Kellye SoRelle, a failed Republican candidate for state office, claims that every vote cast in the 2020 general election was illegal, and therefore that "entire 117th Congress is illegitimate." Consequently, Davis argues, every action this Congress has taken, including impeaching former President Trump and certifying President Joe Biden's victory, is "null and void."

The 54-page complaint opens by stating plainly that it is "not a 2020 presidential election fraud lawsuit," and doesn't seek to change the declared winner of any elections. (Based on the subsequent arguments, that appears blatantly false.) A footnote on the first page reads: "This is not a Sidney Powell lawsuit. This is not a Rudy Giuliani lawsuit. This is not a Lin Wood lawsuit. This is not a Team Trump lawsuit. This is not a Republican lawsuit. This is not a Democrat lawsuit."

While authorities have charged more than 100 individuals in the riot, details in the new allegations against three U.S. military veterans offer a disturbing look at what they allegedly said to one another before, during and after the attack — statements that indicate a degree of preparation and determination to rush deep into the halls and tunnels of Congress to make “citizens’ arrests” of elected officials.

U.S. authorities charged an apparent leader of the Oath Keepers extremist group, Thomas Edward Caldwell, 66, of Berryville, Va., in the attack, alleging that the Navy veteran helped organize a ring of dozens who coordinated their movements as they “stormed the castle” to disrupt the confirmation of President-elect Joe Biden’s electoral college victory.

“We have about 30-40 of us. We are sticking together and sticking to the plan,” co-defendant Jessica Watkins, 38, an Army veteran, said while the breach was underway, according to court documents.

“You are executing citizen’s arrest. Arrest this assembly, we have probable cause for acts of treason, election fraud,” a man replied, according to audio recordings of communications between Watkins and others during the incursion.

“We are in the main dome right now. We are rocking it. They are throwing grenades, they are fricking shooting people with paint balls. But we are in here,” a woman believed to be Watkins said, according to court documents.

A man then responds, “Get it, Jess,” adding, “This is . . . everything we f---ing trained for!”

The FBI said it recovered the exchange from Zello, a push-to-talk, two-way radio phone app.

FBI charging papers against Caldwell, Watkins and a third person, former U.S. Marine Donovan Crowl, 50, allege that Caldwell and others coordinated in advance to disrupt Congress, scouted for lodging and recruited Oath Keepers members from North Carolina and like-minded groups from the Shenandoah Valley. The group claims thousands of members who assert the right to defy government orders they deem improper. The plotters both anticipated violence and continued to act in concert after the break-in, investigators alleged in court documents. FBI papers also say that Caldwell suggested a similar event at the local level after the attack, saying in a message: “Lets storm the capitol in Ohio. Tell me when!”

Quote

In charging papers, the FBI said that during the Capitol riot, Caldwell received Facebook messages from unspecified senders updating him of the location of lawmakers. When he posted a one-word message, “Inside,” he received exhortations and directions describing tunnels, doors and hallways, the FBI said.

Some messages, according to the FBI, included, “Tom all legislators are down in the Tunnels 3floors down,” and “Go through back house chamber doors facing N left down hallway down steps.” Another message read: “All members are in the tunnels under capital seal them in. Turn on gas,” the FBI added.
