New Stadium News?

For me, the best plan would be building a state of the art Team HQ in Landover on the site of the current stadium where they already own 200 acres.  This way the team doesn’t “abandon” Prince George’s.

The stadium comes home to RFK in the City.

Virginia keeps a connection to the team with training camp held annually there at a site to be determined after the Ashburn land is sold off.

I'd rather keep the HQ in Virginia. That's where a majority of the fans are. Put the stadium in DC though.

Stadium and team facility need to be close.

Why? Ashburn is about 58 miles from Landover. I don't see that as being an issue at all. I think what plays a bigger issue for the HQ is what incentives does the team get from the State their in.

Honestly, I think this has been part of the problem.  The team is too decentralized.

RFK is 9.5 miles from Landover and only 5 miles outside the city proper.  The convenience for the staff and the players would be massively improved.

Harris and Rales both grew up in Maryland. They may or may not have some loyalty to the state in terms of location for a stadium or practice facility.

FedEx as a possible practice location would make a lot of sense. The team already owns land there (I believe) and it's a ton closer to RFK than Ashburn is. The training facility could be a component of whatever Maryland and PG do to redevelop the land there once the stadium is torn down.

edit- LOL I missed the post at the top of this page that suggested exactly that. I'll amend my post to simple say "+1, great idea"

IIRC, the sits on a landfill and Cooke had an agreement in place that the redskins would clear the land for a break on a long term lease and pressure DC into a stadium 40 years later....

Also I don't know if the state put in on it, but this was during the time when owners figured out how to pay for their own stadium's, so things were a little more tricky back then in order to save cash. But I was 7 when Fedex was built so I could be wrong.

I highly doubt Harris owns the land the current stadium is on seeing as we lease the stadium

I believe Snyder owned something like 200 acres that the field and parking lots sits on, and other undeveloped lots, and all of it was included in the sale. Could be wrong though.

That’s a separate property that the team had purchased a few years ago I believe. For a potential training facility or stadium if other options fell through. I don’t believe that plot of land is the FedEx Field land.

How dumb was Cooke by not owning the land he built his stadium on.

He was almost dead at that point. And he wasn't transferring the team to his kids either.

i really like the idea of turning Landover into the HQ. The Cowboys have a nice facility in Frisco like that and it is 91 acres. They'd have enough room to build a state of the art facility along with a team history museum and incorporate restaurants, etc into it.

Th problem is that everyone lives in Nova.  It would be a big ask to move everyone from Nova to PG.

that would suck for the team but then again nobody likes living in nova. At least at fedex they’d have the option of living out on the bay.

Didn't Lavar Arrington live near the bay?

Also, the airports aren't exactly convenient from Landover.

But then they'd have to deal with Maryland drivers everyday.

DCA is 22 mins and BWI is 35 mins away and they get police escorts, so I don't think that's much of an issue.

and even if the employees currently live in the Ashburn area, that's an hour commute to Landover...I don't see that being much of an issue either. People have time to move around if they want to - it's not like the facility would be ready in Landover overnight. This is something 5 years from now at the earliest

If the team had won for the last 25 years maybe it would feel different but the second dumbest thing JKC ever did was rush the stadium deal in Landover.

The first was not leaving the team to his son.

This is where I'm fine with not thinking about the fans and doing what's best for the team.

If they can fit the HQ and Training Facility on the same land as the future RFK site stadium, do it...

Surprise me...build the stadium on top of the practice facility to save space.

I'm in Virginia...if you want to make me happy, start winning...training camp in Richmond was trash. went several times, mud smelled like sewage the first year, thumbs down.

Why would there be any incentives for a football HQ?  What is the benefit to the State?  Is the franchise HQ bringing thousands of workers and tax revenue? I don't think so.

Lavar had a house in Annapolis right before the Bay Bridge that he no longer owns. There's a bit more to that story.. His Mom had a house in Upper Marlboro while he was playing. He now lives outside of LA I believe.
