And then charged with committing a crime? That is the interesting thing about this. Either the Redskins are lying or they committed a crime - one or the other.

Hmmmm.

I'm more talking about the doctors than the team.  The docs are the ones being accused of being negligent with his care.  I tend to doubt they were the ones leaking anything.

Once Trent gave an interview bashing the team for his medical care, he may have open a can of worms that he can't undo.  This request to not cooperate and move on is highly odd and leads one to suspect that the claims made by others (him blowing off follow-up appointments) have some validity to them.  I can't see how that helps his attempt to count this season towards his contract, and coult potentially lead to the team suspending him for conduct detrimental to the team.

Lol, this organization is such a disaster.

Sitting here discussing a player's brain cancer while we're planning on trading him at some point. :ols:

Why didnt he get another opinion? :ols: :ols:

How about it's none of your ****ing business. Why don't some if ya'll detail some of your personal dealings with cancer so we can all comment of your personal medical situations.

It wasn't brain cancer.

Don't publicly whine about the team not diagnosing your cancer if you blew off follow-up visits with a specialist (if that was what happened).

if that's true, then the team failed big time here by leaking about it.

If not, then the team fail big time here by tarnishing his player reputation and trade value.

Turn this story however you want it. I still can't come up with a result where the Redskins win. No matter Trent lies or not. Team is still on the wrong side of the story... Should have been dealt early last offseason, and rumors about him being disgruntled about medical staff should have been a huge red flag for the team and trade him ASAP. But Bruce wanted to be petty about it, and team is once again suffering the PR hit.

Maybe the team wasn't the one who leaked it.  Who knows how many people were told over the last 6 years.

I can certainly get behind its none of our business. To the point the player holds a press conference and blames the team for putting him in a life threatening situation.

If that is true several people at Redskins Park should be immediately fired and the contracts of the medical team cancelled (the doctors involved here would not be team employees but private practice operating under contract to the team).

If Williams is lying - or at least not being totally honest - the team have every right to protect themselves.

As to details of his medical treatment being none of our business - 100%. Which is why the team have been wise to ask for an independent review of what happened.

Well, he's not playing here anymore that's for sure.  Skins badly misjudged his level of discontent and should have tried to get picks from the Texans. Skins OL needs to be completely revamped this offseason.  Morgan Moses is not worth his contract.  Gerod Christianson can't play.  Skins can't afford Scherff on a rebuilding team.  Skins need draft picks.  Again!!!

Agreed.  I would want an investigation if everything he said in that presser were true.  Not only for myself but for my teammates.  Now he looks like a liar because he's defamed the doctors and team and then refused the investigation.

I am hoping Trent is dealt early in the off season.  Among others here, I desperately wanted to deal him before the trade deadline.   The battle of who did the other wrong isn't i think going to be a fun ride.  And it's never been the issue in the mix that I cared much about.  Granted I get its the crux of the real dispute but to me I look at this as pure business, trade him, he's going to be 32 next year and then reset at the position.  But alas we are here....

Reporters like Finlay, Keim, etc warned that if they don't deal Trent and he returns it could end up messy in that locker room.  And I gather that's playing out now.

I doubt (judging by what Finlay among others have said) the players will side with the doctors over Trent regardless of how this unfolds.  The idea that doctors for teams in just about every sport don't look after the player's interest first is a mantra i've noticed that goes beyond just the Redskins.    True or not who knows.  But the story isn't unique to the Redskins. To me this is a lose, lose game for both sides.

I got doubts that Trent is just making things up for no reason -- he'd have to be a consummate liar and a bad/malicious dude for that to be the case.  And that's not how Trent has been described over the years.  He's been a captain and leader.  So if he's a bad dude what does that say about the rest of the players especially considering according to those who covered the recent Q & A with Trent -- there was a horde of players in the background encouraging Trent and kept saying preach.

Is it possible Trent mis-remebered some things?  Sure.   And there are two sides to every story.  But to me this all could have been avoided.  I get Trent could have spilled on this once he was traded.  But I don't love the backdrop of players in the background encouraging Trent -- it doesn't feel like a kumbaya moment for team unity and harmony.  But they chose to play this out and they've earned IMO any tension that arises from it. :(

That's at least an employee, or an ex employee... Still on the team. Or do you mean Trent's medical files got hacked from Redskins server or whatever like the Watergate? That's on the team too.

SIP clearly summed this story well. It became a mess the second Trent reported to the team. And that happened because Bruce was petty not trading him...

Maybe someone like DHall or another friend who also knows Casserly divulged that he blew off referrals.  We may never know where he got that invormation.

Clearly, Trent wants this all swept away and to move to another team, but I don't think the Redskins are going to allow him to smear them further, nor give up on a year of trade value without a fight.  If he thought his claims would be 100% supported by the facts, he would not try to block the investigation.

Are there any in this forum that don't think that Bruce Allen is an incompetent fool?  There seem to be a couple, but they may just be playing devils advocate.

It’s become cliche at this point to file that disclaimer to any post that goes against the idea.

I do believe it’s inherent with a lot of fans to hold grudges against players who go to war with the team.  It seems as if fans take it personal when people make their team look more ridiculous than it already is.  A part of me wonders though if it’s not tinged in jealousy that the player can leave but we’re stuck here.

That’s not to say Trent’s not lying or embellishing his scenario with the team, but those who jump right to this being a big, elaborate scheme ingrained in greed, really come off bitter whether they admit it or not.  When six months pass with no grievance filed by Trent, it’s pretty easy to say that at minimum- he’s got no legal leg to stand on.  But by no means does that mean that the medical staff couldn’t have done better, that it couldn’t have been better handled or managed by the FO, or that Trents situation wasn’t very real and traumatizing to him.

This is a result of poor management and poor PR though, not some situation that just appeared out of thin air blind-siding everyone.

Williams should not be in a position to say anything. Period. If he was on a different team or simply released by now he probably wouldn't have gone public like that. And even if he did, it would be an ex-player bashing his former team, which isn't really much of a story beyond Redskins' nation. His public statement would more be like, "Im ready to move on and win football games for the _________"

But look at this situation as it is now, Skins have done nothing but lower his trade value.

No matter what had been done with Trent he was gonna talk. Trading him wouldn't have kept this from becoming drama for the Redskins. When an elite player claims his old team almost lead to his death due to their neglectful actions or non-actions, there is no way in hell the media is gonna say "Oh, well, he's on another team now so not that big a deal." That claim by Trent trumps every single thing that either side has done or could have done. That is one massive proclamation to make about any organization or medical staff. Nothing else in this entire fiasco comes close. And the Skins would have still responded the way have now--by requesting a 3rd party conduct an investigation.

And if Trent is willing to speak up while still on the team, how willing do you think he would be if he were with the Titans or Texans? Does anyone think nobody in the press would ask him to elaborate on why he held out and what were the medical issues he was having a problem with? Especially if word got out that he had soreness from trying on his helmet--everyone already knew he had surgery on his scalp to remove a cancerous mass. The helmet soreness issue alone would have propelled a ton of questions for both Trent and the Redskins, and if Trent has been feeling that his reputation was taking a hit while he remained silent with the team, imagine how he would feel once he determines he has more freedom to talk? There have been ex-players who have spoken out about the team over things that were far, FAR more insignificant.

And by the way, where was all the HIPAA law concerns when report after report came out about Alex Smith's infections in his leg? His representative/agent/whoever even asked the public to respect his privacy when it came out...there wasn't balled-up fists by people claiming someone must have broken the law for this to have been known...I mean look at this **** here lol:

"More on #Redskins QB Alex Smith: He’s had several procedures, sources say, and @MikeGarafolo adds they are removing tissue to clear the infection. Smith still approaches this with optimism about playing. Note: His hospital room was next to Colt McCoy’s during McCoy’s 1-night stay"

"#Redskins QB Alex Smith is battling an infection related to the surgery he had on his broken fibula and tibia, sources say. It’s premature to say what this means for his playing future. But it is being handled with care and dealt with seriously by doctors."

"My curiosity about Alex Smith's silence evoked a tip, which prompted some research, which yielded more info, which feels solid. I'm told Smith indeed still in hospital with post-op infection. Will likely require re-intervention, incl possibly "partial reconstruction."

In comparison, Casserly only said Trent skipped his doctor appointments lol...where was all this talk of possible crimes back then?

EDIT: Turns out it was the Redskins who requested everyone respect Smith's privacy in terms of his health lol...oh, the irony.

I said you'd have a story if Trent left too.  Obviously.  But the differences IMO are big.  To use a Netflix analogy.  It makes the series ongoing.  If he left, it likely would be one episode and then done or close enough.  This way we got the series running nonstop until he's gone.

Also,

A.  You wouldn't have the narrative cooking about Trent not digging Bruce (which seems to be based on how the non-trade was handled in his mind)

B.  You wouldn't have the backdrop of Redskins players telling Trent to preach and nodded their head as Trent tells his story in front of the media.

C.  You wouldn't have the backdrop of will Trent play for the Redskins again story and is he using excuses, etc.

This basically makes the movie more interesting and we will keep watching the episodes streamed to us week after week.  Apples to oranges to dealing him.  Just about everyone who covered the team predicted this and suggested the same -- its was not really that hard to foresee.  It still wasn't the #1 reason why I wanted him traded by a long shot.  But its another reason why they should have IMO.

But since they played this hand.  They deserve every ounce of the drama.

I didn't read or see your post when I posted...I only read the one above mine lol...

And I'm firm in the belief that when a player makes as serious an accusation as Trent did, it would in no way be one episode simply because he's on another team. He says what he said while on another team, and the investigation is still going forward, which means the Netflix series has been picked up for another season. If Trent can't play for his new team because of soreness on his head reasulting from something he's blaming on the Redskins, that nugget is gonna keep the drama alive no matter what.

Smart move by Trent and his agent/attorneys not to involve the NFLPA. I wouldn't want DeMaurice Smith handling or managing anything on my behalf. Secondly, you can be sure that more leaks were to follow once Trent's medical records were turned over to the respective physicians for review. I think it's really dirty (but certainly not out of character) for this organization to share Trent's private health information with Charley Casserly. Casserly (and whoever shared that information with him) violated Trent's PHI, so there will be something to answer for on that. Just ask ESPN and Mr. Schefter. The only difference between this and the payout they had to give to Jason Pierre-Paul is that Pierre-Paul's medical info was shared in digital form. Trent's has been verbalized. In both cases, that info has been obtained in violation of existing protections. So the 18-points of light that Califan posted above aren't the most relevant here. Trent's Protected Health Information (PHI) was violated by the team. Bad move, team president......bad move.

Or TW is just a lying ****bag and it's all about the money and playing for a winning team after all........

@Califan007 if traded

A. You wouldn't have Trent in our locker room with every Redskins beat guy to talk to -- you think the Browns reporters for example would hound Trent week after week about his past situation with the Redskins?

B.  You wouldn't have Trent having a physical and possible future interaction with the same medical staff that he has issues with previously.

C.  You wouldn't have his teammates (who interacted with those same physicians) chiming in during real time as Trent explains his position

D.  You wouldn't have the Bruce subplot

E.  you wouldn't have the guaranteed money debate

F.  you wouldn't have the will Trent play for the Redskins plot again week after week -- and the 2 year vested plot that may accompany that.

G.  The how angry is Trent at the Redskins is an ongoing story here -- it wouldn't be that way with another team.

H.  The kicker is all the trade talk that had for months.  We are likely going through that again in the off season

You got many more subplots in play. The drama is more intense now in all likelihood and will extend for a longer time.   And yeah the series is filmed in our backyard as opposed to in Ohio or somewhere else.

I don't see how its debatable that the Trent issue is much bigger in DC than elsewhere.  I am not exactly taking an outlier position.  most who covered the Trent saga has said the same.  If you feel differently about it -- cool to each their own.  ;)

A. True.

B. True.

C. True, although you'd have them chiming in behind the scenes and beat reporters telling us what their sources are claiming they said...or you'd have Moses talking about it during his radio spots or just off the cuff to reporters or mentioning it in their tweets or "liking" some post by Trent that is a jab at the Skins...

D. Would definitely have the Bruce subplot...that's ongoing no matter what. Just a simple "Next question" to any reporter when asked about his feelings towards the front office would keep it alive. And Trent would probably have a national writer do an interview with him for SI or ESPN, and we'd get to read all sorts of stuff to fuel the fire and keep it burning. Hell, we got that with Su'a Cravens lol...nice lengthy article a centered around his time with the Redskins. Think Trent Williams and his near-death cancer scare botched by the Redskins wouldn't garner a lengthy article as well?

E. Who's to say we wouldn't have it with someone else coming up, though? Salary and contract debates are always ongoing, everywhere around the NFL. Plus, not a fan of trading a valuable player in order to not have a debate about salaries.

F. True. It would be replaced with something else, but true.

G. It would if he was unwilling to cooperate with the investigation and the NFLPA still felt the need to show its members that they have their backs by pontificating about the Redskins putting out false narratives against their player.

H. That shouldn't bother anyone...

But again, here is what I was responding to: the idea that trading Trent would have ended all the drama:

"If he was on a different team or simply released by now he probably wouldn't have gone public like that. And even if he did, it would be an ex-player bashing his former team, which isn't really much of a story beyond Redskins' nation. His public statement would more be like, "Im ready to move on and win football games for the _________"

And let me an an "I" to the list lol...does anyone think any player on the Skins' roster will consider holding out anytime in the near future? lol...so we avoid going through this again in a year or two, unless Bruce quits tomorrow and is replaced with Jim Zorn lol...

It's like fans are being forced to turn on one of our most dominant and consistent players. It's sad to read so many Skins fans bash Trent after he was one of the few bright spots on so many bad teams. I get it though. Reject him because he's rejecting "us." Emotion aside, Trent is calling out the same FO and structure that fans also complain about. We KNOW our FO is incompetent and I have seen fans questioning our training staff for years on this forum, because we are usually one of the most injured teams in the league. But somehow, now, Trent is only calling out the team for money? I don't buy that at all. He's human and money does usually help us to get over things, but I believe his complaints about incompetence in the FO and training staff are real. It's consistent with everything else we've seen since he's been here. I think the added variable of asking for guaranteed money is throwing people off though. We will still have an incompetent FO and one of the worst training staffs in the league after this saga is over, and ironically fans will go back to asking for them to be replaced, just like Williams is now.
